Yea, HOLY ****

I looked at the final exam list like two weeks ago, and misread my final exam date. Instead of reading the date for my orgo chem 2 final, i looked at the orgo chem 1 final. Last time i took orgo1, the orgo 2 ppls were taking it, so i guess this is what caused me to be careless.

Anyhow, this is my second time taking it, and I really dont wanna take it again.

Last year, i was taking physics and was just real sick. I went to the docs two days before the exam, and was allowed to right the final in the summer.

I really have nothing better to do then go to the docs. He/she will provide me with a suitable note. What do you guys think? It was an honest mistake...

Could be a troll...
But if you are not, it's worth a try. Good luck.

Could be worse. You could've been hit by a car and found yourself lying on the street with your legs several feet away (pun intended).

I'm banking on this being a troll since the last thing on my mind on the eve of an unexpected final would be to create an SDN account and post a lengthy question.

And if it's not a troll, I guess I'm going to hell.

i forgot to take an online final once...

why do you guys assume...?

seriously, Im not making this up. I don't know how I could sound more legit...

Now please, what do you guys think? Like, I really don't have any other options.

Well since you have no other option and since this has sorta worked in the past, go for it.

The only other option is studying. Or really injuring yourself. Badly.

So... finals already? What kind of college are you attending? Most quarter systems are in the first few weeks of spring quarter, and semester systems are half way through.

But if this is a legitimate post, I suggest getting off SDN and using the rest of the time to do something productive instead of trying to find an excuse for your inability to read dates.

Well, if the exam is 2-3 days away, you might have a chance to cram 20 hours a day and be ready for it. If not, do what you can and go get a doctor's note. Just a piece of advice, don't ever pocrastinate on orgo - if you study orgo on a regular basis you should be ready for an exam with only 2-3 days of studying (not cramming).

Yea, im shocked.

I guess what I'm trying to ask is what would you, the student do in this scenario? and if you were a teacher, what would you think?

Im kinda scared that my teacher, who i dont talk to much , but she tries to talk to me, will not believe the "i was feeling sick" excuse, even if i provide a note.

Most experienced professors (and ochem professors tend to be experienced) will tell you to come anyway and will stare at you and unless you look like you would die during the exam and create a lot of paperwork, your doctor's note isn't going to do anything.

You could just fess up. Or, again, just study.

but, is a doctors not not sufficient enough to be excused from an examination? teachers cant just refuse your doctors note etc. right?

A professor isn't going to excuse you from an exam--much less a final exam--because you have a note from a doctor when you look fine. People need to take exams while they have the flu, stomach flu, and common cold. What symptoms could you possibly pull off in less than 24 hours that would convince a professor that you're incapable of sitting for an exam?

Then go and get that mother***** note for God's sake and stop wasting our time.

You only have two choices, get a note or fail the exam. Do what you must do, it's not that hard.

Do you know the Pareto Principle ?

20% of the materials will be the 80% of the important ideas you will need to know on the test.

I would suggest you to figure out what are the important ideas for your test and study for them from now.

have you attempted such a stunt before? If not, you are merely speculating.

I actually tried it a few weeks ago. But you're right. You came here with your mind made up so you should just go get that doctor's note, find out that it won't get you out of the final, and fail the course a second time.

Congratulations. That's pretty impressive.

ive decided that i will go see a doctor tomorow. ill make up something about viral infection etc.

anyhow, any suggestions on what I should do after the doc's visit? such as modes/date of informing my prof of my absence etc.

how did it work out for you? or r u being sarcastic in a foul way?

I took a final a day late last quarter because I merely had a bad cold and had trouble focusing my eyes. Some people were already scheduled to take it then and the prof let anyone who wanted to join them – it was at 8am so it was a small group, but I was seriously grateful for the extra time because it allowed my head to decompress a little and made reading the questions much easier.

It really depends on the professor but in my experience (well I don't even bother because I see all my friends making excuses and getting shut down), professors laugh in students faces when it comes to this stuff. They know it's a load of bull for people to get "sick" before an exam. If you were vomitting all over the place that can't be refuted but other than that I'd say you're screwed.

I've taken exams with the flu, bronchitis, viral infections, strep, etc. The point is that you shouldn't really have to miss an exam for being sick because you weren't supposed to be cramming at the last minute anyways.

For your sake I hope it works this time but don't count on using this during medical school.

BTW I'm guessing you don't go to class because if you did you'd probably hear your professor announcing the final date 7,000 times. That's usually a biggie in terms of announcements.

i once fell down stairs and got a concussion- got me out of my orgo final til after break- you could try that...
EDIT: JUST KIDDING

One time I missed my final because I thought it was on Thurs instead of Wed/ It was for into anthro with the easiest professor in my entire school (ie 98% of the class got As) and it was the qtr right before my transcripts would be submitted to AMCAS. The prof let me take it on fri with a different class he was teaching. 😎

havent u been attending class and been passing the regular exam....

so y wont u pass or do good on the final after abt 10 hrs of studying..

i guess some people are naturally stupid.

OMFingG!!!! I mean, seriously....OMG!!! Like, how could you forget a final exam date!??!!!!😱

I have one next thursday.... because they we do about 4 periods (t/r class) of special topic presentations and she gives us finals week off!

and thats biochem2. yeah, i got a little lucky

... What kind of school has finals in the middle of April?

they must have classes under a bridge.

i had a family emergency the night before a midterm (think 20 hour evacuation from a city that was about to get slammed with the fourth-most intense hurricane ever to be recorded; ppl were running out of gas and being stranded on the side of the road), and i went in and failed that exam really badly. but hey, i've had around a dozen acceptances so far, so it didn't keep me from getting in anywhere.

the kind that holds classes under a bridge i'm sure.

if not, then way to cheat, and way to implicate your potential future profession in your cheating.

OP = epic fail

Take some responsibility already.

Couldn't resist...

I took my first organic II exam with mono. Like...really BAD mono...went to the hospital shortly there after. Missed a bunch of class (from the mono) and didn't do so hot on the 2nd test (but didn't fail) the third test was fine. Rocked it actually... took the final right AFTER getting in a really bad car wreck and being discharged from the hosptial (less then 24 hours prior).

People who make up excuses and illnesses piss me off. I mean, maybe it's because I couldn't catch a freakin break to save my life....who knows.

And yes. A teacher CAN refuse a doctor's note. ESPECIALLY if they think you're bull****ting.

Yeah unless you've blown off the class, if you're not actually sick then a day should be plenty of time to review.

Guys, you know the OP has to be a troll right?

I'd MAN UP and accept the fact it is my fault I was not on top of things the way I should have been, and suffer the consequences. I definitely do not mean to be harsh but this is your 2ND time taking the class! I would have ensured everything about that class takes precedence.

People tend to learn most from their mistakes...best of luck to you

well i got a legit docs note stating my absence. now, the teacher has to accept it, or else i must go forth and file an appeal or something.

whats up with these failure pictures? perhaps many of you have them hung in your room with beautiful frames.

Lol no dude, we're just trying to describe you and your situation.
OP: keep crying wolf... 😀

I once thought of a way to pull this off. Syrup of ipecac, which is found OTC at the drug store I think, causes vomiting. You could go in to the final, and swig a little a few minutes into the test...

Congrats for finding a way to wiggle yourself out of your careless mistake.
