Ya, I got my interview notification yesterday for Oct.10th. I'm really excited!
This is where my residency is so it's kind of my safety. Happy to hear from them early though! 😀 👍

yeah forgot to mention that sorry

congrats to all interviewees!! wish i had been complete that early. alas i will go into the mass pile and be overlooked. *tear* does anyone know about how many in staters got accepted last year?

By state mandate, at least 80% of the class is in-state.

http://www.ouhsc.edu/admissions/reports/0708.htm

That's showing 193 resident applicants last year, 160 admitted, 149 admitted and enrolled. Those are awesome odds.

I know I'm being all anti-data and all, but that just has to be wrong. Maybe the 193 is the number of people interviewed?? OU instate odds are good -- pretty close to as good as it gets actually -- but there's no way they're that good.

Just wanted to say hi to everyone that was applying to OU this year and congrats on all the interview invites so far! I am totally jealous 😉!! My application is still incomplete, but should be done by late September. Does it matter how early you complete the application if you did not make that early deadline?

It does matter, because they review the applications as they come in for interviews, but I don't think late Sept. should be TOO bad of a problem. I wish you the best of luck. Also, they do a tally of applications and where they are in the process at this website:

www.medicine.ouhsc.edu/admissions

It's a good place to keep track of it all. So far, it seems they update every Thurs.

Thanks for the link!! that's really helpful. I was kinda dissapointed after not receiving an "early" invite, but those numbers make me feel a bit better

And those number really make me shocked that I DID get an early interview. My stats are average at best.

A week left until the first go-round. How's everyone doing with that?

I'm doing mock interviews. :scared:

I'm so nervous. I keep getting told that those with an interview the first two days (9th and 10th) have a very high acceptance rate, but... that just means I'll feel that much worse if I don't get an acceptance. No pressure or anything.

good luck yall!!
does anyone know what is the max # of LOR's ou accepts? (besides the required ones for the supplemental) I have 2 additional non professor ones I'd like to send..

I feel the same way. I can't wait until this is over and I know something.

good luck yall!!

I think your two extra would be fine. It doesn't seem excessive to me at all. However, I'd ask the guys over on the allo class thread just to be sure.

I really don't want to lead you astray or anything, but I've never heard of OU having a limit on letters, so I don't see any harm in sending them. Some schools don't want more than 6, but I don't think anyone would mind 2 additional letters. So send 'em! 🙂

I know what you guys mean about worrying about being rejected following an early interview. I had the same worries, and yeah, it would feel like a personal rejection because you know it's not a numbers issue. But still, it's good to know the odds are rejection are low and that you don't have to be the most articulate and charismatic person around to get in.

I suspect there are certain things they're looking out for that might lead to a waitlist or decision deferral. One of the posters on the allo class thread who got waitlisted and then not accepted her first year was told that she came across as argumentative, so watch out for that one. Also, if you're really disinterested it will come across, but I don't think you all have to worry about that.

Tomorrow is the big day!!!!!

Good luck to those who interview tomorrow. The interview day today was fantastic, IMHO. And a little info, they told us today that our decisions should be sent to us within 10 days!!!!!!

Lol, I just asked that in the allo thread. Cool -- I'm glad they're not making you wait.

And yes, good luck for everyone tomorrow! :luck:

Alright TheLesPaul, Azadi, kelbearTU, and SpeShow.... I'm curious to know how your interviews went. Hopefully all was golden.

That was not what I expected at all.

Today started off really bad. I got almost NO sleep. I got caught in the construction on I-35. I was ultra nervous. I think my sleepiness is what calmed me down a lot, though. The adrenaline kept me awake. I really felt like it was just a conversation during my interview. The only question I was asked that I thought I would get was about when I was first interested in medicine. But everything else was very specific to my application. I really enjoyed it, though. In all honesty that interview was the greatest thing to happen on this craptastic day. Immediately after the lunch I had to come to Norman, nap for an hour, and then go work.

I really love OU. I bet I'll be the one person that gets deferred/rejected from these first two days. In reality I was probably too sleepy to really be aware of how bad I was doing in my interview. Hopefully, we'll all get those flashy envelopes in the mail, though.

I had to take in alot. I would say if you think you are strong applicant then be prepared for questions outside your application. I was asked all the dreaded ones: healthcare, innovations in medicine, greatest doctors, politics..etc. It was kind of amusing how much they wanted to stress me out yet I wished they asked about my ECs since I felt like I could elaborate alot more than on my AMCAS.
Another note, I would say talk alot to the med students. They looked really bored and dying for some conversation because my group was all silent. It helped with my nerves even though I only dared to ask two.

hey all! congrats on the interviews going well! 👍 who were your interviewers? students, profs, etc?

hope you guys kicked booty on the questions! were there a lot of ethics heavy/state of healthcare/ current events type questions?

SpeShow, I wouldn't be too worried. There was one group of docs on my interview day who grilled their applicants big time. I was in a conference room off the side of a larger room where another interview was going on, and when I walked out, I heard that poor guy getting it bad.

My interviewers were all docs, no students. Whether they were professors or not, I'm not sure. I wasn't asked any healthcare, ethical, or political questions at all.

I-35 was a problem for me, too. There was a wreck on it, and I think 95% of the applicants on my day were stuck in the jam. It took me about 30 minutes to go about 5 miles. It sucked, but they were VERY understanding for the people who were late because of it.

I'm excited to know what the decisions are. I really hope that I don't have to wait until after Feb. 24th (when they review the deferreds).

Everytime I see your screenname, I just think...

"under my umberrrella, ella, ella..."

someone's sn is actually "ellaellaella"
makes my brain a little confused to look at it.

...and the wait continues 🙄

I hope the next batch of interview invites go out soon for those of you who haven't had one yet. I hope answers are mailed out soon for those of us who have.

I hope so too! Do you know what the interview dates are for November? Do they even hold any interviews in December? Great job on your interview! I hope you'll be hearing some good news pretty soon 🙂

I could be wrong, but I think we're suppose to hear back sometime this week? I'm kind of on the edge of my seat here. How long does it take for a letter to go from OKC to Norman? Haha

It'll take all of one day. 🙂 I lived in Oregon when I applied, so I had to wait 3 days for the mail to show up. Also, if other people hear before you, it doesn't mean you're going to get bad news. Really, they take longer to write letters for certain people for various reasons (usually good reasons like scholarships), so waiting's not a bad thing.

Anyway, hoping everyone who's interviewed will get great news this week, but don't fret if you don't. Yeah, I know, easier said than done. :luck::luck::luck:

When we were there, they said that they have multiple interview dates in the rest of the months, and they interview all the way through Feb. But, I can't remember who said it, so I don't know the accuracy of the statement.

They had to wait until Oct. 15 was past. My suspicion is that they will drop something in the mail today.

Goodness I hope we find out today or at least this week! :luck::luck:

Curious to know - you guys see many OOS'ers in your interviews? I have serious ties to the state, and I am planning on applying this June. Anybody have any comments on OOS this cycle? I know they took some last cycle, but only if they had ties to the state....

I got a first round interview a few years ago as an OOS applicant, but I'm actually from Oklahoma. If you've got strong ties and a good application, they'll be interested in you. :luck:

Another day and still no news. I've tried calling, I've tried a status check, those guys are tight-lipped about decisions. However, when I called on Monday, the nice lady said that decisions should be "sent out sometime this week." I'm sick of waiting.

I got my acceptance today!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats, guys!! So the non-OKC Oklahoma people should probably hear tomorrow. 👍

If you've got any questions or just want to lurk to see what being a student at OU is like, come check out our class thread in allo. I promise we're nice. 🙂

I ran to my mailbox after I got off work today at 2:00. I've been calling everybody for the past three hours telling them the tragic news: My dream of becoming a doctor is finally coming into fruition. Mwahahaha!

Congratulations everybody!!!!! I'm so excited I can't sit still!!!!! You guys are my future peers and colleagues! I feel like I'm 5 and its Christmas!

And just for good measure in case you haven't picked up on it yet....

Haha, you crack me up, future Dr. PreMedMommy.

congratulations guys!! i guess this thread will be dead until after Nov. 1 now huh 🙄

Do any of you guys know how to establish instate residency (other than by marrying an okie)? OOS tuition is pretty steep.

there is a person on the OSU DO forum that posts how he/she got residency by living in an apt. here, transferring all their mail, registering to vote, and getting an OK driver's license...but that's all before even interviewing. sorry that's as much as i know! you might wanna check over there 🙂
