What list were you on before?
I was originally on the alternate list. Now they said I am on the unranked waitlist, which consist of 6 people. However, Missy told me before when I was on the alternate list there was not a waitlist for IS applicants. I don’t know why I would have been told that when there is.

In the alternate list email I originally received it said their was an alternate list and a waitlist, the waitlist is more like the people that will get a spot as soon as one becomes available, and the alternate list list seems like candidates they like but they are interested in other options at that time. I was never notified when I moved from the alternate list to the waitlist, I was just notified of acceptance.

Thank you! I'm thinking Kentucky because I like the small class size and the lack of specialties meaning we are less likely to refer out. I am torn because I'd rather live in loiiLouisv but I'm trying to get on board with living in Lexington. The gorge sounds nice at least
There are a lot of specialties at Kentucky including OMFS, perio, ortho, and pedo. UKCD is a great school but they don’t “lack specialties” and aren’t “less likely to refer out”

Lack was not the right word. They have a much smaller residency program than other schools which I believe means we have less competition for patients. Sorry if I upset you
Didn’t upset me, I don’t go to UKCD so I have nothing to be offended about. I just happen to know UKCD does have specialities and that means that some complex cases get taken over by the residents

Moved to the IS waitlist today. Only six people on the waitlist for IS. Hope to hear from them soon. I was accepted at UofL, but would prefer UK.
Did they say that there were only six people on their IS waitlist? Or did they say that only 6 IS people were moved from the alternate list to waitlist?

They told me the waitlist had six 6 people on it. They did not say six people move to the wait list on that day. Not that that couldn’t be the case, they were not extremely specific. However, I doubt six spots would open up all at once for six to be move onto it in one day.[/QUOTE]

Hi everyone, I’m currently a D2 at UKCD 🙂 Feel free to ask me any questions you may have about dental school! Unfortunately, I have no knowledge about admissions but I’d be happy to let you know about our curriculum, clinic, etc.

Hi! What does your typical day as a D1 look like? Anything you wished you had known before starting at UKCD?

Hi! What does your typical day as a D1 look like? Anything you wished you had known before starting at UKCD?

At UK they really do try to ease you into the dental school curriculum so D1 Fall was the easiest semester. Most weeks you’ll spend MWF afternoons in our Sim Lab with 2 sessions dedicated to waxing and 1 session dedicated to Operative (preparations and fillings). Our Sim Lab and adjacent wet lab is actually open 24hrs a day which isn’t the case with a lot of other schools. The core science classes you take first semester are biochem and histology while the dental oriented courses you take are the lectures for Dental Anatomy (goes along with waxing lab), Operative, Perio, and Cariology. Then there are a few healthcare/communications/ethics related classes.

The best part about the Fall is that you actually get to go on a 3-day trip to KY elementary schools and place sealants on kids. UK really prides itself on early clinic exposure. For instance, you can begin placing restorations, making dentures, exams/xrays, and performing cleanings in clinic at the beginning of D2! I’ve personally started all of these things. A bunch of D2s have also extracted teeth already and began prepping crowns on patients (under supervision of course). Anyway back to D1, so the class will be split into about 4 groups for the Sealant Trip so not everyone is away at the same time. In addition to this, you’ll have a Clerkship every week or two which is essentially shadowing/assisting the different departments at UK including our regular DMD clinic and the specialty programs. The schedule isnt too bad for D1 — i wanna say its approx maybe 8/9-5 three days per week and 9-3 the other two days for the Fall (though the class times vary a lot each week).

In D1 Spring, you’ll continue with Operative sim lab but I think we had that 2 afternoons per week in addition to an Occlusion class/lab one afternoon per week. Core science classes are Physio and Anatomy w/cadaver lab (we observed dissections done by other departments, not sure if that will be different next year). You’ll learn how to take xrays, more communications/ethics classes, more clerkships, another perio class where you learn how to clean eachothers teeth. It becomes a little more intense in the Spring but you still have quite a few days with open hours to study! The big library on campus is open 24 hours but I usually will study in the Med Library during the day which is in the dental school building (okay hours). Another great part about UKCD is that we also had summer break for 5-6 weeks!

I cant think of too many things I had wished I’d known... definitely dont bother studying before school. A lot of my classmates live right next to campus and it only takes them 5-10 mins to walk to school. I live about a mile away but drive bc Im lazy. A lot of my classmates have pets — I wanna say about half have a cat or a dog. Start looking for apartments early! I wish I had laundry/dishwasher. It can be worth it to meal prep on weekends. Your experience in dental school is really up to you and what you want to get out of it.

Thank you so much for this! It really helps.

Yes!! This was so nice! Thank you for taking the time to write this!! I'm finishing my scholarship essay now so this just made it all the more exciting!!

Glad someone on here got it! Will you attend?!

What is the other school if you don't mind me asking? See I got accepted into my state school which will put me at less than 200k of debt and it was still sour for me to say no to UK. They are absolutely a top notch clinical program.

Roseman. Roseman is pretty hit or miss with a lot of people, but I have friends there and really enjoyed the school and area. Kentucky has a great program too and would save me money even with paying OOS tuition so I will probably accept their offer.

Congrats man! Makes me feel good that someone got the spot!

Anyone else receive an email about continued interest in being an alternate/waitlist yesterday? I’m curious if they are choosing from the alternate list now, or if they are just cleaning up their lists. Thanks!

They are on the alternate list now.

How do you know that? Do you know how many more slots do they have to fill?
The wording in the waitlist email made it sound like they were getting ready to send out additional offers 😵... for who knows though lol.

Did your email say it was to remain on the waitlist or the alternate list? Mine specifically say it was to remain on the alternate list.

It asked about the alternate list specifically. Hopefully they have gone through the waitlist and are picking from the alternates. Good luck!

Not sure if this matters or not, but I was accepted a week ago. I think I am the last one (#65).

Mind telling us your stats? I will be applying next year as OOS w/ strong Ky ties.
Thanks!

Thanks!

DAT - 24AA, 24TS, all sections above 20 with 30 OC, 30 math, 27 PAT.

GPA - terrible, 2.98 cGPA, 3.1 sGPA, 3.8 GPA (Masters)

I think the reason I was waitlisted for so long and why I barely got in is primarily because of my GPA and because I am OOS.

That’s a rocking DAT score, though. Congrats on your acceptance!
