I'm in. I'm in, I'm in, I'm in!!!

Holy crap batman! When did you get your letter? Congratulations. I can't begin to imagine how you feel. I hope you were able to sleep last night. Nothing quite like graduation and a medical school acceptance on the same day! Now you can enjoy your summer. Keep praying for those of us still on the list. It is encouraging to see movement.

My letter showed up yesterday afternoon. It really was in the top two best days of my life. I definitely plan enjoy the summer, I'm seeing visions of lazy days reading and swimming.

I'm definitely pulling for you, AustenFan (we need to beef up the UCO representation!) and our other SDNers.

Congrats, Bravo!!! You should join the facebook group.

Way ahead of you PMM! Barely slept a wink last night (and tonight it seems!) and since most people don't appreciate phone calls at 2 a.m. (no matter how great the news) I was cruising internet, updating profiles, and just generally soaking up the Sooner. This rocks!

Congratulations to everybody who got accepted!!!! I'm definitely coming to OU next year. I'm cheering on the rest of you guys who are on the waitlist! The deadline is coming up, so you just gotta think there's gotta be a lot of opportunity for waitlist movement.

I think we should all party it up before school starts. 😀 You know, as a celebration and get-to-know-ya kind of thing.

I've heard mentioned by some current OU med students something about a dis-orientation before orientation begins. Any current students care to enlighten me on if I heard correctly or not? (I know you guys are lurking).

Disorientation is a get-to-know-you event sponsored by the soon-to-be MS2s for the soon-to-be MS1s the night before the formal College of Medicine orientation. I wasn't around for last year's but when we did it for the Class of 2010 we cooked hamburgers and hot dogs, had a brief kind of funny video, and split folks up into their mods and had some Q and A stuff. I enjoyed it as a participant and as a host.

It's very informal and a generally fun evening. I think some of the more social folks go out afterward for even more fun, but I'm too boring and married for those kind of shenanigans. 😉

Good luck to everyone still waiting!!! 🙂

Question-Is there any way to request to be in the same mod with someone? Ya know, kinda like we do for a roommate request?

I don't think they do that until summer, but it can't hurt to send an e-mail to student services.

Send me a PM if you can't find the address/contact info.

The two ladies that do most of the work in that office are outstanding and very nice/helpful.

Look out OU, here I come! I got the red letter today!!! 😀

Congratulations AustenFan!

Is anyone planning on attending the College of Community Medicine seminar in Tulsa?

I'm not the least bit interested in the Tulsa track, so I'm not gonna spend the time or the gas to go up there.

Hey, guys! I just released my acceptance (Baylor and Dartmouth both gave me better scholarship offers, so I'm headed to one of them). I just wanted to say that I hope you all have a great time!

Glad to hear that you're getting some good scholarship offers, though I'm sorry that means we'll lose you as a classmate.

I'm sure that those still on the waitlist are anxious to take your spot!

Choices are good. 🙂

I'm planning to apply for the radiology residency at Dartmouth. It looks like a nice place, if you can handle the cold.

I have a question for everyone since I'm not extremely familiar with OKC -- Where is everyone planning on living / where are the best places to live? I'm hoping to rent a house but don't know if I can get one in a nice area thats also close to campus.

Check Mesta Park, Edgemere Park, Crown Heights, and Heritage Hills. Those are all very close to the school (between 5 and 10 minute drive) and have at least some affordable places.

Anybody else getting anxious to get started...or is that just me?

Anybody else getting anxious to get started...or is that just me?

I've been enjoying the summer so much that I've been able to distract myself from thinking about the overwhelming aspects and just think about exciting parts. I have a feeling that by blissful bubble of summertime fun will be bursting come the end of July.

Enjoy your summer...in a few short months, you'll be wishing you had it back. 😀

No seriously. 1st semester is pretty fun. The anatomy guys are great, as are most of the biochem people. For now, sit back, relax, and enjoy the last month of time off...because once you start, your life will never be the same.

i'm a little bit anxious..but really i'm enjoying just doing nothing right now!

anyone know where to buy cheap scrubs for anatomy lab? i'm not sure if i want to shell out for the monogrammed class ones...only to have them stink later😳 what do you guys think?

I'm spending the $$ on a couple pair of cheap sweats and using a couple old t-shirts. Those scubs look very fun and all with their monogram, but it doesn't make any sense to me to buy them only to funk them up, cause that stinky greasiness is irreversible.

If you are set on scrubs, you can buy some cheap ones at Walmart/Sam's.

I'm using my light purple scrubs from ugrad shadowing and my tie-dyed lab coat from ugrad lab.

PreMed Mommy's true identity is split wide open! Just kidding, I'm pretty sure that one was out of the bag already 🙂

I'm loving the tie-dye business. I've never seen that done before, but it sure sounds like a fun idea. Instant levity! Bonus: lots of color hides nasty grease stains and those funky, unnamed colors of the abdominal cavity juices. Ick.

The tie-dye is a funny story actually, and it wasn't my idea, it was the grand idea of CUtrixie08. Our genetics professor, on the first day of class was telling us that we needed lab coats for lab and he goes, "I don't care what kind of lab coat you guys get, just get a lab coat. I don't care if it is short, long, white, pink, green, or tie-dye, just get a lab coat. You cannot participate in lab without a lab coat." This made some of our class think, hmmm, a tie-dyed lab coat, that'll be interesting. So one day, it was the day after a big ice and snow storm, about half our class was in the backyard of trixie's house in short sleeves on a sheet of ice with buckets full of dye tie-dying our lab coats.

hahaha that sounds like something Trixie would do. I think I'm a little jealous of your tie dyed lab coat!🙂

The best part was when genetics professor caught wind of it, he asked us to tie-dye his lab coat, too.

PMM, I'm predicting tye-dye lab coats to be an official movement of the 2012 class! Its selling points: fun and fabulous.

Well, I feel better knowing that not EVERYONE will be thinkin' I'm a total dork (even though...)

Alright everyone, let's not get too chatty or anything. I'd sure hate for the first day of orientation to be too comfortable.

Exactly! I've been really surprised by our class. I kind of expected everyone to be so excited that they would want to chat and meet up before classes.

Then I think about my own desire to keep reality from hitting home until the last possible moment and I understand why everyone is so quiet.

Someone has posted a post on Facebook expressing interest in a night out before school starts. I'm half interested and half wanting to avoid anything (well, mostly) school-related until at least August first.

Add me to your list of classmates! I got the BRE today!

(and Bravo, the it WAS peeking out of the mailbox!)

Hey everyone, so how are you enjoying orientation and your modmates?

Hey...

I saw some of you people as I was cruising through the BSEB this afternoon. Now that you're all oriented and whatnot, get out of the kiddie pool and come play with the big kids. 😛

If you're new to the thread, don't try to read it all. Just say hello. If you're still lurking, register and join the fun.

Congrats to all of you who started this week. I know you'll all do great.

For those of us who didn't make it, I started a new thread:

Check "University of Oklahoma 2013?" for your SDN fix.

Good luck to all.
