anyone out there applying to oklahoma (OU) this year? 🙂 there were a lot of old threads about OU but none this year. so thought I might get some support going!

I threw an app. down there..although I'm OOS, so I don't expect a whole lot.😀

Yes, Yes, Yes!!!! I'm and OU applicant this year, and I was wondering where all my future (hopeful) peers are (okay, so my fingers are crossed). I've been complete at OU since Aug. 17th-ish. I'm still waiting impatiently to see interview invites on here. I just want to know when they get that ball rolling.

I have also thrown an app out there. I was born and raised in Tulsa, but am currently been OOS for the last 13 months so we'll see how they view my application. In actuality though, I'm not too excited about OU: I've spent two summers in Oklahoma City and feel that it is an awful place. No offense. 918 forever.

OU hopeful, out of state. I called down there the other day because there was a mixup with my LORs (delivered on the 2nd of July, never posted) and the nice lady in the admissions office told me that it doesn't matter when you are complete, they do it in stages. The first one is everyone before september 1st, then the next one is like november 15th.

/no ties to OK
//still hopeful

She didn't happen to say when interview invites would start rolling out?

And good luck to you.:luck:

She said "in the next couple of weeks". Whether that means today, tomorrow, or in October, I have no clue. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

/thank you, and good luck to you, too.

haha so basically if you're complete after sept.1 you all go in one big pile huh? 🙁 thanks for the info though.

btw I see you are MI resident and since you say "go blue" i'll assume you went to UMich?? that's where I went 🙄 yay for another wolverine!

I certainly did. It's always good to see another one of us around here...

Yeah, I'm not an OKC fan either. The good news is that you only have to do two years there and can do your last two years in Tulsa. That's my plan. Of course if you really like Tulsa and hate OKC, OSU's always an option.

If you're from Oklahoma, they'll view your application favorably even though you're currently oos.

Thanks for what you can offer. I keep having this recurring nightmare where I'm offered an interview and the e-mail goes into my junk e-mail and I never get it, and I miss my interview. Yeah, not pretty.

div--33 MCAT may give you some love oos, but if you want my .02, you will get much better offers based on your mdapps.

I appreciate your input and support very much. This is the 2nd time around for me, and unfortunately, I am borderline for everywhere and can't take anything for granted.

/would love to be able to relax about med school for the first time in 18 months.

Has anyone else noticed that OU has updated their applicant/interview offer/etc. stats on their admissions webpage???? 708 apps as of 9/6. I wonder if this means interviews are coming out soon.

I know, I really need to stay off my computer for a while. The waiting is literally making me go a little loopy. I swore to myself after reading SDN for 2 or 3 years that I would not become neurotic like everyone else..... It looks like I've failed myself.

ditto...this is worse than waiting for MCAT scores...because at least then I knew what date they were coming and I could keep myself busy.

I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I get sick of my kids always going, "Mamma, mamma, mooooommy, mamma, hey momma...."

And I'm going, "Interviews, interviews, when are interview offers coming out, interviews, hey interviews...."

Pathetic.

I give you high praise for even differentiating between your own mind's voice and your children's.

The upside for OU updating their admissions update box....

I can stop checking the official interview invite threads ten times a day. Which is good, because that thread entails a lot of scrolling. When interviews ARE offered... I'll know about it.

premedmommy- i was wondering if all those apps were from oos. sounds like a lot!! haha i feel your pain about being neurotic...i'm online all the time looking for any sense of security about this whole process but there really is none. did you look at the stats ice nine posted about the MS1's from 2007? i couldn't get them open on my slow laptop 🙂\

div0t- why oklahoma? and i can't believe you got rejected from wayne...i was about to ask you why you didn't apply there or MSU!

I think last year it said that they had slightly over 1300. If it's around that many again this year, we're halfway there. I think someone once told me that there are a lot of OOS applicants. I'd have to check my MSAR on that one though.

div0t- why oklahoma?

They've got a solid program with students who I know I can mesh with well. I met a couple of people who started in 2006 at OU, and they said that the loved it, neither of whom were from Oklahoma. They liked the facilities and the faculty, and Oklahoma needs teachers (which my fiancee is training to be). A pretty good fit, I believe.

/As disappointed as I am about Wayne, gotta keep movin'. Can't get them all.

I'm applying!

Not a resident, by my family is from OK. One county is named after my great-great (or is it great-great-great?) uncle! If that doesn't get me in, nothing will.

But it looks like a nice place. Almost all of my extended relatives got a degree from OU, so they continually praise the school.

Okay... Curiosity is officially piqued.

I'm instate and will be applying, but would rather go to OSU instead over OU.

So I talked to them today.. for the record I'm OOS.

The very nice lady on the phone said the "early interviews" would be handed out next week. These interviews are given to candidates who have "excellent" GPA and MCAT, and who were complete early (didn't specify dates). I was considered early, and was complete Aug. 29.

Unfortunately, my MCAT is a 29, so (especially as an OOS applicant), I won't be getting an early interview.

The good news is that she said not to worry. The "regular" interviews will be given in the last week of November, and (if I recall correctly) those interviewees won't be notified until November.

On their website, they have stated that to be considered for an October interview, you must be complete at OU by September 1.

I'm guessing either Roger Mills or Pushmataha. I've actually not been to many of the counties, but Beaver looks like a nice place to visit even if it's only on an in-and-out basis.

🙄

Nope. Sorry. 😛

My last name is neither "Roger Mills" nor "Pushmataha." Because those are common surnames, lol. If you're gonna guess, go for a more common (read: English) name.

FYI - I don't think they update that page immediately after they've sent out interviews/acceptances/whatever. I also checked that page obsessively until January 20, 2007 (the day I received my acceptance).

Armybound - I almost swatted my computer because of your icon. My hand raised towards it, then I realized it was an awfully flat bug...

IceNine - nice try with guessing the county name. I particularly think Beaver was a good guess.

Thank you for bursting my bubble. Welcome back official interview invite thread.

How 'bout Payne? 🙂 That my home county. I'm guessing it's neither Oklahoma nor Tulsa. Pushmataha would be sweet. 😉 Logan?

I will assure you that my name is not Jane Oklahoma. 😛

But even if you guys do guess it, I'm not confirming...I like my anonymity!

my official guess is gonna be stephens because your name is ssquared 🙂 but secretly i'm hoping it's Love because that's my favorite county name.

I'm applying this year! Although, I don't know if I made the Sept 1 deadline or not...

I spent most of my life in NW OKC (going to OU in Norman right now). It's a great place if you know where to go. I've noticed that in past 5 years the city's really grown a lot. I gotta admit that the school's location is not that spectacular, though.

I'll grant you that. I definitely don't want to live in the neighborhood that it's in. If I get accepted, my family and I will probably move to one of the nicer areas. Somewhere with good schools. Good luck to you in the process.:luck::luck:

Yes, very few people live in the same neighborhood as the school. Lots of people live in places like Moore or Edmond, which is probably a good idea if you have kids. I'd love to live somewhere where I could just walk or ride my bike to school, but that's just not doable at OUHSC unless you live in the student apartments.

So no one's heard anything yet?

I'd love to live in Moore, Edmond, Yukon, Mustang, Norman, Choctaw...
Preferably Edmond. I'm just a bit worried about the cost of living in Edmond. And the school system there is fabulous.

No, I don't think anyone has heard anything. I survived all of Monday with no news. So, here goes a very long Tuesday. (My bets on Friday when they go out).

Yea!!!! I got my interview invite today. My interview is on Oct. 9.

It'd be cool if it was Rogers county because then you'd be a relative of Will Rogers.

Also, it would be particularly apt given your confusion over whether it was named after a great, great or a great great great uncle, since most people mistakenly assume Rogers is named after Will rogers the entertainer, when in fact it was named for his father.

My great grandfather also lived in OK when it gained statehood, but he was no statesman, he was gambler who eventually meet his demise after a bad run in with a loan shark. Ahhh the fabulous heritage of the sooner state!

I got an offer, too! Yay! :hardy:

I feel a little confused b/c I requested a status check on Friday and on Monday they told me they were still waiting for my LOR. I figured because I didn't make the Sept 1 deadline that I wouldn't hear anything for a while. I didn't even get a chance to get nervous before I got my invite! I have a couple friends whose interviews are on the same date as mine (Oct 10)...

Hm, do people carpool to interviews?

Where's all the Oct. 9 people????
