Ok, well, thanks to the few (2?) people who actually were helpful. And to the rest of you, I honestly was not bragging and this post was not a joke, but sorry if I gave flame to your insecurities. I've been here for three years and I've seen people go on and on about their 25+ DAT's and 1000's of hours of ec's, so naturally, I'm nervous.

Alright, I'm sooooo nervous right now. Could you all pretty please chance me? I've been visiting this forum every day for like three years. Anyway, my GPA's great (4.0 at prestigious UC, with more than half my grades being A+s) and my DATS are pretty consistent (Bio 21, G-Chem 23, O-Chem 21, QR 20, RC 21, AA 21, TS 21, PAT 19). I'm scared that I don't have great EC's because I'm graduating in three years (as opposed to four). I'm in my second year right now, and my application is going out on JUNE 1st! My EC's include two summers of research, a ceramics class, started a club at my UC, write for a semester science journal on campus, am currently shadowing (will have 50 hours by the time I apply - not too much, but I feel more than that is kind of a waste of time since I just watch), and hopefully will begin volunteering at a dental clinic. I have 1 LOR from research, 2 LOR's from graduate student instructors (bio and anthro), and hopefully 1 from a dentist and 1 from biochem graduate student instructor. Ummmm, I think that's pretty much it. I'm applying to 12 schools to start off with (all 5 Cali + others are OOS - nothing like Harvard or Columbia). If I don't get interviews or whatever by a certain date, I have a back-up list of 8 schools that I will also apply to. Please give me your honest opinions! Also, is a scholarship way too much to ask for? Thanks all!

:corny:

Is that you Klutzy

Ummm . . . I didn't understand any of those responses? Popcorn - am I providing you with entertainment? Cuz I'm seriously losing sleep over this. And was the "joke" comment for Mr. Popcorn or me? And, no I'm not Klutzy, if that comment was for me. Ummm, yeah?

Theres only one person who can answer that here /points to DRTOOTHACHE.

With your GPA, DAT, and ECs, if you are truly losing sleep over anything, you are a hardcore overachiever in need of a serious vacation. :scared:

the popcorn an joke comment are in reference to you losing sleep over nothing ... what are you so worried about? Look at the other "do i have a chance" posts and youll see that most of them dont have a 4.0 and 21 across the board on the DAT. If you think a scholarship is in your future ... why are you worried about acceptance?

You might want to check with schools about this. Most schools require professors to write your recommendations.

I think this is correct. I don't believe school's accept letters from graduate instructor's, unless the graduate student is your actual lecturer for the class. I would call up individual dental schools or talk to your pre-health advisor about this. I know at my school, grad students just teach the lab's for the science courses. Also, if your school has a 'committee letter', they might only accept LOR's from senior or adjunct faculty members (that you have had lecture with), or a faculty member that you might work under while conducting research.

Dude your screwed I think you should apply to podiatry school instead :smack::annoyed:

Thanks for that tip, though from my initial research, most schools are ok with grad student letters if your lectures are too big (500 - 600 students) to get to know the professor. Plus, Cal doesn't have a pre-dent committee or anything like that.

But I'll def call and double-check! :xf:

all I'm saying is that with those stats, you could waltz into the interview, tell them you like to strangle kitty cats for fun, and they would probably still let you in.

if you're serious (well, except the kitty cat part), i heart u 😍

Which UC gives away A+s? Can't be mine...If you had half A+s, then I would expect nothing less than a 28 on the DAT. 😀

You're in good shape...why not apply to Harvard and Columbia? Did you see their average stats?
Like 22/3.7 for Harvard and 21/3.6 for Columbia. You are beating both of those. You might need Prof LORs as opposed to GSIs.

Don't remind me of that vid on youtube 🙁

Numbers may qualify him for Harvard/or other schools but LOR's from grad instructors will affect big time.

u've been on this forum almost everyday for 3 years and u can't even decide whether or not ur stats are competitive? I know u just want someone else's opinion to see what others think about ur chance but seriously, come on now..
if u r not kidding, please use ur common sense.
don't get mad at me if i sounded a bit harsh 🙂

Holy smokes dude.

You used the following keywords in your initial post: prestigious, research, 4.0 (i knw that's a number--but it counts if you say it out loud), half A+s, 21s, started a club, ... write for a science journal .... umm ... what were you worried about again?

If I were you I'd be planning my next spring break yo. You earned it.

Yeah, I am a bit worried about the GSI LOR's, but I know that they are EXTREMELY strong. I know it's not an excuse, but I live at home and have to commute to Berkeley an hour each way, so going to professor OH's often is not an option since they are not at times that suit me well. Plus, I am only a second-year, so I've had less professor contact, too. I'll try for my biochem professor and see how things go, though. Maybe my faculty advisor, too?

And I'm not into the whole brand name (Columbia/ Harvard) thing . . .

But seriously, this post is NOT a joke. I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to get into d-school and I'll be REALLY REALLY REALLY depressed if I don't. My heart rate increases two-fold every time I think 'what f I don't get in? And, lol, for one of the posters, I'm a girl 😎

Guys, I cured cancer. And I'm scared that I won't win an award.... What are my chances?

Dude, you are fine. Keep it up

The 19 on the PAT could hurt you but you should still get some interviews. I know lots of people with your stats who take a few years to get in, so if things don't work out this next cycle just hang in there.

Is this a sarcastic or a serious post?

I think you just created this post to brag about your stats. And if you have been coming to this site for three years you should know whether or not your stats are competitive.

Good luck where ever you end up.👍
