Hey guys, I need to make a quick decision on OHSU. I have attended 9 interviews and have 4 more to go. I am in the middle of the country and most of these interviews have been on the coasts meaning 6+ hour flights 2x a week since the end of October. I am physically drained. I am trying to decide if I should add another trip to make it to OHSU. From what I have read it seems to be an amazing program with great faculty and training. The only thing is my fiancee will be entering the match in 2018 and OHSU being the only residency in portland means its going to be very difficult for us to end up together. Knowing this I am not sure where I would effectively put it on my rank list even though it seems like an amazing program. I am just looking for some opinions on this.

I would go, but Casey was one of my top choices. Didn't interview at OHSU, but my s.o. did in a different specialty. We had the same thoughts about issues matching near each other (and we went to school on east coast). Also, the ophthalmology program is disproportionately good compared to most specialties at OHSU, depending on what he/she chooses. Ultimately it's up to you. If you have a good list of programs (which you must if you landed Casey), and you don't see yourself going there, then you could consider not going. Someone like me would've loved that spot 😉. There's always fellowship :xf:

Yea its super tough. If I was single I would go in a heartbeat. I would love to live in Portland, thats definitely my kind of city. I definitely am happy with my current rank options at this point and part of me feels that I should let the spot go to someone else who doesn't have doubts about ranking the place highly. I'm just worried I'll regret it later and not sure if an extra 700 dollars plus 2 days of lost time is worth peace of mind.

As a current interviewer I can relate to the exhaustion. With that being said OHSU is an impressive program. The residents appeared extremely happy on Interview date. Portland is an extremely unique place and population. I have few doubts there are prettier places in the country when the sun is out, however there were only about two hours when it wasn't raining during my stay. Surgeries appear above national average and the program offers many research opportunities.

I don't expect this to have answered your question. For me I am glad I went.
