That's a very good point you mentioned xenodragon - I think as Waterloo is also becoming more established, fewer students are having doubts about a new program and the associated "kinks" that need to be worked out. They do have that co-op program that is very appealing. Another draw of Waterloo is that many students from UToronto (St.George) who are in their 3rd and 4th years have grown weary of the competitive atmosphere, many are probably commuters from the GTA, would see Waterloo as an opportunity to move out and try it out on their own, since they've "made it" at this point, with a good career already guaranteed (almost) for you after 4 years, it's time to relax a little bit.
Hopefully many students will choose Waterloo over Toronto (I know I would've) and the waitlist keeps on moving along.
I would not say that the Waterloo program is disorganized. Do you mean that things such as the UT UPS are still be constructed? That's to be expected since the school is new. The co-op part is extremely well organized since well it's not the only program at Waterloo that does co-op. Being a regular student here is sorta the minority. lol. The school of pharmacy has tons of help in ensuring that process is smooth. Yes, the building housing the school is still under construction (blame KW labour strike), but if you drive by, its a GORGEOUS building that will be open to occupation soon.I personally love it that I'm gonna be part of something new and be able to partake in decisions and processes that well, simply put, are not part of an established school.Although I do agree that Waterloo is becoming more established, it may take a bit longer for them to be on solid ground as I heard it's still a bit disorganized. Maybe someone in the program can shed some light on this?
Don't forget that every time someone chooses UofT > UW, the UofT waitlist is shortened while the UW waitlist does not change, so it can work both ways. Personally, I think I'd lean towards UofT if given the choice because it's more established and I get to be closer to home, although I can see why people would choose UW > UofT too.

Congrats to those who got in! Especially after that waitlist! While I decided to give up my UT seat for UW, I'm in no way undermining the UT pharmacy. Just given the choice, I'd rather be a trailblazer than part of an existing institution. Yes that is TOTALLY cliche but that's who I am. lol
Great then! Good to hear it's automatic. Hopefully OSAP and UTAPS will be enough for me...
Another question: Is the combination of Scotiabank + UTAPS interest payments not better than the National Bank of Canada? I haven't really looked at it too much but the thread linked to earlier in this thread suggests that NBOC is better than Scotiabank for funding; although it would seem that with the UTAPS interest payments that Scotiabank makes more sense. At least that's the way it's seeming to me at the moment
That's if I'm reading the UTAPS page correctly...
"UTAPS Program Eligibility
Eligible Programs
For students who are registered full-time during the Fall and Winter Sessions, these programs are eligible for UTAPS grant funding.
The following programs are eligible for UTAPS grant plus an additional subsidy for eligible interest payments on the Scotia Professional Plan for Students, or another lending plan of your choice.
Arts and Science St. George Campus Applied Science and Engineering- Doctor of Pharmacy
Education (OISE/UT) - BEd Music Nursing- Physical Education and Health
- Radiation Sciences
School of Graduate Studies (with exceptions listed below)- Transitional Year Program
- University of Toronto Mississauga
- University of Toronto Scarborough (semester funding)
They also mention another lending program of your choice, so perhaps this works with the NBOC as well then?
Dentistry (DDS and MSc with clinical specialty)- Master in Financial Economics
- Master of Health Science
Pharmacy (BSc)"
The deadline for waterloo was june 20th actually. But they were pretty lax about their decisions too, no financial commitments yet.Hang in there taikwon - toronto doesn't require any deposit and seem quite lax about submitting in your decision letter on time. There's probably a good number of students who have been accepted to both schools and are still trying to decide between the schools and are still holding both acceptances even though the deadline for your decision has already passed (for toronto, not sure what the deadline is for waterloo).
😀 just got my email!!! (it was mailed like 2 hours ago! haha) i'm off the waitlist toooo!!!
i think i might be hyperventilating!!!! 😱 OMG!!! i totally didn't expect this!!!
Don't give up fellow waitlisters!!!![]()
thanks for the positive, encouraging words apple52....
regardless of what's the outcome will be for me in the next couple weeks, this ride that I'm going through this year has made me think about my future alot more than ever before. So I think its been helpful nevertheless....
sooooooooo, anyone looking for a roommate??? I`m moving from a couple of provinces away and online apartment shopping isn't very reliable (or so I've heard). and how is the toronto transit system?? I hear its pretty good so how far away could a person live without too long of a trip?
ok... then here's a different question....
are the any people left on this site (other than myself) that are still on the waiting list??
if so... are you on the upper or lower half of the list?
i know they said we'd find out between august 1st and early september.... but seeing that several users here have already gotten in and that there has been no activity here over the past week, has made me wonder if admissions off the waitlist has changed.

apple52... again thanks.... ur the only one here helping me keep my head straight.....
just curious.... how much is tuition for this year?
Hi taikwon,
I applied to UofT as well and I am on the lower half of the waitlist, so I feel your pain.
From what I've seen so far, the ppl who have been accepted are not as active in SDN compared to those from last year (check out last year's similar thread).
There is also a low turnout on Facebook as well. There is already a group created for class of 2012 but as of now, there are only 115 or so members. This time last year, almost all 240 who were accepted had already joined the group.
I don't know what all that means but I just wanted to point it out.
I'm about to start second year sciences, and I'm planning on applying to both UofT and Waterloo. I don't have much volunteer experience in the health-care field. Can anyone recommend places to start volunteering at, in order to satisfy the "experience" requirement for the University of Waterloo.
PS: I'm a student at UWO.
