I've elected to go to Tulsa next year, and I'm really excited about it. However, ad_sharp is 100% correct in that both locations are good places to train with different pluses and minuses, and most people seem to decide based on location since you can get wherever you want from either place.

According to our dean, no one has ever been forced to go to a campus they didn't select. It's not an absolute guarantee, but it's really very unlikely that you wouldn't get your first campus selection.

As for the 4-year plan in Tulsa, while the article said it might start in the fall, I really don't see that happening. It sounds like the plan for the future is to have 2 separate programs with separate admissions, and OKC class is not going to shrink. So things might really change in a few years (actually for the better for applicants), but for now, it's about the same.

Azadi, I just glanced at your mdapps. You are pretty awesome!!! Have you decided which school you will be attending? I would find it pretty darn hard to pass up Hopkins! 🙂

I haven't decided yet. I know it sounds bad to some, but it's also really hard to pass up OU. 🙂

Anybody going to the second view day?

pardon my ignorance, but what is the second view day?

It is a day when all accepted (and sometimes waitlisted) applicants get to go back to the school and they try to convince us why their school is the one we want.

They give you tours, more curriculum infor, etc. A lot of schools do a whole second look weekend, and they really pamper you and show you teh town, but I think Oklahoma's is gonna be pretty low key.

I'm thinking about it, but I'm still not sure if I'm going or not.

I must go to the second look. It's the first ever and I think I have more questions for schools now that I'm done with interviewing. I don't know why I didn't just ask them while I was already there. Maybe I was nervous out of my mind or something.

OU finally updated their admissions stats. Anyone know when the committee is getting together next?

I interviewed in February, and they said that the Final Board meeting was on the 24th.

a heads up to anyone waiting to hear about yesterday's meeting:

i called the admissions office today to see when the letters are supposed to go out...

the woman told me that "they have to have a meeting with the dean, which they haven't scheduled yet" and that the letters might go out by the end of the week. not sure what the meeting with the dean is all about, since the adcom meeting was yesterday. maybe someone else has some insight.

ugh.

once again, good luck to everyone.

When I interviewed in November they said the adcom met, and then they took their "decisions" to the dean, and he approved each of them, and then they sent out letters.

that makes sense.

i just wasn't expecting another week of waiting.

Can anyone comment on any out-of-staters they know got in at this point in the cycle? Anybody know stats for them? Trying to figure out if I have a shot or whether or not I would never get accepted as out-of-state..

don't know much about out of staters...maybe if you try searching previous threads?

thanks for the info deadeyedk. here's to another week of waiting😳

I don't know specifically, but I think if they give you an interview you have as good of a shot as anybody else. They do want to admit some oos students, and they really cut the oos students out in the pre-interview stage.

Last year, I went to the reapplicant workshop, and the doctor that was leading our "group discussion" pointed one of the guys out from the group what was waitlisted and said, "you have a good chance of getting in at this point, because you're 'out of state.'"
So I think you have a good chance. Good luck!

And here's to another week of waiting.... :/

On the vaccine history form, it says to mail in your completed form to Judy Davis, but I can't find any contact information. Anyone else finding it???

Heard a rumor that letters went out today...

Really?! How did you hear this rumor?

Yes.
I went by the admissions office and asked the receptionist, who called Dottie, who said that the letters were mailed today.

:scared:

I would have been only too happy to pick mine up and save them the postage 🙂

Thanks for taking the time to get a confirmation jellybelly. Since I'm in town, I may just start stalking my postlady beginning tomorrow...

But imagine how cool it will be to look out and see a big red envelope hanging out of your mailbox.

Thanks for the vote of confidence PMM. Hey, by the way, are you going to start a new account with a name that properly reflects your change of title. No more "PreMed" about you, Mommy!

I've been doing really well on being relaxed and laid back about about all this hurrying-up-to-wait business, but knowing that my fate is floating around town in the postal system has put me on pins and needles! I know, I know. I'm not the first to go through this wait, nor the only one waiting, but this is the first time for me.

I don't know the exact contact information, but Judy Davis is a nurse that works in the Family Medicine Department's "Green" Clinic. I'm sure that you could call 405-271-4311 to find out how to get something to her.

I have a question. I am signed up to help with interviews on March 5. When I interviewed for med school, it seems like OU was finished with interviews by early Feb. Does anyone know how our interview schedule lines up with OSU and other institutions (is everyone else interviewing later in the season now)? I haven't helped with interviews this year yet-mostly because I've been very busy with my own interviews. Consequently, I'm not fully up to speed on how things are going this year.

I know that all of you who are waiting are tired of not knowing your future. I joined your ranks last evening when my rank list was finalized. Now, I have to wait until March 20 to find out the destination for residency.

Is that the second look day? The final board meeting was Feb. 24th. and the decisions are supposed to be arriving in the mail over the next week, so I don't think it is possible for it to be an interview day.

Good luck on The Match.

I guess that's possible. I should check the email.

Hey dude,
Haven't seen you on here for awhile. I just figured out today that I am WAY in debt.😀

I don't know about the screen name. I know I need to get a new one, but I'm soooooo not creative enough to try to think about it. So, we'll see what happens. (Maybe Trixie?????)

I know what it feels like, except I didn't know what day they mailed the letters on, so for a three day time frame, getting home and checking my mailbox was literally the high point of my day. Good luck bravo, and everyone else for that matter.

Thank you. I eventually e-mailed the incoming class 2012 e-mail contact, and they gave me her mailing address.

anyone receive anything yet? i know it's probably still too early....
my husband is still trying to convince me that it's probably going to arrive in our mailbox tomorrow and not today. 🙁

Sounds familiar, except I've convinced my better half to run by the house over lunch just to check anyway. I'm pretty sure my afternoon will be relatively unproductive until I have confirmation that the postlady didn't bring anything more interesting that Pizza Hut coupons and the cell phone bill.

i'm glad there's company while we're waiting it out! 🙂 so how fast is the OK postal system? are we looking at saturday or (gasp!) monday?? i don't know if i can stave off my curiosity that long...

and wow Premedmommy what are you doing up at 4:35 am??!

I don't know. All I know is that the mail lady gets to my house around 3. And... mail from Tulsa gets to Norman in 2 days. That's all I know.
I can't stop freaking out. What can I do to pass the time?!

I live in Edmond, and I just got the letter telling me I was wait-listed. 🙂 Better than a reject and I have hope!! Good luck to everyone else!

That post was at 6:35. I have to get up at 6 to get myself and my kiddos up and ready so I can get to class on time. My 6 am posts are usually during breakfast.

Hey trixie!!!!! What's up????

HEY PMM!! How was school today? Sorry I didn't make lunch! Next week as always?😱

does anyone have any insight on the timeline of waitlisted applicants getting accepted? i know the latest date is aug 1, but that will be too late for me. does anybody know of anybody who's found out fairly quickly?

it seems to me that since may 15 is the deadline for people to finalize their acceptances, there should be a flood of openings immediately after that. is that accurate?

Lunch was crazy with our normal crew. Looking forward to next Fri, so it's a date!

Yes, waitlist movement really picks up after May 15.
