Random - better approximates real thing, ie having to change line of thinking for each question.

But if you haven't reviewed some of the material, it doesn't make sense to do random blocks.

Can you guys tell me what kind of analysis QBank does? I suspect that i'll give you representative blocks of 50 questions and for each test, indicate the percent of questions correct, percent of questions correct in individual sections (path, micro, phys...). But does it go beyond this? Does it do analysis across different blocks to see improvement in each section? thanks

yes, you get your analysis of how you did as well as a comparison to all qbankers. it bar graphs your performance on every test as well and compares a bar graph so you can see if you're performance is above, at, or below all testers. it also breaks it down by subject and system so you can focus in on what you're missing which i find the most helpful part of qbank.

it also tells you the number of questions you went from correct to incorrect, incorrect to correct, and incorrect to incorrect (so if you're an answer changer you can see if it works for YOU). this is nice too.

there is a cumulative analysis that keeps track of everything you've done as well also by subject and system.

hope this helps

1) I thought there was a re-set button somewhere on QBank where you could start all over to recalculate your scores. Does anyone know where this is?

2) What is IV QBank, and how have people used it?

Thanks!

Thanks!

There is no such "RESET" feature on qbank. they dont want people selling their subscriptions.

IV-QBank is clinical vignettes, it kinda sucks.. only do it for fun/relaxed studying once youve completed all the qbank Qs

The Qbank server is "down tonight"- can I just say, "oh- okay"- no problem! Really, seriously WTF- it has been down for the last 4 hours and will stay down until tomorrow morning. Absolutely lovely. And I take step I in TEN DAYS. I think it is just splendid that Kaplan will take my money and then give me NOTHING. Grrrreeeaaaatttt.

😕 😡 😡 😡 😡

Yup...they actually have a page that tells you that "Other students are expereincing the same problem" and now I am supposed to feel better since I am not the only one getting screwed!
Not cool 👎

Has anyone gotten to the Behavioral Science Question about how to approach a patient who wants to bang you?

They say that you should tell the patient you can't have a relationship but would still like to be her doctor - and I'm thinking "no effing way!" Doesn't that sort of put a little stress on the relationship if the doctor is thinking "this girl wants me" the whole time he's treating her? I'm thinking - refer her out and offer to take her out someone down the line, not right away. Or just say that you have to maintain a professional relationship and cannot date her and offer a referral if she's uncomfortable seeing you...

I don't know, these behavioral science questions are really subjective....

ethically/morally you're not supposed to turn anyone away. "legally" you can but being physicians we're supposed to treat everyone, that's what the question is getting at.

-J

funny thing, I read in BRS behavioral science somewhere that if you have a relationship with a patient, he/she can file an ethics complaint/malpractice suit... what's the fun in that?

Ok another Behavioral Science question -

The one with the muslim patient whose husband gives the medical hx, and then asks what next -

They say ask the husband to leave, and that asking the wife if she wants her husband to stay is considered "prejudicd" in the explanations - but in their explanation of why it's better to ask the husband to leave, they say the wife may refuse. Isn't it more respectful to directly ask the patient her preference before assuming it's ok and asking the husband to leave? If she's got the right to refuse in the first place, doesn't it just make sense to ask her directly?? Especially since she might not feel empowered enough to disagree with you, the doctor?

Suck it, Trebek !

if you ask the women for her preference, she might be afraid to say "yah please ask him to leave." but if you ask her husband to leave, if she prefers him to stay, she will tell u

The behavioral science questions in the real test seem less ambiguous in general. I think some of the Kaplan behavioral science questions are just poorly worded (especially the "quote" response ones). In the actual tests, the wrong responses seem more obvious...I got quite a lot of behavioral science questions in my test yesterday, so don't neglect this in yours studies!

Took the test yesterday. Don't rely on Qbank for USMLE. It's just not predictive a all!

What if you're using Qbank as a vehicle to review and learn concepts and facts and not so much as an exact replica of what a USMLE question will look like?

I feel like I get the most out of reviewing the answers as a mechanism of studying and worry less about if I'm getting all the questions right - is this naive?

nono, its good to know the material the qbank asks I guess...I just don't think people should be deceived as to its test-taking value.

Fact: You need a good knowledge base.

Its just that a lot of the questions weren't things you could look up, or be able to answer if you had it open book.

Well I've always wanted to be a make up artist. I guess I can move back to Hollywood and try to start that up - seeing as this medicine thing is probably not gonna work out for me. I was a production assistant on a film once. Really low budget film - but the director is doing another movie next year so maybe he'd hire me.
Weather's nice today....
🙁

just started kaplan Qbank. 400 questions in, and my average is only 56%. the other users' average is 61%. by how many percentage points will i need to improve to get into the Step 1 passing range? (and all i want to know is for qbank -- not any other resource such as NBME).

thanks for your help.

have you already reviewed the material before doing questions? If not I would do that first, otherwise you'll be seeing questions for the 2nd time after having reviewed info and it may not be a true representation of what you would have gotten correct. If you are just using the q's purely to learn from and not to guage where you are...then forget what I wrote and have at it.
