I really shocked, OHSU is one of my top schools. I thought my GPA and MCAT score are not bad. This is my first rejection, I know that during this process I eventually will recieve some rejection, but when I actually receive one, it really hurts.

Anyone in the same boat? I hope not, I wish all of you guys will get interviews, one rejection is bad enough.

I just got my "complete" card in the mail on 11/15. I'm sure I'll get rejected too. How are your stats? How long did it take you to hear back? Shake it off, Portland sucks anyway 😀

Those dudes haven't even sent me my postcard, so perhaps I am going to be rejected via skywriting or singing telegram. Sorry, aspiring, it is a painful thing to face. I always feel like "you don't even know me! Get to know me and you will love me as much as I do!"

thank you for all of your kind words.
My stats? GPA: 3.9, GPA (Science): 3.94
Took 2 MCATs and manage to pull verbal from a 6 to a 10
April MCAT: 6 VR, 10 PS, 10 BS
AUgust MCAT: 10 VR, 10 PS, 8 BS

My stats aren't that bad, right? Consider English is my second language. My MCAT kind of low, but with my GPA, that would compensate for it ? Am I right?

Anyway, I wish you two will get OHSU's interviews soon before Christmas, that would be nice, right?

I might get something from OHSU, but I'm guessing it will be sharp and phallic. No way it will be an interview. My postcard said to expect a 12 week wait...seriously.

I completed my secondary early October, so around 7-8 weeks, no, it would be sooner than 12 weeks

How did you find out about your rejection? snail mail?

hey aspiringdoctor, when did you receive a complete postcard from them?

I hear OHSU really likes clinical experience. I'm screwed because I have a lot of research experience and just a little bit of clinical work.

I received the yellow card 2 weeks after I submitted my secondary and 6 weeks later, I receive this rejection letter (through snail mail)

Are you an Oregon resident? Or in a WICHE state? If not, you shouldn't feel as bad -- they hardly accept anyone from out of state!

No, I'm out of state applicant. I guess I am not destined to become OHSU student. Good luck to any SDNer's applying there. Hopefully you guys will receive interviews invite, then acceptances soon.

Considering the class of 2008 is 70% out-of-state, I'm going to disagree with this statement. Ever since their budget crunches over the years, they have been accepting more and more out-of-state applicants.

Yeah, the class has been >50% out-of-state for many years now. As for "what they look for" in applicants, that's a difficult question, as they don't appear to look for any particular thing in everybody, but rather try to get a mix of people. I, for example, had virtually zero clinical experience coming in but ample research. (One day of shadowing was my entire clinical resume.) Some of my classmates had zero research but lots of clinical experience. Some were considerably older than average. Some were not yet of drinking age. While this does lead to great variety of people (except that they're all white or Asian), it also seems as if they have a quota for each particular "type" of applicant. Therefore a research-oriented individual might be rejected, not so much because they don't have a lot of clinical experience, but because they've already settled on as many research-oriented indviduals as they want in the class. Mind you, this is not even remotely an official policy but merely how it appears to me.

Hey, don't feel so bad. I just got my first rejection today too. SUNY Downstate. One of my state schools, and I'm from Brooklyn too. Oh well. Everything that happens happens for a reason. I figure it's one out of 20 schools I applied too, I still havve 19 more chances to get in somewhere. And really, you only need one acceptance.

you are right. we only need one acceptance. Make our wish come true

Just to throw this out there, our class ('09) is ~60% in-state, reversing the trend of previous years. No idea if this will continue, but I think it has something to do with how they managed to retain their state funding this past year (it was going to be cut in half and our tuition was going to go up to >$30K/yr in-state, but then it was restored to its original level). It seems highly probable to me that OHSU took more OR residents to make the state more amenable to restoring this funding, although I have no official word on this. If this is the case and they continue to take more in-state residents, it could affect the out-of-staters who are applying now. Good luck to those still waiting to hear, OHSU is a great school and contrary to the earlier opinion someone posted, Portland rocks.

Plus, we'd never let them build an aerial tram to that new building if they didn't take mostly in-state students.

Side note: my rejection letter from OHSU this year had the male symbol/smiley face on it. Weird ehh?

It was just a joke...I should have said the Blazers suck 😱

Good ole Portland Jailblazers! 😉

I love Portland, and definitely could have lived there. Ah yes, but the gods of med school are at times a quirky bunch! My interview went horrid at OHSU, I got waitlisted....then I withdrew and came out here to TN. You know what? I couldn't be happier.

Mistress...quick question: How is that block schedule working out for you? I'm on traditional out here, and these 19 week semesters are KILLING me.
