Does OHSU accept AP Calculus for its math requirement?

OHSU's website says "One mathematics course (not including statistics)"

I took 2 years of calc in HS - 5's on both AP Calc AB and BC - and I don't want to take more calc. I am taking stats right now. Aside from OHSU, should my one course in Stats and AP credit be acceptable at most med schools?

I know this is a really specific question, but I've searched everywhere - including the forums - and no one has brought up OHSU specifically.

Their website doesn't say one way or another anywhere. I've called and left a message - there's no way to speak to a person directly at the admissions office though - they say "due to the large number of calls we receive we can't advise applicants personally. press 1 to leave a message to get an info packet, press 2 to leave a question about your application if you're applying in this admissions cycle"

And yes, I've looked at both the packet and left a message (a couple weeks ago). Believe me, I've tried to find this out.

If they don't say otherwise and it shows up as a class credit on your transcript (i.e., it actually says "Calculus I, CR" on your transcript, not just some nameless 3 hours of math credit), you're probably good. But again, go ahead and call them up, they'll be able to give you a better answer than us, who are really just probably guessing here.

OHSU admissions is notoriously difficult to get in touch with by phone. I had the same question, as I am planning to apply there in the next few years. I finally got an e-mail response from somebody in the office of admissions. This is what I asked:

Are AP credits accepted in order to fulfill the college mathematics requirement for admission to the School of Medicine? Specifically, I have credit for AP Calculus BC.

And this was the response:

Yes, as long as your transcript shows that the AP credit is for mathematics, it will count towards that requirement.

It sounds like you're good to go. Best of luck!

Wow, thanks so much, this has been really helpful!

My only concern from what you said is that, for me, it's on my transcript but my school doesn't give me credit, per se

I know I've seen one med school say they accept AP credit but only if your undergrad school gives you credit. Mine doesn't - they only give you placement and a "T" grade.

Do you think this is problematic?

Again, thanks so much for your replies everyone!

Nope, I think that counts. Basically it's showing you got transfer credit (which doesn't come with a grade) and it explicitly says Calculus, so you should be good to go.

That was my inclination too. I don't think medical schools want to make it too hard on you, I could be wrong, but I'm guessing most would like to be a little flexible once they see that you have the placement already.
