ditto waitlist 🙁
91 people on the waitlist can you believe it? is it usually that big?

ah well...good luck to all ya'll..hopefully we'll hear good news, but if not, look forward to seeing you next time around!

oh yeah, and FYI, my friend got her acceptance today, so those have gone out too!

anybody have the stats on the percentage of people taken from the waitlist each year? i've heard from several people that last year they took almost everybody, and that the percentage has been very high in years past. wondering if there is any truth to this.

as you all can see, i'm coming up with a whole new set of questions for this new scenario.

thanks to all.

i saw in a previous thread that at the 2007 reapplicant workshop they were told to expect about 20-30 to be taken off the waitlist...so i guess maybe we'll find out more at the workshop? it also said the waitlist for that year had around 50 people, so that makes me wonder if they expect more movement this year. 😕

If anyone is interested, deadeyedk has started an Oklahoma Waitlist discussion group for all of us who will be needing medication until May 15th.

hopefully all you waitlisters join..misery loves company!
lanieou, jellybelly, have you guys heard anything? 🙂 be nice to hear some good news on the thread!

Anyone going to second look day?? It's the only school I applied to, so I'm pretty sure I don't need a second look to convince me to attend there, so I can't decide if I want to go or not?

Dooooo it! Dooooo it!

I think it'll be interesting to see who shows up for the second look and then who actually matriculates. It'll also be cool to meet potential future classmates early.

Question: Since it's a second look day (as opposed to weekend), do you think they'd be upset if significant others wanted to come along? I didn't really think of this until Brown told me we could bring our s.o.'s if we want. That's the only school that's extended that invitation to me, so I don't know if other schools allow it. I guess it would help to bring s.o.s along so they can see what this whole "application process" has led up to. And so maybe they can feel like they're a part of this experience?

This is the only school I applied to also, but I think I'm going to go. It will be nice to see the campus without freaking out about the interview, and nice to meet some future classmates. Hopefully they will be giving us more information on academic and student life, and maybe some financial aid stuff.

You guys should definitely come! I want to meet my possible future classmates, and definitely future colleagues!

I don't imagine they would have too much of a problem with this, but you ought to call and ask. This is the first time OU has had a second look day, so they are likely to be flexible.

I think you should all come. It will be a great opportunity to meet future classmates and to get a feel for the campus whilst not freaking out about the interview. I'll be there, along with a number of other students of various years, to profess my wisdom about first year and to answer any questions you guys have.

I went ahead and emailed Dotty since I'm still at school and she's been prompt replying to me. I'll let y'all know what's up.

Yeah, I said y'all. 😀 Pretty sure I said "y'all" during my interviews, too...

Aww...I'm sad I can't go to meet everyone! I have class that Saturday. Well, have fun and I guess I will meet everyone at orientation!! 🙂

Ya'll is a staple in my vocabulary. I have a southern accent that at times can get REALLY bad. Just ask trixie 'bout that!

This thing is gonna cost me 60 bucks in gas if I go. That's a lotta money!

I'm driving in from Tulsa and taking a day off from work... You can do it!

CLASS?!!! ON SATURDAY?!! Whoa.

Update: Dotty said that I could bring him!! She also said that there are a few that are bringing someone along, like this one guy and his dad.

It'd be awesome if you could come, premedmommy! You should. We'll try to make it worth the gas money. C'mon... come... No pressure or anything. 😀

Wanted to say welcome to everyone on this thread. I'm a 4th yr at OU and if anyone has any questions about anything, feel free to PM me.

(disclaimer: I'm probably a little more deft at things involving MS3 and up. Anything specific to curriculum details, professors, etc. is probably best directed to the current MS1/MS2's, as alot is changing on that front).

Anyways, best of luck to everyone who's applying.

Dotty said I shouldn't bring my spouse. And I've got to hurry up and decide, like now!

Alright, you guys talked me into it. I'm going, but I'm shy around new people, so I'll be the quiet one that everyone will not notice.

I'm sooo t-shirt and jeans, and then I have my interview suit...

I'm well-known as "bra girl" and "towel girl." I hate clothes... So restraining.

LOL, I dare you to show up in a bra and a towel.

Dottie's a sweetheart, but I doubt that would go overlooked.... LOL.

But we would all know who Dr. Dreamer was.

LOL, I'll be the insanely tall and skinny one with the brown curly fro.

I think brown curly fros are so pretty. I've got long straight brown hair that doesn't do anything.

What is "second look day"? I'm on the waitlist and just curious what and when this event is? thanks

Second look day is for those holding a Golden Ticket (or several) to go back, check out the school, and visit around with people. It allows people who are having difficulty deciding between schools to get a better feel for where they might be happiest.

It's also a good opportunity to meet people who may be in your class.

I'm not sure if any of you care, but I thought I would bust in on the conversation to let you know how match day turned out for me. It looks like I will be headed to the frozen north to complete my Radiology residency training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. I am extremely happy with this outcome. I am only telling you all this because I believe that my decision to attend OU is by far the single most rewarding decision that I have ever made in my professional life. I was holding an acceptance to another school (OSU-Tulsa) prior to making my decision, and-with hindsight-I know that I made the right decision. I would be happy to discuss anything with any of you if you would like to PM me. (Please don't start a flame war)

In finding a good school personal "fit" is very important. At least as important, however, is going to a program that won't limit your residency options-you should be able to go anywhere and do anything with regard to your choice of career. I am obviously pleased to have had the options available to me coming out of OU. Some "competitive" residency match highlights from my class:

Thanks for the info ad_sharp. Did OU always have a RadOnc residency?

No. It's in it's 2nd year. It was created after the ~160 million dollars was dedicated for building the comprehensive cancer center. Pretty sweet deal.

Am I missing something? Is there seriously not a single person from that match that went OB/GYN?

There are 6 people that are going into OB/Gyn. The list I posted is not the entire list. I did not include most of the people who are doing prelims and most of those staying at OU for their training. Additionally there are 21 people doing Family Medicine, 5 doing psych, 1 in path, and 19 doing Internal Medicine. I think that the spread of people in my class between the specialties is great-it shows how we were able to persue our unique interests. Some specialties were very popular this year (Rads and Anesthesia). Last year it was Ortho. The number going into any specialty changes some from year to year.

I'm sorry for any confusion.

Well, that's exciting.

PreMedMommy - are you planning to relocate closer to school over the summer or do you plan to commute?

I'll be relocating to somewhere in the OKC metro area sometime this summer, but I'm not sure where exactly yet. I love where I live now, but a 3 hr. daily communte and I will not get along. And I need to be close to peers because study groups and I do get along real well.

Well, the commute is doable just so you know. Especially if you don't attend class like myself.

Yeah, but once I'm a 3rd year and must be at the hospital at the butt crack of dawn, I'm going to want to be closer. At the age my kids are, now is a better time for the transition than in a couple of years.

So.....How did the Second Look go? Wasn't it scheduled for this past Saturday?

It was last Saturday, and it went all right. We pretty much saw the same stuff that we saw at our interviews, in fact a little less. They talked a lot about the curriculum, there were a couple of demonstrative lectures, and a med student Q&A session.
