I just got an invitation from OSU this morning!!!

Does anyone know what kinds of questions they ask?

and

What percentage of the people who got an interview get an admission?
(What about NYU? becase I also had an interview from NYU last month)

my stat
GPA:3.4
AA:20 - Chem:23 Bio:20 Org:19 Math:21 Reading:18
PAT:23

ohio state's interview is pretty relaxed and laid back although I think that multiple mini interviews process they use is a little strange. basically you will talk to 5 different people one on one for 10 minutes each with a 2 min break inbetween. I think each person is supposed to focus on a different area of your application but I got asked a few repeat questions, although some of the other applicants i talked to didnt (i guess it depends on your file). as for the questions they ask you can expect the basics about why you want to be a dentist, why are you interested in dentistry, and general questions about your extracurriculars and leadership experiences.

some of the more interesting questions i was asked...

define integrity and how do you incorporate it into your daily life?
do you consider dental care to be a right or priviledge?
do you prefer to work in a group or by yourself? and when working in a group would you rather be the leader or follow instructions?

i hope this helps. good luck with your interview

Do they ask about obsevation hrs?
because i didn't really learn anything.🙁

I wasn't asked about ob hours. The 5 topics were: Academics, Extracurricular/Volunteering, Misc (things that prove you have hand skills, do you want to specialize), and two students who just chatted with me.

It was very laid back, I talked to one professor about Buckeye football for 8 of the 10 minutes.

At the Nov 8th interview they interviewed what seemed like ~40 ohio applicants. The Dec 6th interview is all Ohio, so thats 60 more. Total of 100 ohio applicants for 76 ohio seats.. there ya go. I think they ranked the applicants prior to inviting for interviews, so the 'top 40' ohio students were invited for Nov 8th, so the last 60 are really fighting for ~40 seats...

Good luck and enjoy the day, it's not bad at all

This was my favorite interview I went to. They treat you really good and I hope I get in.

Kimnewcom are you in state? or do you have research experience?

The last interview is all in-state, so I'd say he/she is

i think your second question can be answered on the website. its very detailed and well organized. and theres this pdf http://dent.osu.edu/admissions/Example_Interview_Questions.pdf

Congratulations on receiving an interview!!!! My November 8th interview was very laid back and relaxing, as odd as that may seem. The OSU dental students and faculty members were so positive and answered any questions I had. The interview was in a mini-interview format where you went into a room with 15 other applicants. Individual interviews consisted of five ten minute sessions with each member of the three faculty members and two D3 or D4 student team. Basically, they wanted to know why you want to be a dentist, what you do in your free time, and any other experiences you have to share that has shaped you into the person you are. I talked a lot about my research experience and volunteer work. Do not stress though, they just want to get to know you!! Hope that helps!! Good luck everyone!!!!!!

so, how do i know if i got in or not?

do they send you an email, post it on AADSAS, or send you a letter?
(including the announcement on December 1st for NYU)

They will try to call you Monday, December 8th after they deliberate on Sunday. If they can not reach you by phone I don't think they leave a message. They also send an email just like the one you got for your interview, AND a letter in the mail.

So... all three ;-)

Good luck

they rank their applicants before the interview??!!!
i wonder what my rank is.
since 40 instate applicants were already invited in november, december interview must be for those between rank#40-100.
with my stat, it shiould be like 90? :scared:i doubt im gonna get in.🙁

Don't take that attitude, you'll be fine! They wouldn't invite you for an interview unless they were serious. Let me try to put your mind at ease:

Lets say the top 20 Ohio applicants are really off the charts. They will be accepted at out-of-state schools. Maybe half of them decide to go out of state, so 10. That leaves 90 ohio applicants for 76 spots. Now maybe another 10 bomb the interview, or are too nervous and don't open up (Avoid this! This is the #1 problem with being scared). The applicants in any one interview have stats so close, so it really does come down to the interview. You don't have much ground to 'make up' at the interview, just be yourself and have a good time.

Last year around 9 ohio students got in off the waitlist. Anyone with an interview at OSU has a good chance to get in, just try not to freak out 🙂

Besides, I am not so sure I believe the the GPA average that they are giving in that letter. The ADA lists last years average GPA of the D1 class at OSU as 3.52 with a science GPA of 3.39. The average DAT was just under 19. I think the numbers given in the letter are a little exagerated at best. I know someone with a 18 on the DAT and a GPA of 3.5 that got in on the first day of acceptances. Unless they have seriously changed how they run the admissions process in the last year, I don't see this class having over a 3.7 GPA. (OSU is one of top choices)

the ADA is wrong. I've had several chats with OSU admissions counselors and we've gone over the numbers. See my response to Roto in the Ohio State Rejection Letter thread.
