I second this. Go in confident(not arrogant). I had a good DMU interview, but a terrible one at what I thought was my first choice school at the time. I was surprised I even got in. You never know what will happen at each interview.

Don't freak out! You'll be fine. Many of the people I interviewed with said that they had a pleasant time interviewing. I was definitely the minority. I think you're bound to have some tough and some "easier" interviews at the various schools you visit. This one just happened to be mine. And though it was tough and I thought I bombed it, I was still accepted. Really, you never know. Just go in confident, be honest, and you'll be fine. !!! I'm sure it'll go well.

haha...I like number 1. I didnt even realize i spelled it that way, I really need to learn to proof read. But man I definately should have followed the course of action that you laid out on the second choice. But because I dont have the stats to blow off any school (need all the chances I can get) I just sucked it up.

It's easy for people like me to talk tough outside of interview. You definitely did the right thing in the face of total subjugation and disrespect. It's possible I would have reacted the same way. I think. 😀

thanks I am actually very excited about the acceptance, because no matter what I know i am going somewhere. As for DMU i was put on the waitlist after my interview.
I think it would be nice if they would tell you why the rejected you. That way if it is a fixable thing you could correct it before your next interview.

I even started a grad program, continued volunteering/shadowing, did more EC's, and sent a letter of update almost every week to CCOM ... I did all this after the advice of their admissions counselors, who know me very well. I am shocked that I got the inteview waitlist..It's even worse to see fellow SDN'rs with competitive stats ( in some cases moreso than mine ) get flat out rejections.😡

It is quite worrisome. My MCAT is well below their average. It does sound weird that after discussing your app with them and doing all that extra work they would interview waitlist you. For those of you on hold or rejected are any of you from Illinois?

hah, try a 3.4 overall, 3.5 sci gpa, 30 mcat (12 12 6 in vr!!!!) and a bunch of clinical exposure, including clinical research with publications.qualified for disadvantaged status (amcas) and NO LOVE from d.o schools. i am getting some love from the allopathic schools though. maybe its bc i have no d.o letter or experience??or maybe its because im in a fraternity well known across the u.s. as being sluts.haha,i dunno...dont care anymore. only have unecom, atsu-kirks and nycom left on the list of osteo's.

it's not written in stone, but if youre applying with a 30 MCAT and 3.4 ish gpa, and doing so WITHOUT a d.o letter, chances are most d.o schools think that youre only applying to them as a backup..almost all the schools strongly recommend getting one.
i only say this because there are plenty of people with a lot lower stats than you ( myself included ) who got some love , * but with a d.o letter of rec.

maybe you still have time to shadow a d.o for a week or so and pull off a letter of rec? good luck either way.

So I talked to Heather at LECOM-B last Friday and she said my app was being reviewed and updates or something would be sent out on Monday. I thought I was overanalyzing because it seems most of the interview invites have gone out by phone call but I wasn't. Today in the mail, straight out rejections for both me and my husband from what was one of our top choice schools. I really wanted to experience a PBL session and other aspects of the school and the area but obviously God has other plans for us. This one definitely hurts a lot more than Touro-NV but we're looking forward to DCOM so onward and upward!! 😀

Thanks prions! That last part made me laugh so thanks for lifting my spirits. I'm just hoping with everything in me that Erie doesn't straight up reject me too with my husband already having an interview scheduled there. I decided I'm not going to have top choices anymore. There was a point last year where my husband and I were only going to apply MD and our top choice school replied to my husband's e-mail and said they would not even consider his app because he matriculated at another med school in the 90s. It was quite devastating. I even looked at pictures of the campus and thought maybe I might be there someday. More recently, LECOM-B became one of our top choices and just the other day I was looking at the picture of the building thinking maybe I'll be there someday soon. I swear this is a sign that I should let go of my preconceived ideas of what school would be best for us and go with the flow, so to speak. Whew, that was long!! 😀

I keep looking at pictures of DMU and picturing my self there . . . heck I even looked up apartments near the school and the nearest shopping malls! I just want to go there so bad 😳 I have faith that everything will work out for us . . . we just need to trust that we're on this path for a reason and whatever ends up happening is the right thing for the time being. Accept the process! That's what I need to do. I decided I'm allowed to picture myself actually going to visit DCOM because I have an interview but I will push the other schools out of my mind if/when I get an interview from them. I really do feel it will work out like it's supposed to and in the meantime I just have to do my best to be prepared for my interview and not let myself get freaked out. I'm sure my husband is sick of hearing about me worrying about not getting interviews. He has more wisdom than I do in his old age. Seriously, feel free to talk/vent to me anytime. 🙂

Thanks t! I am so excited about DCOM! I've only heard great things about the school and I actually graduated from a school in Knoxville 6.5 years ago. I haven't been back to the area since. I'm thrilled with DCOM already because I feel like they looked beyond my 22 MCAT and saw what I could offer, not to sound conceited or anything. I knew I would feel forever indebted to the first school who would be willing to give me that chance. I keep saying that although a higher MCAT score outwardly shows you can handle med school, personally scoring higher on the MCAT will not make me any better of a doctor than I already am. I will still be retaking on January 25though should I be waitlisted somewhere. 😛

So I didn't want to share my PBL story, but hopefully this will make you feel better: at Bradenton, there were 2 students in the group with rather large personalities, and at the end of the session, the other students complained how they were not making much progress b/c of the two students, and asked the group leader for more guidance/structure. I personally love PBL b/c that is how I did a large part of my education, but I think the schooling is more about what you put into it, and not how it is taught. I'm sure the experience will be just as good at DCOM. Goooood Luck

maybe, but who knows, u could be right. as for shadowing, just have no time rite now. working 2 jobs and i just cant find the extra time.im down to my last 3 schools anyways, really hoping for nycom and unecom, so its probably to late to start thinking about obtaining a d.o letter. ill just hope for the best, in the meantime, im preparing for my meharry(im not urm) and temple interviews!

I disagree. I have 3.25 overall GPA, 30 MCAT (with a 6 in verbal), no DO letter, a very poor MD letter (from physicians I shadowed in the Philippines in 2003, completely outdated and short, merely stating that I was there with them for three weeks...) And I got 3 DO interviews, 1 acceptance (declined the rest of the interviews after Western's acceptance), so i think the lack of DO letter may not be the crucial factor of your application... Just my two cents...

Thanks violin! That does make me feel better. It's not nice to be rejected but it's probably for the best. My husband has really bad allergies and Tampa was ranked #1 for worst spring allergies. 😛

I emailed them and asked about my status and got a short email saying no interview at this time. it was very unclear as to whether they meant hold-list or what. Said I would get a packet in the mail with further information. No packet yet and it has been almost a month since. Very odd. I emailed back and asked what that meant. They said "like an old girlfriend, we've moved on."

I mulled through this thread looking for the bleakest sign of happiness, but to no avail. This is where I will hope to come in and help you all out. I want to say that you all should not get your hopes up! Here are my stats:

Age: 21
Sex: Male
MCAT: 27N
GPA: 3.18
Sci: 3.06
Volunteering: 2 semesters in ER
Shadowing: Dentist for 2 summers
Extracuriculars: Resident Assistant for 3 years; computer technician for 3 years

Nothing all that fantastic or exciting. Spots will be opening up, especially if you are placed on the waitlist. Just send your schools a Letter of Intent (LoI) and let them know you are still interested! If you have upcoming interviews, just be open and be yourself. They are looking for outgoing people who have the potential to be great.. not ones that are great.
