upenn is the other school- i know it has a lot of name recognition, but i got a really good feeling from the students at tufts and the impression that there is really great clinical training....any help people could give would be appreciated!!!!

tufts' name recognition isn't so bad itself. a lot of times a dental school's "popularity' is linked to the strength of the undergraduate program. UPenn is obviously up there, but you can check out the 2008 US News and Reports undergraduate rankings for Tufts. they aren't too shabby either. i think somewhere in the 20s of the entire US which is on par with UCLA, univ of michigan, UNC chapel hill, and wake forest. while this has nothing to do with how great the two dental programs are, if anyone knows anything about colleges, they tufts is no slouch. both are great schools. i've heard that tufts probably has a better clinical program and boston > philly in most ppl's minds. but if name recognition is what you want, then UPenn has got tufts beat there.

anyone started to look for an apartment yet? Cause I am out of country now traveling. so, if anyone started to look for one needs roommate, let me know. I heard that Malden and S. Boston are the places are nice safe and affordable. I already paid 3000 total deposit. Did anyone pay all deposit? And What did you guys get from school? Cause I am out of country, it is hard to contact Gillian. ANyway, I am happy that I will see you guys this fall. Good luck to you.

How did you figure $3000? I thought the first one is $1500, but the second deposit is $500 and is due april 15th?

Gosh I love the VCU deposit; $500 the first deposit and $300 the second deposit. Sorry, I'll leave!

I finally decided that TUFTS was better fit for me. I also noticed that the Tufts C/O 2012 thread for kinda died off. Just curious to see who else choose Tufts and how the housing search was going?

Just wanted to Share!! I just came back from Boston and I found a great place at a great price. Luxury 2bd 2bath from $1550 including internet, water and direct tv W/ HBO (Not that I’m going to be watching much tV anyways). It’s a brand new complex about 6 miles from Boston close to the Malden/revere line. It offers a free shuttle from the complex to the Malden T and to the government center in Boston. I timed it and with the free shuttle it takes only 30 to 35 minutes to get to school (17 minutes on the T to school). My girlfriend and I really liked it and it has a ton of amenities. (large gym, indoor basketball court, pool, free yoga and Pilates classes, movie rooms w/ large TVs, etc, etc). is it me or does it seem like tufts is the last dental school to start?? my dental D12 friends are already receiving grades on assignments and i'm still sleeping till 12pm! i'm getting anxious!

There are a number of dental schools that don't start until after labor day - enjoy the break while you can!

Anway, I used amazon to create a listmania list with the books listed on the tufts website for the first year courses. Maybe someone can comment on which of these books are worth getting.

thanks for compiling that list! check out the facebook group for our class. a D11 has made a list under the discussion board outlining which books are useful and which are not, called "Book List".
