Ohio is for lovers... and future doctors- OHIO APPLICANTS UNITE

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
are you going to ride the bull?

Oh, that's a tough one. I'm making that one of my 4 year goals. Maybe after step 1 I will go out to celebrate and drink enough to forget everything that I learned the previous 2 years and finally have the guts to ride the bull. If not then, maybe match day.

I applied to Cincy, CaseWRU and OSU. I'm waitlisted at case, never heard from Cincy and waiting to hear back from OSU- hopefully an acceptance!

Assuming I'm "waitlisted" at OSU does anyone have any special suggestions on what to do from there? It's my first choice so if anyone can give me some feedback it will be much appreciated.

Hopefully you get an acceptance! If you are waitlisted, I guess you should just keep them updated with any major accomplishments this semester. Not to be a downer, but last year I heard they had zero waitlist movement.

Hey guys. I'm a Michigander, but hopefully some of you Ohio peeps can help me out with some info...

Apparently, Wright State called me last Wednesday to offer me an interview invite. I'm pretty excited, as I wasn't expecting this being out of state, but I think I may have already irritated the admissions office. I never got a message from them, I checked and they have my correct cell phone number but I never got a voice mail...anyways, they sent me a sort of terse email asking me if I would be interested in interviewing at all since I didn't call them back. I am definitely interested, but if I were to schedule it now am I just going to be interviewing for a wait list? I will go the first available day they give me, but I'm pretty bummed since I interviewed at Temple today and they told me it could only be for a wait list spot.

Any advice about my chances at this point would be much appreciated! Also any suggestions for the interview would be great!

Well it looks like you don't have an MD acceptance yet, so if you want to go for MD then you're not in a position to be turning down interviews. It doesn't matter if you already "irritated" the admissions office. Just be nice and polite when you set up your interview and it will be fine.

Every year is different. Last year I interviewed in late Feb (I believe...around that time) and got waitlisted. And there was no movement off the wait list last year. This is a different year, though, and it has the new MCAT schedule. And it could be that they just didn't want me last year.

:luck:

I don't want to sidetrack this thread, but I don't care if I go MD or DO. I definitely plan on going to the interview regardless even if it was just for a waitlist because I've heard really good things about this school. I am also very attracted to the idea of having a class that is only 100 students. My goal was to find out if anyone that has interviewed there recently knows if they are still filling possible seats. Until today, I didn't think that an interview in January could only possibly be for a waitlist, so I was kind of blindsided by it. It's only a three hour drive from my house, so I would be an idiot to not spend a day finding out if I'm a good fit for the school. Just looking for some inside info from people who have been there (as I never have). I'm super excited to even get the opportunity to interview with them, I would just rather go into it prepared than have my jaw hit the floor at a second interview...I'm sure the look on my face today was priceless!

How do Ohio residents feel about CWRU?

Undergrad? 😍 😍 😍

Medical school? Eeeh...they seem to be using their students as guinea pigs a lot lately. They change the curriculum pretty regularly, and this makes for a lot of bitter students. We'll see how the upcoming classes do on boards. I think it is good to expose medical students to research, but their research rotation has some pretty unrealistic expectations for lab virgins and I know the school is having problems finding PIs that are happy to open their lab to a med student for a few weeks. The hospitals, however, are marvelous and the BRB has a great cafeteria.

(This review is coming from a student who knew she wouldn't fit well into the Case program, and was waitlisted/withdrew.)

Well it sucks that it's private and more expensive than the public in-state schools, however, the program is very unique. If you're the right kind of student I think it seems like it would be a great place. For instance, even though I have been accepted at UCinci, I am just not a good fit for the traditional curriculum they have (don't get me wrong, Cinci it an excellent school! I just don't think it's for me). I'm looking for flexibility and a close-knit environment and I think Case serves my purposes a bit better. Right now I'm deciding between the Case and CCLCM.

From what I believe ( and from what I have heard), interviews after mid february are generally for waitlist spots...most seats are filled up by then. I recieved an interview on March 3 as well, and I was told by some friends that is is kinda pointless to go...so i am not going!

Hey Big Bayood,

When did you get your interview invite for OSU?

For those who were waitlisted at OSU, don't give up! I got waitlisted 10/15 and then accepted last month! There has gotta be movement on the waitlist..keep hope alive!

For anyone who wants to come to Case but is worried about cost, don't withdraw from the UP or CCLCM before you get your financial aid packages in a couple of months. Even though the Case programs are private, they have more aid to give than most public schools do. CCLCM wound up being way cheaper for me than my state school in the end.

How does everyone feel about NEOUCOM? I got an email yesterday with an interview invite, and I'm going to go (I don't have any acceptances yet), but I'm kind of worried about how young the rest of the class is. Does anyone have any statistics on # of interviews for direct entry vs. acceptances?

It's hard to get in via direct entry - especially right away. When I was there they said a lot of people get waitlisted at first. But I just gave up my acceptance!

Anyway, I liked it when I was there. Everyone seemed super supportive and the facilities (didn't see the anatomy lab though) were nice. Good luck!

When did you interview at OSU? They get back to you with an acceptance or rejection pretty darn quick...

Sorry, didn't see your post. I was deferred/waitlisted 🙁. Sending an update letter though 🙂.

i'm an out-of-stater and have an interview at OSU next week that i found out about in early december. (they sure schedule far in advance!) i was just wondering if i have a realistic shot? like someone before me said, i didn't realize we were now into the "only interviewing for the waitlist" time..i was so excited about this interview..and now feel kind of dejected 🙁

I interviewed recently and they told us flat out that no-one interviews for the waitlist. You can get accepted after interviewing on the very last day of the season (and I met someone who did).

Agreed. In fact I think this is a big part of the reason why Ohio State holds so many applicants for later review. Case has a similar policy.

If any of you guys hears back from Toledo, either a yes or no, could you let us know when you got contacted and when you interviewed as well? I'm just trying to gauge how soon I will hear back from them. I called today, Tue 2/5 and Kelly told me they met today but for an interview group from more than a month ago! Geez, they are not quick at all!

good luck to everyone waiting to hear back from toledo!

I've started a class of 2012 thread for Toledo in the Allopathic forum (look for the class threads section). So if you are going there you can ask questions about the school, city, and living arrangements.

There are also threads there for other ohio med schools.

Here is a link: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/forumdisplay.php?f=135

Hmm... I had almost forgotten about this thread...

I got an invite from OSU last week for March 12th (their last day of interviews). I heard once that they interview people in the order that they're interested in them, but I've also heard of people getting accepted outright on the last day of interviews. Any thoughts on this?

RunShare: I have personally spoken to a current med student who had an interview on the last day. She said that she got accepted like a day or two later but that's probably because her interview was so late in the month. Though, an OSU adcom told me that they do tend to interview stronger candidates earlier rather than later, but I'm sure most schools do something similar.

Has anyone been accepted to OSU recently? If so, when did you interview/get accepted? Do they typically stay within their "you'll hear back within 10 days" thing?

I didn't interview lately (back on 10/25 or so), but I got an acceptance email 11/14...so that was about a three week turnaround for me...I hope you hear back something good soon!!

Custard: Although I didn't interview there recently (early October), it seems they have been doing a pretty decent job of sticking to that quick turnaround time on decisions throughout most of the process....hope you hear some good news soon so we can both go there next year seeing as CCLCM didn't want either of us!!

UofM u gotta email telling u got accepted? that's kinda nerve wrecking...just check ur email one day and all of a sudden they tell u. I'd go freaking insane lol

Haha yeah I guess you can look at it that way...they sent an email saying an acceptance letter would come in the mail a few days later...but really, it isn't so much different than all the schools with status pages which might send you an email to alert you to a status change....but doesn't say whether it is good or bad....you just have to be brave enough to check and see what pops up!! In general though, just about everything about this app process makes you go insane IMO...the waiting to get marked complete...the waiting for secondaries...the waiting for possible interviews...the waiting for decisions...then waitlists...man it is crazy!!

did anyone else out there get rejected from Cinci yesterday/today? Sweet!!!

Yo dudes...

I know this is weird but I got accepted to the University of Toledo COM Class of 2013 lol.

Good luck to everyone else applyin to Ohio schools!

How did you manage to be in the class of 2013 already?

Hey, Looks like we both got in...Congrats! I'm pretty sure I'll be accepting soon...Toledo just really impressed me with the facilities and how the students seem so satisfied with the profs, administration, and fellow classmates. I was still up in the air debating med school vs. grad school before my interview, but I think Toledo really reassured me that med school is the right choice.

I GOT INTO OSU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (interviewed on Jan 28th) 😍

ha congrats back at ya

UT is kickass, I can't think of goin n e where else. Everyone is sweet over there and I already know a bunch of people so I guess I'll fit in well.

Besides there's no pt going through all that process and then having to pay $1,500 to get out of it.

What was ur name btw? What undergrad?

See ya over the summer.

Yes congrats custard!! Know you've been waiting on that one!! Be seeing you at second look?

For sure. I do live in Columbus after all 🙂 Let me know if you have questions about the town.

How does OSU rank among your offers so far?

Yah I was seriously impressed with everything Toledo has to offer. I don't necessarily want to post my name I'll PM you, but I was the long haired brunette from University of Akron.

For people who interviewed at Wright State: does your status change online once they make a decision on your file post-interview?? I'll be coming up on the targeted date that they said decisions would be released, so I just wanted to know if it would be worth it to check my status page, or just check the mailbox. Thanks!

Does anyone know if Wright State is still giving out interviews?
