This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Still jacking other people's threads, I see, Its Z. This thread is NOT about you, you narcissistic a-hole.

To the OP: I'm happy for you! Good luck in your future endeavors! You definitely made the right decision for you 😉

Wow! Speaking of people who have quit pharmacy and changed careers! Loo have you been around and I just missed you? Are you a full fledged pharmacist vet?

Oh and page 4 biatches!

I put Z on ignore for this reason.

They haven't criticized you to your face. Its called being polite. As I have said before you are a strange little person. You seem more concerned that everyone else is happy with your decision. You do not seem to be happy with it. As evidenced by your random posts where you get all happy that you have a job possibility then when it falls through you are back trying to convice everyone you are happy working a $8 an hour job when you could be making over $50.

You don't know me, 'K? I did the right thing for me, and honestly, I'm surprised at how much support I've gotten for this decision. The only criticism, and that's not really the right word, has come from people outside the health care field who say, "But doesn't that pay really well?" Yes, it does, and not enough for me to ruin my health.

No, I do not know you nor does anyone else on an anoymous internet forum. Therefore all we have to go on is what you post. I stand by my post.

Jeez, you're like so ignorant mmmkay, like not knowing people on here and stuff. It's like totally ignorant kinda and like really not cool. You should have made like more of an effort and all to get to know people.

I think Mountain's point is that you seem to seek validation for your decision on here and post stuff that sounds like you are still waffling. You don't need to have the approval of people in your life, nor do you need approval from all of us random internet people. As long as you are happy with your decision and financially healthy, that is all that should matter! :luck:

I am very sensitive and it hurts my feelings that someone would suggest I did not try to get to know them and understand thier feelings. Can't we all just get along?

That is an accurate interpretation of my post.

I just find it odd she is on here one day telling us how everyone thinks what she has done is great and she is soooo happy working an $8 an hour job. Then the next day she is all 😍😍😍😍 gushing about how excited she is to have a pharmacy job interview and hope it goes well. Then to come back a few days later to tell us she didnt get the job but thats okay because she really loves working for $8 an hour and everyone tells her how she has made the right decision. Then a few weeks later it starts all over.

There is really no point to my post which fits in with 99% of what I post on here. Just making an observation I guess. If you post on an anoymous forum you should be ready for people to make some honest comments on what you post.

Blah blah....but I'm the only one who got called an ******* by op's internet lover! :meanie:

I put Z on ignore for this reason.

Nah....you don't have me on ignore and even if you did, its not because I threadjack or I can be an insensitive bastard. You would like more than anything for me to support your position. However I don't and at the same time I criticize it....therefore youd like to put me on ignore. But you know you can't.

I have never said or done anything that you describe.

As for seeking validation, that's not what I started this thread for. I simply did it to say what I had done, and why. Good grief, nurses and teachers do it all the time; why can't pharmacists?

Wow! Speaking of people who have quit pharmacy and changed careers! Loo have you been around and I just missed you? Are you a full fledged pharmacist vet?

Yep, dude, it is I, the drug-dealin' Dr. Doolittle. 😉 .I check in from time to time. I see you might have left the Seventh Circle of H*ll (aka retail/community pharmacy) yourself as well ? I base this on your "PBM's Rock" sig. If so, I am happy for you also. You're a good guy and I have a lot of respect for ya. Keep on keeping it real, man.

In all honesty, I'm not gonna pick apart anyone's reason for leaving a career because for one, it's a little frightening to walk away from a steady source of income (especially in this economy); and secondly, it's none of my business WHY somebody does what they do. It's pretty freakin' brave to discuss your reasons why, knowing that folks on a forum will either praise or condemn you for it. Whatever.

I wish all of you career-seekers and changers well! It takes a lot of intestinal fortitude to follow through with your goals. 😉

I am very sensitive and it hurts my feelings that someone would suggest I did not try to get to know them and understand thier feelings. Can't we all just get along?

Correction. I just lost all respect for you. You've gone soft...unacceptable 😉

Out of retail for 3 months and I have lost my edge!

So has it worked out for you? Do you like being a Vet? Do you get a little tear in your eye every time you drive by a CVS?

I got the new book "The Little Bookstore of Big Stone Gap" from the library, and decided to buy it (from an independent bookstore, of course) when I saw the dedication.

"If you have ever walked away from doing something 'important' in order to do something better, this book is dedicated to you.

It's also dedicated to people who love books."

I can totally relate to that. This woman was not a pharmacist, but she is telling my story on almost every page.

😍

Just skimed through this thread... I know how you feel... one of my good frd quit his job right before he was supposed to get a promotion, not b/c he hated his job, he actually loved his job, but b/c as he told me he was dying inside doing the samething over and over again in the same town.... so he quit his job, road tripped to NYC, flew to europe, got a teaching certificate, and has been teaching english in japan fo a while now, he absloutely loves it... all of his co-workers was saying how they wished they had the courage to do what he did, he just said "why don't you".... I feel like most ppl put too much emphasis on their job and not truely living life

I love travel too and for the past year I have met soooo many ppl who have the ability to travel from country to country due to the nature of their job... kind jealous lol

I was thinking about going back to the big box home improvement store again this spring, and when I saw my W2, I decided not to.

I made $914 at that job. NOT.WORTH.IT.

In the meantime, I applied for some places as temporary Christmas help, and none of those places even called me for an interview. That's somewhat understandable, because some of them were getting 500 applications for every job opening, but c'mon, why would they hire me when they could get someone with full sleeve tattoos, hair that's dyed a color that does not exist in nature, and stretched out earlobes?

I take it he was single?

Judgmental much?

I thought you liked that job.

For a while, I thought I did too, but I was having panic attacks and losing weight very, very rapidly, and realized that the job was literally killing me. NO job is worth destroying your health or your life. It was an especially tough decision because it was an excellent hospital with great benefits, and I worked with terrific people too.

I had people ask me, "What would you have done if you had kids?" I don't, but if I had, I would have needed to be healthy so I could take care of them.

I'd say so. Would be difficult for someone with family obligations to just take off.

yea he was single but that's not the point lol almost all of his co-workers were single too :naughty:

I did, but I was hired as temporary seasonal help during the spring. The job lasted about 2 months, and then they laid off all the temps. I knew this going into it.

OK but now you are saying NOT.WORTH.IT. about that job? Or am I misunderstanding?

I did not really read your 4 page thread here but you went from RPh to Home improvement? Was is greener on the other side? Less stressful?

I would think there would be some level of stress if you are only making $900 every 2 months.

If you consider:

Cheap car note :$200/month
Cheap car Ins: $50/month
Gas: $30/week (roughly 1 tank a week)--$120/month

You are at $740 just to show up for work.

Bumping this thread to say that I'm still licensed, but my two state licenses are coming up for renewal in 2022, and I'm starting to think about putting them on inactive status. Obviously, I still have a while to make that decision.

The whole career-change thing was tough; I've dealt with a cancer diagnosis in the meantime, and recovering emotionally from that was less traumatic than this was. I'm doing OK, money- and health-wise.

Happy New Year.

Any regrets about leaving? What are you doing now for work?

No regrets, and I still have 100% support for my decision, both online and IRL.

I have an Amazon resale business (mostly books) and while it's not enough for me to live on, I still have enough in savings to get me by

Happy New Year.

I am 6+ years in this occupation and constantly think about getting out, but keep hanging on. The highlight of most of my workdays is reminding myself of each days wages.

Its crazy how the concept of FIRE has evolved since this original post.

I find my "amusement" in observing how people in this sewer of low-echelon society scrape by so I don't really have that unease of "hanging on" since other people have it much worse in comparison.

I strongly advise you to keep at least one primary license active. It's something I've seen the wrong side of from others when they got an opportunity for some off-the-wall practice thing that just needs to have a license. You didn't slave for 1500+ hours as an intern for nothing, and the fee is usually trivial.

I'm surprised you hang around this forum with that then, you should let go and probably spend more time with the antiquarian forums which are quite entertaining on their own.

I think you got the wrong thread.............you need the "booted from acting class" thread...

1500 hours as an intern? What about the 6 years of college before that? (I went half-time for a while).

I live on a state border, which is why I'm licensed in two states.

😉Need I say more on why you shouldn't let them go? Only let them go when you cannot possibly renew is the advice I've always been given. It's one day of pharmacist pay per license every two years on average.

Passive income, fliping houses , investing correctly (assuming you have the money)
I remember you now. You were talking about leaving the field for a very long time now b/c it is stressing you out.

Name one job that is stress-free, fun, relaxing, easy, never tiring, etc. etc. AND pay six figures. I am just curious on what you think on this one.

Even if you take the six figures part OUT....I think we all will be hard pressed to think of an easy, stress-free, and fun job. Even jobs that pay $15 dollars an hour are very hard and stressful....so what makes you think you can find one that pays $60/hr without stress? doesn't make any sense to me.

I am just saying all jobs for the most part sucks. We all prefer not to work if we don't have to...you just kinda remind me of a friend that told me one time..I gotta quit my job it's so stressful and tiring, I gotta get an easy job that pays tons of money...and I am here thinking WHAT JOB are you talking about? 😕 I'll be hard pressed to name just ONE stress-free job right now...

Me too, brother. Just passed my 5 year mark this month. As I make my commute to work, all I think about is whether or not staying in my job is really worth it. Life is so short.
