I am going to OSU in the fall. If you are too, post here.
Are you an Ohio resident? - I personally think that you will be attending one of the best clinical schools in the country, not being bias or anything - since I am from Ohio - I have been to many good schools, and think the professors from OSU are up-there when it comes to the respect and recognition they get from others in the profession.ktrain315 said:I am going to OSU in the fall. I hope I join you for the class of 2009, just waiting to hear from the school, since they deferred my application 🙄 ... which kinda sucks when you applied early, and got deferred 😡 . This year have been intensively competitive.... the avergae GPA's of people interviewed so far, was about 3.6, and 19+ DAT. If you didn't make it to the averages (like me), they would put you on hold (defer you)... and review your file again once they are done with all the interviews.
Anyways, Congratulations, you have proved to be competitive at OSU's DDS program, you earned it.
Good Job. 👍
That's funny, and again.. you earned it, I was in your interview group, we might have met that Saturday morning.ktrain315 said:Yes, I am an Ohio resident. I'm actually surprised I got accepted so quickly...I turned in my application to AADSAS Aug. 28, took my DAT in early October, had my OSU interview Dec. 4, and found out I got in on Dec. 7. My gpa is well below average, 3.09, and my science gpa is about 2.9. DAT scores are 19/19/19. Tons of volunteering and research experience though. Thanks for the congrats.
DDS2BE said:Guys, I have interview at OSU scheduled on Jan 8. Should I even bother going there since so many of you got on deferral list? Not like I'd really like to go there, its just the price tag difference makes OSU appealing 🙂
Do they still have spots open, or they simply put everyone after Dec 1 on deferral, unless one has 4.0 GPA and some crazy DAT score?
I have my research published in National Aquatic and tons of volunteering, 3.30 sci and 18/19/20 DAT.

It seems like that the school told everyone who got deferred (some of these guys had 3.6+ GPA, 3.5+ Sci and 19+ DAT's) that they didn't make it to the cut-offs the admission committee uses, to decide who gets in. Looks like your volunteering and research experience were strong determinant factors on the acceptance. That shows - stats are not the main key to get in... the school averages, 3.5 and 19's, you had other things to make up for some of the weaknesses.
Did you apply with a degree?
DDS2BE said:Ahmm... I don't really wanna go to OSU, but the price difference is over $120,000 in comparison to Case. I hate myself for saying this 😡 , but I should not have been given OSU interview offer as it put me in this position of choosing a d-school based on its price, not my taste.
Mo007: I still haven't paid the deposit yet. It must be submitted by Jan 18.
As best as I can tell - I was very confident that we would both make it after the interviews, didn't we? 🙄 . I guess the admission committe felt that we were the students they were looking for at some level, but thought that - we would be guarenteed a spot if January applicants fail to impress.... that's the whole idea of having the "deferred" list. Techinically, it's a partial acceptance list. Currently, there are less than 20 people on the deferred list - all of them from the 12/4 interview, and this list will be used to fill the class by January 31st (if spots are still open). My guess is, the class (for residents, 78 seats) is only half-full at this time, at the most, plus 60-65 more residents to be interviewed in January... throw in some rejections for the January resident applicants (not wishing anyone a bad luck or anything 😀), and some acceptances for applicants who will end up going somewhere else (like DDS2BE, 😉 ). Let's wait and see.HangOnSloopy said:i'm in the same situation as Mo, OSU is my first choice too and I'm waiting till the end of January too. I was also at the Dec 4th interview ktrain, if you dont mind send me your name in a private message, we might have met.

Thanks, you know anyone else attending OSU?ktrain315 said:Mo and Sloopy, you guys are both fine. You have nothing to worry about.

I met couple of people who got accepted to OSU, but decided to get elsewhere.
ktrain315 said:No, I don't know anyone else going here.
Not yet... whenever I call the admission office, I get a short vague answer. I think the school is now at the stage to select best qualified residents, and will notify all deferred applicants by February 1st.ktrain315 said:I was wondering that too? You still waiting to hear?

futureDr_Jon said:So someone, hopefully you, will be getting an offer of admission very soon.
futureDr_Jon said:I got a message on my answering machine from OSU on Tuesday asking me to call back admissions. This suprised me because I had sent the withdrawal of my acceptance, in the mail, on the 12th. When I called today they said that they couldn't find it and that they needed me to email them with an official decline of the offer of admission before they offered the seat to someone else. So someone, hopefully you, will be getting an offer of admission very soon. Good luck, I would have loved to go to OSU, in my opinion it is an awesome school.
Congrats!IUGirl29 said:I'm going to OSU in the fall too!
Don't ask me the name of the adcom memeber.... but... OSU has already offered 90 acceptances, and so far, as of today, only 32 have paid their deposits (36%). 😕HangOnSloopy said:I'm still hoping to be there with you quake, only about a week or so till I find out 🙂 I'm cautiously optimistic, we'll see what happens
Not everyone has your preferences... 😀 (lucky you! - did you pay your OSU deposit?)quakinator said:Can't believe you're choosing Creighton over OSU 🙂 To everyone his own. I'm stoked to go to OSU!

Called the admissions office yesterday morning, and here is how things stand - as far as resident acceptances.
- 32/65 accepted residents paid their deposit (41% of the DDS class).
- 60 (all residents) are on the deferred list. 🙄
- 40 (mostly residents) to be interviewd this weekend.
- Decisions on the deferred list by 1/31/05.
Good Luck to all those who are waiting... 👍
I will call...dentalguy said:wow and only six days till we find out.......I'm getting pretty nervous and excited myself......is anyone going to call on the first of Feb to find out or is it better to wait?
The tuition thing.... true. The Candidate said:I am just curious, for those planning to attend OSU, did you give a second thought about attending OSU. I know the tuition is very attractive, but the facility and the school in general... that's another issue.
Just curious.

The last interview date is: Ø JANUARY 29, 2005
Then Admissions Committee meets, Decision letters are mailed to selected applicants (including those who were on the deferred list - if there some seats still to fill): Ø January 31, 2005
As of today...ktrain315 said:I called after my interview. Everyone does. Sunny doesn't mind at all really (Atleast I don't think). And yeah, you'll get a letter either way. There is some osu website that you can check the status of your application, and it is very up-to-date...
https://newman.uts.ohio-state.edu/admissions/appstat/Adm_AppStatus.cfm
Tuesday morning after my interview I checked it and it said that a decision had been made, but it does not tell what the decision is...I called the office, and they told me I was accepted. The dental school dosn't really advertise that link...I found it through the vetmed webpage.
That makes a good sense. Adcoms meet today, decisions will take time to reach the secretary anyways.HangOnSloopy said:I'm leaning towards calling tomorrow afternoon, I dont think you'll find out anything today.

Good luck man... I know you will make it.
hey ppl... the waiting should be over today,HangOnSloopy said:Good luck to you guys too, I'm gonna be home all night and plan on checking my status on that website a few times, if it changes for you guys please let us know. If it changes from "deferred/alternate" to "decision" then its a very good sign, but then again, if it doesnt change we won't know if we're alternates or if they just havent updated it.
