Hi everyone,
I have a two part question:
I)
So I asked my family Doc if I could shadow him, he said he would be happy to, just that he is affiliated thru a large suburban hospital (it is not a teaching hospital) and would need to get approved from them.
So I wanted to know if anyone knows which department should I contact.
II)
my family physician is also is from the same undergrad university, we have a practicum program affiliated thru the same hospital for pre-meds, I was wondering do most schools allow their students to pick their own physicians or do they have their own lectures/physicians?

(I) i think you or your physician needs to first contact the hospital's human resource or the hospital's governing board for an approval.

(II) i don't know if the school allows students to pick their own physicians. i think the school decides. but it never hurts to ask the school if you state the name of the physician whom you want to work/observe under.

I. I would contact the Human Resources department yourself. When I have had to do this, I was just able to contact them and tell them the physician I was to shadow. Then, they just sent me the forms. The physician himself did not need to do anything actually (though I'm sure that ran it by him). They might say the actual doc needs to do it or that someone else needs to approve it. Either way, I would take the initiative and call so you get the ball rolling. These things tend to progress slowly if you wait around to hear what you need to do. Usually, these types of issues are pretty easy to handle.

II. No idea
