Hi everyone, I'm grateful to have multiple MD acceptances, but I'd love some outside input because I like the program at OSU better and have a support system there, but I'm worried that Einstein might be an opportunity that is too good to pass if it's the better option later on as I apply to residency. I'm leaning towards doing internal med-cardio, but I would like to keep my options open. In terms of the curriculum, I believe both schools are P/F for 1.5 years of preclinical and graded for clinical. Let me know your thoughts and/or if there are other things I should consider, both good and bad. Thanks!!

OSU: about $160k COA for 4 years
Pros:
-numerous facilities for specialized care, new inpatient hospital opening next year
-robust and integrated ultrasound program in the curriculum that could stand out on applications
-earlier + more clinical exposure through the curriculum and free clinics
-pretty familiar with the school and curriculum as a lot of friends + SO go here

Cons:
-generally matches to slightly lower ranked and more regional (midwest) residency programs
-higher cost

Einstein: about $80k COA for 4 years
Pros:
-Montefiore cardiology is more well known clinically?
-testing is always on Fridays following a rotating exam/quiz/break pattern so I have a set schedule
-proximity to other NY hospitals and matches to better programs in NY/east coast

Cons:
-in the Bronx and relatively limited things to do in the vicinity of the campus (food desert)
-heard negative things about residency programs in NY
-facilities aren't as good

It sounds like you have some support system in Ohio, but other than that, Einstein is the better option. The difference in COA with debt is cumulative and substantial. Both are fantastic programs, but Einstein's reputation is especially strong and continues to grow.

Einstein's IM matches are great (for the east coast, but it is also a top feeder program to UCLA IM, and just matched a student to a Stanford global health IM residency with 2 spots a year) and has a similar early free clinic exposure that you mentioned for OSU. If you can see yourself thriving in a new environment, I think it's the better choice.

Einstein seems like a no-brainer at first because of the lower cost and it's a decent school, but I have a pretty strong support system at OSU since my SO+multiple friends are current students there so I would have a relatively easier time in med school. Hence why I'm still debating between the two schools because it essentially comes down to support/happiness vs cost and I'm not sure which is the more important factor to consider.
