I was fully prepared and excited to go to VCU but I just got off the OHSU waitlist and now I’m torn. I just need to know if I’m stupid for wanting to go to a lower ranked school just to get our of my hometown.

OHSU (IS)

Pros:

-P/F grading all four years

-More research opportunities

Cons:

-In the city that I’ve lived in my whole life. I know that should be a pro but there’s just a part of me that was ready to go out.

VCU (OOS)

Pros:

-Not in Portland

-25k/year cheaper than OHSU

Cons:

-P/F/H in preclinical and H/HP/P/F in clinicals

-Away from family and friends

It sounds like you'd rather go to VCU. If that will make you happier, and it's cheaper, it seems like that's the choice to make. Ranking doesn't mean a whole lot in my opinion unless you are looking to go to a super top residency. VCU is a good school.

On the other hand, having a support system is huge and very important as well. It depends on what's more important, a support system or getting away and experiencing a new adventure.

Portland has changed a lot over the years so it might be a pleasure to try somewhere else

I personally would not give up OHSU for VCU but it looks like VCU is a much better fit for you. Richmond's a really cool up-and-coming city. I would just look at VCU's match list if you want to match back at the west coast, particularly in a competitive specialty.
