Official Rush Countdown..

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I talked with the office today (THursday) and was told that the wait list is moving ALOT slower than last year..last year they admitted all the way uptil 50th percentile...so far they haven't even started through the top of 25th percentile (only a handful have been accepted thus far)....this is discouraging but we'll see...good luck

•Hey Rxfudd, how ar eyou man...well if you don't mind sharing...what were your stats...the reason i ask is b/c i feel that all my ECs, Recs, GPA's, etc..is fine its just the MCAT....thanks..
•••••I had a 3.80 GPA with a 26 MCAT (7 9 10 Q) - the rest of my application was good, though, regardless of my MCAT score (in fact, at my interview they said that they would basically ignore my 7 in light of everything on my app) - lots of activities that I think helped a lot. The clincher for me was my interview with the dean - it went as well as one can expect an interview to go (PM me if you want the details). I say this because I was waitlisted at every other school I interviewed at and they all saw the same stuff on paper that Rush did - I guess Rush is less concerned with numbers, especially if your application is really good otherwise.

has anyone heard anything?

I got a call last week and got in! Just in case anyone is still waiting out there. The waitlist is still moving...but slow.

hey brandon, are you going to keep your spot...? Just curious what were you stats if you dont mind?

At this point, I am planning on sending a letter of deferral for 2003. I spoke with Jan several times about it already and from what I gather, it shouldn't be a problem. So there should be a spot left open within the next week or so, depending on how quickly they reply to me. If it's denied (again, I think it'll be approved), then I'll be attending this August.

There may be at least one spot opening up soon. I am fairly sure that I am giving mine up. I was pulled off Case Western's waitlist this week am pretty sure I'm going to go there. I would really like to live in Chicago but feel like I would be silly to pass up Case. Thoughts on this?

congrats on your acceptance to both! I think both have their advantages....reptutation and rank wise,, case is much better, bu tthen you are in ohio vs. chicago. also, case places better residencies but then i don't know how well rush places. m y friends' older brother went to northwestern for undergrad, case for med school and got cardiology residency at brighams (harvard) in boston. hope this helps,

Thanks for your advice. I do think I'm going to go but will be very sad to leave Chicago - reassurance that this is a good decision helps. Best of luck.

hey maybe you can tell rush you want ME to get your spot, j/k! Good luck with everything

if anyone calls tomorrow, let me know what they say..thanks

i called rush...today...only 14 accpetances have been given thus far!...good or bad?

srt3,

Congrats! I can't say much about Case cause I don't know much about it or know anybody from there. But I have visited the local schools around chicago and I thought Rush was the best. You get what you pay for I guess. The staff and administration at Rush I thought were top notch. Ppl from other schools complain their admin. and faculty could care less about them. I would try to contact a student at Case to make sure this isn't the case there. Reputation is one thing, atmosphere is another. Good luck!

i agree with brandon...make sure students at case are happy!...

rxfudd, if you don't mind, what was the name of the dean you interviewed with? i was thinking of writing a letter of interest to someone besides ms. schmidt!

anyone call the office recently?

did any of the 1st quartile peeps hear anything?

Anxiousmed,
hold on dude! For some reason this year is moving slow. I haven't gotten a reply back yet on my request for deferred entry but it should be coming soon. Will let you know when I do, which means one more slot has opened up. Good luck.

PS - where are you ranked at?

hey what's up brandon, how ar eyou? well thanks for posting, i am in the 2nd quartile but at the very top , she specifically told me that i'm 29th percentile...i hope that this list moves!!!! it would be nice to have a 1st acceptance, has anyone else heard frm RUSH recently?

i talked to rush today, 25 peeps have been accepted from the waitlist.....anyone from sdn?

there's got be some SDN'ers that have heard?......cmon..i know you're out there!

Has anyone heard anything?

anyone going to call today?

Okay, I got my official approval letter for deferred entry! I'll be starting in 2003 instead of this August. So one more spot has opened up as of yesterday. Also, Keri said she just made a couple more offers (besides mine). I need to send in an official letter indicating I accept their approval of deferrment, then Rush can send out an acceptance to someone else for my spot. Heard 2 others also deferred (could be the two spots Keri just gave out but not sure). Good luck and let me know how it goes!

hey brandon, i just talked to the office on friday....no more movement really...so i don't iif your spot has gone or not....but she said they are still working down still in the 1st quartile....oh well....i hope i get in...i reallllllly doooo.....in the meantime im retaking the mcat, starting AP program at Finch and working on AMCAS again....yea i know i'm a ANXIOUS MED.....but hey aren't or weren't we allll at some point....

haha. How right you are. Believe me, I know what you're going through. I was just fortunate enough to get off the waitlist early. Well, good luck with the MCAT, and especially with AMCAS (they really suck!). I feel for you. If only Rush could see this posting, they would see how much you truly want to go there...

Good luck and hope to see you there!

hi anxious, i had to join and respond to you. i too am on the waitlist at rush and i feel your pain. i am in the top 25% and was told that most people in this ranking get in. who knows if that will actually happen though. i emailed ms. schmidt on friday and haven't gotten a response yet.

you posted that they told you that 25 people had been accepted on july 12. i called rush on july 19th and was told that only 20 people had been accepted from the waitlist and that they were going to make 4 more offers on either fri or mon (july 19th or 22nd). hmmm. are you noticing some kind of discrepancy? i don't know what the deal is, but they are giving different info to different people. just wanted to get your thoughts on this.

also, is there a ranking within the quartiles? does it really give us bonus points when they mark down that we have called?

hey queen, well i think we are ranked within the quartiles...hmm....that's weird that we are getting different information, do you know how many people are in each quartile....did schmidt write you back? have you been accepted elsewhere? i wish i had a back up! oh well....hopefully this list moves, WHY ISN"T IT MOVING?

earlier in this forum, someone said there were 200 people on the rush waitlist. if that information is correct, that would put 50 people in each quartile. i haven't heard from ms. schmidt yet. she may not be in practice of answering her email. i haven't been accepted anywhere else. i am on one other waitlist, but i don't have any faith in that, so if i don't get into rush, i am going to do my mph and then apply again. i am planning on making my weekly call to rush tomorrow. have you called recently?

hey queen, i just finished my mph, its a good deal. i'm in the same boat as you. i don't think the wait list is going to move this year anymore.....oh well....i'll prob make my once a week call tomorrow.....its so useless though...i dont know what else to ask them now.....this sucks....have you been working on your 2003 amcas yet?

i live in chicago right now and i am doing my mph in LA. i just finalized all my plans to move out there because like you said, i don't think that the waitlist is going to move. i will be really pissed if i hear from rush now that i have spent money elsewhere and made other plans. don't get me wrong, i'll be really happy if i got in, its just a huge pain. you know what i mean. i haven't started on my 2003 amcas because my mph program is 2 years long. so i figured i would apply next summer for the entering class of 2004. do you think that's wise? plus i just graduated undergrad in dec 2001 and have pretty much been a professional bum since then, so i feel like i don't have anything substantial to add since my last application besides the fact that i am starting my mph. no new recs, no new ECs. so i think its best i wait. the only thing i am concerned about is my mcat. i took it in april 2001 and i don't want it to be too old by the time i reapply. whatever. at this point i am just very frustrated with this whole system

hey did anyone hear anything from rush, i haven't...i start the ap program from cms tom...so i hope someone keeps this thread active....

anxious,
i called rush yesterday and they told me that so far they have only made 25 offers and are still in the top 25%. so basically, nothing new.

any news????????????????

Dear Anxious Med and Queen,
I just got into Rush today @ 5:00p.m. and accepted to turn down U of Iowa. I'll call tomorrow to let another get my spot. From what they told me at Rush (all approximates), the list moved about 10 spots this last week.
It seems this list is beginning to get some speed! The next week should get to the last of the top quartile? I know tuition at Chi-Med is expensive, so I hope you (Anxious) do well. I hope You (Queen) get to stay in Chicago and can bypass that MPH.
I did alot of work for/at Rush, and that may have been a plus for my application. In fact, this was my top choice and I geared everything toward it.

Peace!

congrats bud, man, you re lucky, i am kinda of depressed over the whole thing...i don't know what else do they want from me......oh well..chicago med has started an di'm doin gthe ap thing there and amcas 2003 here we come....right? i hope i get a call!
anxious😕
