Hi,

I just finished interviewing at Summa Health Systems in Akron, OH. Very good program. Does anyone have information on Akron General or Case Western (Metro Health)?

I interviewed at them both. Both have great setups and great benefits (moonlighting especially). Akron seems a bit more cush than most other programs. Good food in the cafeteria... like I said, very cush program. MetroHealth, I ranked pretty high on my list (4th). Strong clinical experience, I thought, I spent a few hours in the ED.

Q, DO

Hey everyone,

Here's some interesting info on my Ohio experience:

Applied to 26
Interview offers at 24 (Including Pitt, UVA, Carolinas, UNC; ie competitive programs)
Never heard a word from Akron General or SUMMA.

Guess the city of Akron has been warned about me.

Dwgs.

Summa, AGMC and METROHEALTH are all very good programs and I ranked them all highly last year.

Summa--a little bigger program with a focus on academics for the interns with assigned reading and quizzes. The attendings are great and you will have face time with all of them as you present every case to an attending. Benefits are good at both akron hospitals. Trauma is mostly blunt but you'll go to Shock Trauma for a month to bolster your experience. Last year didn't fill due to interviewing too few prospects but a solid program with some well known people in the field!

AGMC--another community program (the oldest they say) with some other big names in EM. Faculty really love to teach. Trauma again is done at Shock trauma and I think also a month at Metro in Cleveland is still on the books. BENEFITS are hard to match!

METRO--innercity cleveland with some months at "THE WORLD FAMOUS CLEVELAND CLINIC FOUNDATION" A different patient population, huge into ultrasound and aeromed. Again some important people in EM.

I had to get out of Ohio but would've been happy and well educated at any of the above!

I'm going to dig this thread up for the 08-09 season.

Sounds like Summa Health and Metrohealth come well recommended.

Anyone have thoughts on St. Vincent's/Toledo and U of Toledo?

i'm a resident at St. V's. happy to answer questions about the program or toledo area.

At St. V's you are graded on a point system which incorporates your grades, board scores, interview score, and your rotation score if you rotated there. Rotating there gives you quite a few points. I don't know if people know about this.

Bump...

Can anyone offer any advice about Case Western/Metro Health vs. Ohio State vs. St. Vincent's?

Thanks.

I am a resident at St V's. PM me if you have specific questions. i'll post specifics on V's if anyone out there wants to hear it
