Ok, while I am SINCERELY hoping of getting into either Temple or Jefferson for the fall. I have to face reality and start applying for the next cycle.

Quick Summary:
UG GPA is 3.67
BCPM is 3.6
MCAT: 37S (Most recent: 14VR, 12 PS, 11BS) & 32Q (Two years ago 11/10/11)

Background: I quit a Ph.D. program which has left a few "I" grades on my transcript from grad school. They won't be filled in unless I went back to graduate, but I know that path isn't for me (Psychotherapy/Psychological research).

I was very active in UG and Grad school in student groups (President or VP of groups in UG & Grad) have been doing MA since I was 13 and competing at the national level. I have over 200 hours of psychotherapy practice during grad school, most of which was provided on a volunteer basis. I have one publication as 2nd Author in a 2nd tier Psych journal from grad school.

I have 6 months shadowing a PCP provider and have been volunteering since December with the Cancer Navigator at my local hospital. I think my lack of success has to do with this medical exposure coming late in the game for this cycle, so it might be that I'll be applying for 09.

I'm concerned because I got so LITTLE love this cycle and would like some input and direction on where to apply in 09.

So where should I think of for my list?

BTW, UMD = no interview even!

I'm surprised that you didn't have more success in this past cycle considering your high GPA and MCAT score.

You seem like a very qualified applicant. You could try Tulane, EVMS, Wake Forest, GW, Drexel, and definitely any state schools. Maybe work on revamping your personal statement? You certainly have the numbers to get in.

Good luck at Jefferson and Temple! I'm pulling for you!

Your MDApps shows that you withdrew from 5 schools after submitting the secondary. This would certainly diminish your chances. Is there any reason you withdrew?

Due to some family and financial issues, I wasn't able to complete the secondaries. I must've hit the wrong button on MDapps.

Yeah, those secondaries can be CRAZY expensive. I'm just hoping I have enough money saved up by July to be able to do all of mine.

Anyway, I would suggest adding some more schools this time around, specifically ones that have more "average" stats and are welcome to OOS applicants, like VCU, EVMS, NYMC, RFU, etc. Your MCAT is superb and your GPA is good but not stellar. Dropping out of your PhD program is not going to look good, so I would address this in your personal statement. Also I think you have a better chance now that you have some more healthcare experience. I would just make sure to apply broadly and early and you should be okay. Good luck!

Good advice. The ph.d. thing doesn't look good, but I do have a letter of support from the chair of my program agreeing with my decision and praising me in good ways 🙂

BTW,

RFU?

I'm planning on submitting my primary the first day possible.

I just threw those in there as examples. You seem to have a lot of schools in the top 1/3 or so, which isn't necessarily a bad thing - you just need some lower-tier schools too in order to balance it out and increase the likelihood of an acceptance. I wish you the best of luck and hopefully you will hear something any day from Jefferson or Temple. I visited both over spring break this year and absolutely loved Jefferson!

Nothing yet. I'll be applying in the upcoming cycle. Right now I'm just waiting to submit my AMCAS. It's all done and I'm getting antsy to be able to really start the process! (And trying to distract myself by spending wayyyy too much time on SDN, LOL)

Sorry, i just don't know what RFU is....

Personal Statement (Current Draft)

I would advise against putting out your PS for everyone to see. You never know who is going to read it and who may decide to take some of your ideas as their own.

Point taken.

However, there are some really good SDN volunteers who are willing to read your PS. I think there's a sticky thread covering this topic in the pre-allo thread.

I can't comment about the choice of schools because I'm not American and as a Canadian, I applied to the schools that I thought were Canadian-friendly and OOS-friendly (mdapps: 8389). Apply to ALL your state schools as well.

Thanks for taking a look. I understand your position. I only have one in state school (UMD). I'll apply there, but I really want to leave the area. I'm still hoping for Temple (and unrealistically crossing my fingers for Jefferson).

Not as much traffic here as when we were in the pre-allo folder... I'm debating adding UMDNRWJ, but they look pretty low for OOS... any glaring omissions?
