okay to submit AMCAS in September?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Maybe I should elaborate... I've heard that it's beneficial to get applications in early and I'm concerned that if I don't get mine in until a little bit later in the game, then I'll be at a disadvantage. The problem is that I'm traveling internationally this summer and I don't think I'll be around to get my applications in. Please let me know what you think.

Honestly, if you can, I'd get it in now before you leave. I submitted mine in August, and I don't think it was until mid September until it was officially approved by AMCAS.

bad idea...that was the deadline i set for myself, but in reality i didn't get it in until mid-october. I didn't start getting secondaries until nov-dec...by then, most students were already interviewing. If I could do it all over again, the latest I would have done it would be in July....even if you are a strong applicant, you really are doing yourself a deservice (especially with schools that admit on a rolling-basis)...good luck

My advice is to get it in as early as possible. It betters your chances for acceptance, saves you a lot of waiting and anxiety (don't need anymore of this than you already have), and it also may save you a lot of money (it probably saved me close to ten grand because I got an acceptance so early I canceled a lot of my interviews). Applying early is huge, and september is pretty late in the process, I had five interviews in September. BUT and here is the big BUT if you can't do anything about it because of cirqumstances, then you have to do what you have to do. In that case don't fret and make do with what you have. I hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

I submitted my amcas in September last year and did hear bout interviews until startin in January. By then you're at a disadvantage b/c schools that are rolling admissions have already admitted a lot of students already. Definately get your app in during the summer ( should have done that but procrastination dies hard). It also saves tons of money if you hear about an acceptance early on. If you're gone for the summer, you can ask the schools when their secondaries are due. Some have a set deadline way later on in winter, others are a set date from when you received your secondary.

I submitted my AMCAS late in September and at the moment I did not know about how the application needs to be verified and how that can take 4 to 6 wks. In addition they do not start to verify it until every single detail is in (trasncripts) which also takes a long time to be put into your file (more than ten days after it is received). I did get invited for interviews to everywhere I applied and got accepted at two schools and waitlisted at the others but I can tell you that the application process was very stressful and if I did all of this again I would definitely submit my AMCAS earlier. What happens is that you will get the secondaries very late in the game and you will have very little time to fill those out and you really need to make sure those are well done. Any way if there is no way you can fill out AMCAS now you will still have hope and most probably get interviews if you are a good candidate but then the process will be more stressful.

definitely submit it early. i submitted mine in november and it wasn't fun.
