I will be doing a FP Office rotation in December and January. For Christmas, I would be flying home but wondering when to come back, whether he would have office hours on the 26th or not until the 28th (he's off on Wed). Would it be ok to email him and ask what his holiday hours are or is that off-limits until I start the rotation? Thanks

I'd ask. Just tell him you're looking to visit your family for xmas and was wondering if you would have time to fly/drive home to see them.

Totally fair game to ask. I'm surprised your school even has you on rotation over the holidays - we had a vacation at that time and we normally get NOTHING in terms of perks like that. You don't want to get screwed with a more expensive flight and I think everyone understands that. I'd hope that when you ask you are pleasantly surprised with a "oh don't even bother coming in till after New Years!"
😀

Good luck!

We never had scheduled rotations near Christmas.

I would ask and phrase it as "I was wondering so I could buy my plane tickets now".

I've had rotations scheduled and required over July 4th, Thanksgiving, Xmas and new years. Some we've gotten out of by asking. For medicine 1/2 of us got xmas off the other 1/2 got new years. If we were on call, we were required to show no matter what.

Our school has a "If we're closed, you dont work" policy for holidays.

Weekends and overnights not included! 😉
