OK to send update after interview but before results come out in 6 weeks?

Basically the title:

Is it appropriate (or maybe even an advantage) of sending update letters to a school you have just interviewed at and before they give an acc/wtl/rej in a month? Basically sending it in the limbo that the committee is making a decision on your app before their deadline of notice, especially if it is within a short time?

What if the update is not particularly crazy or anything (new publications, etc.), but it still includes significant developments?

Thanks in advance.

absolutely. Combine a thank you letter/letter of interest with your updates, and try to be concise and have this all within a page. Some schools this can help a ton, some schools don't really care at all, and some are the in the middle. Might as well try.

I personally wouldn't. Frankly, the most value of an update letter is that most schools will rereview your file after you send one. The more times your file is reviewed the more likely it is that someone will like you and you will receive an acceptance.

Its most advantageous to always wait until something happens to your file before sending an update letter - that way your file gets reviewed again. If you send it now, you're not getting yourself and extra review - you're just giving them something extra to look at.

I kind of disagree... If you're a student who would normally be towards the top of a waitlist post-interview and you send them an update it could bump you up to an acceptance.

If you still get waitlisted, you can always send another update, no?

+1 on the keep it short advice though

Most people run out of stuff to say.

If you were already that close to an acceptance waiting for the extra review is more likely to help you than hurt you.

I got into the school I attend based on LOIs, so I'm just saying based on my experience. Of course the mileage is going to vary depending on who happens to read your file and how that particularly school functions. But in general, I think you're better off waiting for fear of having nothing else to add.

I once handed an update letter to the admissions office an hour after my interview lol. The nice lady in the admissions office even printed it out for me.
