Has anyone heard anything from OHSU lately? I received the "competitive" letter a while back, but I haven't heard from them since.

Right there with ya. Nothing as of yet.

I just had a great interview there today! Don't worry, even they told me it was early in the cycle.

Yeah I was wondering about OHSU as well. Got the "competitive letter" a month and a half ago. It seems like they aren't doing too many pre-dec interviews. Does anyone know anything more about them?

Could you please repeat that? Lol... same thing with me, got the letter forever ago and haven't heard anything since.

Are there any in-state residents who have gotten interview invites yet?

Any update from OHSU? Looking at predents, they might have stopped interviewing in December. Hopefully, they will start scheduling interviews in January.

OOS chances seem pretty grim. I am technically OOS (VA resident) and I haven't heard from them since the "competitive" letter way back when. This is even though I graduated from high school in Oregon, my dad was born in Oregon, my grandfather was the head of ortho at OHSU, my uncle graduated from there with an ortho degree, and my cousin just graduated with the DMD. I spend all my breaks there so I really should be an Oregon resident, but yeah ... no word.

Anyways enough rant, I just got into Maryland so I'll probably just go there.

I have an OHSU interview coming up soon, and I was just wondering if anyone who had interviewed there already could let me know what the day was like? I tried looking under interview feedback, but nothing was coming up for dental school interview feedback. I was just wondering the basic things like how many interviews, who interviews you, open or closed file, any tricky questions or anything like that! Also, does anyone know how much of there class has been filled or what the acceptance percentages are for post-dec interview! Thanks to anyone who can help!

Congrats on getting an interview, from what I've heard it's really low stress and one-on-one. Did you receive a "competitive letter" back before October? I was expecting to hear from them after that but haven't had any updates... I feel like that girl that gets all dressed up for prom and the handsome date never comes 😳

Congrats! I think you'll like it there. Portland is awesome. The school is located on a big hill in the South end of the city. Follow the instructions from the link Mark sends you to get to the school, and allow plenty of time. You'll get there and you may be the only person interviewing. You'll write a short essay beginning exactly at 9 AM (or whatever time they tell you to be there), then Mark will come discuss how the day works. Basically you stay put until a very timely parade of people come and get you and whisk you away. Two one-on-one interviews. I think they were open file. Lunch/tour with a student. You can attend a class. Then, you'll go observe in the clinic. And...I think that's about it. Day ends around 3pm.

A great place to stay if you want to experience a bit of Portland while you're there is the NW International Hostel. It's in the NW corner of the city and is quite a distance from the school, but I made it there in plenty of time. There are tons of cute restaurants and pubs in that area that I would highly suggest checking out. Also the Saturday market.

I did get a competitive letter awhile ago(I don't remember exactly when) and then I never heard anything, so I figured that I wasn't getting an interview. I got an email on New Years Eve for an interview request. It sounds like they still have a lot of spots open! When I called she said I could choose any Mon, Tue, Thurs, Fri starting Jan 6th and going into the end of March.

Thanks golf05 for the info! I'm excited for the interview! I think that my husband and I are really going to love portland!

Sure. Good luck!

Just received letter saying that I was moved from continuous review to the pool that they choose applicants to interview(competitive). Anyone else receive good news?

Hey guys - OHSU is calling for interview offers again! I got an e-mail last night and I called this morning and scheduled the interview! Woooooo finally!! 👍 Thy had openings from this week all the way through February, so I am thinking they will be calling more people asap.

Can anyone who interviewed at OHSU already provide some helpful tips/hints on the essay? I am probably the worst writer in the world so I'm stressing a bit over it.

Thanks, your help is appreciated and good luck to all.

When I had my interview at OHSU, in November, the essay asked me to write about what I do in my free time. It's really pretty straight forward. I don't think they are trying to trick you or make it difficult. As long as you can put complete sentences together with correct punctuation, you should be just fine. Don't be nervous! The entire interview is very laid-back. Be yourself! Good Luck! 👍

anybody else still waiting on OHSU? Do you think we are out-of-luck?🙁

Thanks Beaver, really appreciate your help, hope I'll get to meet you there in August.

I got an interview invite by email yesterday. I am going to cancel it though, so hopefully that will give someone else a chance. I am going to UW for sure.

Good luck everyone!

Bring scratch paper. Write from your heart and personal experiences. Don't worry about what you think they 'want to hear.' They just want to see if you can make complete sentences, spell, and use correct punctuation. I help a prof with grading essays and you would be amazed at how many college students don't know the differences between "then and than", "they're, there and their", and use phrases like "hafta", "could of", "should of", "enuf" and "cause" (instead of because). It doesn't have to be especially creative or awesome-- just make it comprehensible.
Good luck :luck:

Ok, Double good luck :luck::luck:

Has anybody got in recently? How long did it take them to let you know after your interview?

I just got in two weeks ago. I found out 3 days after my interview.

Alright, lets see if anybody has heard anything this week. Especially those who interviewed last week.

I interviewed on January 28th and I received an email on February 1st (in the evening) that I had been accepted. Did you just have your interview this week?

...oops, I guess that means I just got in last week, not two weeks ago!!

I interviewed on Monday, and Mark said they had an admissions meeting today.

How much longer is ohsu doing interviews? I got a "competitive" letter months ago and then have heard absolutely nothing from them.

Well I have not heard anything... did anybody hear anything today?

Hello. I interviewed on 02/05, and received an offer yesterday, 02/11. Email received and AADSAS status changed, but I am still paranoid until I have the official "paper" offer in my hand.

Hope that helps.

See you all in August...!!

Congrats!!! I was the same way when I heard Dec. 1st. Email and AADSAS status change wasn't enough evidence. However, Mark said at my interview that if you receive both an email and your AADSAS changes, 99% chance you're in.

Congrats to you also Lala!!!

I have an interview at OHSU on March 5th. There is hardly any interview feedback on interviews there. Can anyone who previously interviewed give me some insight into what kinds of questions are asked so I can better prepare myself?
Thanks!

The interviews are very laid-back. They ultimately are just trying to figure out who you are as a person and if you are the same person that interested them by your application/personal statement. Be yourself!

The questions were very straight-forward. Both interviewers asked a bunch of questions regarding my application. For example, they asked questions concerning certain aspects of my schooling, research experience(or lack-of in my case), dental experience, DAT scores, and my mission work. Other questions consisted of why I wanted to pursue dentistry, what it means to be healthcare professional, what is a situation where I've shown leadership. My big tip for you is too read your application and personal statement many times and be prepared to answer any questions regarding it.

I interviewed almost 2 weeks ago, but haven't heard anything. Anyone accepted recently?

So if you guys applied last year, would that mean you would start this fall if you're accepted? The whole process and timing confuses me.

Yeah, we applied last Summer('09). Most people apply the end of their Junior year or Senior year. Interviews proceed through the fall/winter/spring. Schools can notify the first accepted students on December 1st. Dental schools then start late Summer or early Fall. For OHSU, we start August 16th.

Anybody hearing anything new this week? I called last week and it sounded like they were going to meet again and possibly do some more interviewing. Holding out hope, but also need to be realistic as a non-resident I suppose...

When I was there last week they said the committee isn't meeting for another 2 weeks so probably around March 26th.
