Thanks
When I interviewed last year they mentioned they were going to be updating the pre-clinic lab. However, I dont think they were planning on getting dent sims or anything like that.
I got an email on 09-07-04 that invited me for an interview for the 2nd of October.

Yes, they are interviewing, sorry that they told you they weren't. I have heard from many that they interview the out-of-state applicants first so maybe they aren't interviewing the in-state applicants yet.

According to the information posted on that page, quackinator is right. The schedule does not differentiate in-state and out-state interviews. Here is a copy of the schedule.toothcaries said:my guess is most of yall know this website..

Are you an Ohio resident? And what were your stats like?
He is already attending OSU...DDS2BE said:Are you an Ohio resident? And what were your stats like?
OSU has 6 scheduled interview dates, according to their interview schedule, how big is the group that are being interviewed the same-day? - It sounds like OSU chooses when you should attend an interview.
Also, if anyone has the stats for the incoming Class of 2008?

it seem each year the numbers keep increasing and increasing...

All I have is the GPA, no DAT info. The class of 08 overall GPA is 3.6 and the science GPA is 3.5
Are you seeeeeerious? 😱arns51 said:All I have is the GPA, no DAT info. The class of 08 overall GPA is 3.6 and the science GPA is 3.5
Last year it was 3.47... now 3.6?? I hope that entering class is exceptional, because OSU's M.D. program entering class has the same GPA!
Do you think someone with 3.45 GPA and 3.4 Sci, with DAT 17-18-17 (AA-TS-PAT), Ohio resident, with no interview invite (yet!), has a chance at this point? 😀
By the way Arns, when did you get your interview last year, and when did you find out you got in? I am starting to worry with no interview invite yet at this point as an Ohio resident. I hope the interviews are not booked up till January, because I don't want to start waiting on the edge.
Ya, the GPA made a big jump this year. You still have a chance, I wouldnt worry too much yet, your DAT is a bit lower than you would want it though. I interviewed last year in October and then found out Dec. 1st. Your an Ohio resident so you have a huge advantage, dont worry.

Not for OSU... 1st time applicant.toothcaries said:were u a re-applicant?
The bar for admission is probably raised to new all time high0, maybe a remainder how bright the future of Dentistry is. The GPA for matriculants should average-out, I was told the non-residents raise the GPA a lot, or it would have been around 3.3.
By the way... I am a minority applicant.

I heard OSU was initially planning to start interview schedules in August. But due to low # applications coming in during summer, they pushed the schedules back 1 month (late September).
It's also interesting to know that OSU is focusing on out-staters in the early stages of the interview process (because of higher stats?)... is that right?

Why do you wanna go to OSU so badly? I am sure there is something else behind that price tag ?. 😉
Yeah... Thought Case is your first choice of school.
Don't forget to watch the Vice Presidential Debate tonite. It happens at Case. They closed the dental school early today for this event.

Just finnished watching the debate. I don't have any intentions of bringing the politics crap here, but am going to vote for sure!!!!! 😀
I guess I can't hide it. 😀DDS2BE said:Mo007

Let's get the facts straight here folks... We all have a school that we would like to see ourself attending over others if we could... so, maybe OSU is the school that I would like to see me going. But that doesn't mean it's my #1 choice, since I havent been interviewed there yet... I will probably decide just like everyone else when I am done with all the interviews.
Besides tuition, I have a family here in Columbus, all my close friends are here, there is a good feel about Columbus (football, town-style setting), I have been here for a long time... and the living cost is really good deal if you are a student here 👍. I would say location is probably the most important factor I am considering over everything else.
Speaking of politics... substance and style is what we want here in Ohio. 😉

How does OSU look at an applicant with currently 3 yrs college work, and can earn a degree before 1st year of dental school starts (if he/she gets in).
IS 3 years of college work a huge disadvantage on the applicant? - do you know anyone who got into OSUCOD with less than 4 years of college work?
Thanks

As far as I know they're still reviewing and interviewing. They seem to be sticking to the schedule Mo posted, so we'll see what happens. Its definatley my #1 school, if I get in there and rejected everywhere else I'll still be thrilled (I was an alternate last year and I had one of the final interview days, so don't be discouraged anybody).

Well... people who were already interviewed reported that a very few in-staters have been invited for interview within the last couple of interview dates. Considering OSU is an in-state school, maybe they are selecting their out-staters early in the process. But, my guess is as good as yours. 😀

I spoke with the OSU admissions office and although I still haven't gotten an official letter, Dr. Haring confirmed that they have put me in the Dec. 4th slot for an interview. Apparently the in state applicants were down this year from last and from what I gathered almost all Ohio residents will get a shot to interview. THere is such a lopsided advantage to being an in state resident for OSU COD, so i'm sure you have a good chance. I'd suggest you give them a call and confirm that they have everything they need. I know in my situation Ohio St was the only school that was holding my application as incomplete for minor things even though I had already received invites from other dental schools.
You had asked for my statistics and here they are:
I am an Ohio resident
average gpa: overal cum (3.3) science cum (3.1)
DAT: AA: 19...PAT: 18
lots of dental experience...(dental assistant and lots of shadowing)
dad went to osu cod (wish this gave me an advantage, but unfortunately public dental schools dont care that much)
give me a holler if you have any more questions

I also have an interview and heard from OSU about two weeks ago. I am an ohio resident and mine is on their next date, Nov 6th. My friend interviewed there on Oct 2nd and reported that he was only one of the very few in-state-residents. I am wondering if this will also be the case on Nov 6th. We will see.

I'm out of state, so I'll guess I'll see you then.

P.S. The average GPA of people who have been interviewed at OSU so far is 3.6/3.7... maybe due to majority being out-staters. Dr. Haring told me that the adcoms use a ranking system... does anybody know how this works?
