Hi guys,
I’m really worried right now about the possibilities of me getting into dental school. The reason being that I have failed Physics I, prior to this F I had 3.6 GPA and now I have a 3.2 GPA . Being a sophomore I still have several classes left to take to help bring up my GPA and retake Physics I. Does anyone know how the admissions committee will look at this? In my school, if I take a course that I’ve failed over and get a better grade they discount the F from my GPA, but I was wondering how dental schools will look at this F in physics. BTW, I plan on studying my ass off for the rest of my undergrad years, and hopefully get into to dental school. Any advice is welcomed. Thanks.

It's OK... Just concentrate on your other classes and do as well as you can in them! Take Physics I and II over the summer somewhere if you can, and make sure you get at least a B+ your second time around (aim for an A!!). You're not the first one to fail a class, and you're not going to be the last. As long as you work hard and don't let it happen again...you'll be fine!

Good luck.

You will be fine. It is the unique attributes that make an applicant visible to the admissions committee. It shows your human, make mistakes, yet still strive for your goals. Since they will now look more carefully upon your application you should take advantage of this opportunity and give the ADCOMS a lot of good stuff to stare at. This is my way of shedding some light on your situation.

Unfortunately the dental schools won't replace your F with your new grade like your school does. They will count both of your grades the F and whatever you get second time around into the gpa. So the gpa your going to see at your university is gonna be higher since they replaced your grade. I got a D in my class too don't worry i retook it and got an A. Just don't get anymore from now on. Your still a sophmore plenty of time to make up for it. gluck.

Seriously!!! It's not medical school! You can get a few F's and still get into dental school!

For most dental schools a GPA of 3.4 is competitive (for med schools that might only get you an interview at Howard)

Retake the class, do well and you will get in.

Thanks for the advice guys it really cheered me up. I definitely made some changes to my study habits and also have gotten some new motivation to help me ace the rest of my undergrad years. One last question though; do you guys think i should quit my part-time job to focus more on school?

U will be fine. You don't need to know Physics for dental school. And they dont test u on Physics on the DAT.
