It never ceases to amaze me how an innocent post on SDN can turn into a flame war at a moments notice. I was reading in the allo forum about how someone was unable to decide between dentistry or medicine and sure enough, it turned into MD vs. DDS.

It got me thinking about where the lines are drawn in the SDN healthcare education field. So far what I've come up with is:

----------------------------
MD vs. DO
MD vs. Dentist
----------------------------
DO vs. MD
DO vs. Caribbean Medical School
DO vs. Chiropractic
----------------------------
Podiatry vs. Everyone
----------------------------

If us DO's were smart, we'd befriend the dentists so we could gang up on the MD's, keeping a careful eye out for any backroom MD-Carib-Chiro alliances. The MD-Carib alliance is a natural, but I think if we work on separating the MD and chiros, we can use that to our advantage, although chiros might feel out an alliance with the MD's just to stick it to us. I'll start by logging on the pre-allo forum as a chiro student and start a thread about how all MD's are chiro school rejects. Someone else has to make overtures to the dentists.....

Anyway, those are the only rivalries I could think of off the top of my head. Anyone know of any other on SDN?

When have the DCs and MDs ever collaborated?

Never, but you know the old saying, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". DC would probably jump at the opportunity to align with MD even if it's only as a big "Up Yours" to the DO's. 😉

Is this a gang warfare or something? What are our colors?

I will definately join this battle! Can we name it Operation MD ego check?

Now there's an idea. We can set up a rumble in a muddy field just like in "The Outsiders". Soc's vs. greasers. MD vs. DO. I can see it now!

No knives or chains, just syringes and 21" Litmann stethoscopes (with maybe an occasional tuning fork on the side). We'll set up manipulation tables on the sidelines in case anyone needs OMT. I'll bring my hardcover Netter's if the fighting starts getting dirty.

Ironic choice of movies. You are at least aware that that movie was shot in your current, adopted hometown. Right?

The Outsiders and UHF. Hollywood's got nothin' on Tulsa.....

Tulsa, the film industry's center of the universe.

This is awesome! We MUST get the nurses on our side. especially the cute ones.

I did not know that. That is way cool! I'm gonna watch the movie again to see if I can catch a glimpse of the med school building in the background!

Look for Woodland Hills Mall (early 80s retro version)

That gives me a great idea for a new movie. In "The Outsiders Part II" Ponyboy applies to OSU-COM and gets waitlisted, only to persevere in the end after snapping pictures of a male interviewer wearing women's clothes. Damn, I can see the movie poster in my head:

Wow, the things I'll do to avoid neuroanatomy.

Dont forget about the candy-stripers...and the x-ray tech and the house-keeping crews

the doctors I've talked to and know all gave me the same advice:

ALWAYS! keep the secretaries, nurses and janitors on your side!

(I think we could lure them all over if we did it right.....)

This is the best thread on the SDN by far. Hook em Horns!!

Well, it was a good thread, until you had to lower the IQ in here by posting "Hook em Horns!!"

Sheesh.

Sincerely,
Boomer (As in "Boomer Sooner" as in "The guys who own the Horns asses in the Cotton Bowl" as in "The guys who are gonna own the Horns asses in New Orleans"........)

hey hey now. you can't the power house! University of Texas, the number one seed in the NCAA tourney fo da South!

Speaking as a paramedic in an ED;

ALWAYS! keep the secretaries, nurses and janitors on your side!

So true. My people are always watching and waiting, biding our time to show our our power. The DOs in our hospital have shown themselves to be be friends of the oppressed, as have the FMGs. Out time comes soon, my brothers and sisters...😎

I'm in. Tomorrow I'll buy the secretaries here at school some pretty flowers and the janitors I'll buy a case of Lite (some of these guys look like they're in need of a beer).

Never hurts to start early when it comes to revolution!

with our hands-on knowledge of anatomy with an emphasis on structure/function relationships we're sure to come out ahead in hand-to-hand combat. especially against those pencil-necked MD's 😎

even with all the cute DO's around??? 😱

 I guess some folks just can never get enough.
Well, they do have access to all the medical records... and if things get dirty they would certainly be good to have on our team. Fortunately, our godly OMM skillz and our natural suave DO demeanor should take care of winning the nurses over. They will side with the docs that make them purr.

looks like we're poised to strike...
:meanie: mwahaha

Those Doctors were telling the truth Kritenoel, I worked as a secretary for 3 yrs in trauma ER...and the nurses/secretaries/janitors are major friendship pluses. We can use them to network with their fellow nurses/secretaries/janitors in other areas.......Get whole complexes turned against the MD's..
Wooohooo

Not only that, but secrataries and nurses are great for a little nooky on the long, lonely nights when the ER is slow! 😀

LOL, and just how would you know this Fenrezz, been sneaking around some ER's......which by the way are rarely slow (at least the one where I worked)😉

Thats the advantage of working ER in smaller cities. Not much going on and so everyone will be bored, which is the only shot I ever have at nooky (women are either bored, or feel very sorry for me!).

lets not be haters now. Don't get me wrong, I'm more of a grouper myself. I think there are some good MD's out there... and thus its not about being "against" but rather "with".

Before they surrender to us, the talented MD's who care well for patients should be offered the option to defect and change their initials to DO to retain their practice rights (given that they can pass the comlex and learn some palpatory skills), while the untalented or unyielding can be sent to greenland where the men are men and the sheep are scared.

hope that clarifies everything,
bones

I agree Bones, I have some good friends that are MD's....I didn't mean for it to sound so harsh.

Soo..what happened? Fenrezz, did you make up a new username? I want to see the thread in pre-allo. I couldn't help but laugh as I read this thread...i can't wait to see what happens!

New username? This is the only one I've used on SDN. Which thread are you reffering to in pre-allo?

I guess, I was referring to your original post...in which u said that. I thought you were going to make up a username..i just assumed that! ha..sorry! I think i misinterpreted ur post!

Well I would have made up a fake name, but I think my OSU avatar would give me away. Plus one of the moderators is a classmate of mine and I dont want her beating me with her bookbag for starting a fight on SDN. 😉

So to play it safe, we'll just have to fantasize about the MD/DO rumble.

You, know it, Fenrezz!
Psst: meet me in the back of the library later this afternoon.
And don't let anyone know about our little trysts, K?

You'd better backoff DrMom.....Fenrezz is ALL MINE!!!!!😉 😍

Ladies, ladies....

We can settle this in private between the three of us.

...in my bedroom.

😉

as a former CNA turned student-DO, i've got to remind everyone not to overlook the nurse aides.

just picture it...they are pretty sick of emptying bedpans and giving spongebaths...they're ready for a revolution, too. they will be a powerful force to contend with...i'll try to get them on the DO side.

(sorry to take this thread off its bawdy oklahoma trail!)
(Dr. Dunn from OK just taught our Kaplan Micro/Immuno course a few weeks ago, and I thought he was a cutie. He kept saying, "Looky here" and snapping his fingers over his head to get our attention when he had an important point to make. He must have done it 30 times over the length of the course.)

I hope there aren't any MD's lurking about in this forum. They may take it an a less than positive way. They might actually put this rumble into action.
