In my wait for hopes of UF, I thought I'd start an OK thread so I can:

...try to distract myself from the anxiety that is consuming me
...meet potential OK hopefuls
...avoid writing more biology haikus as a means of ridiculous nerdy entertainment

I know OK states they mail letters in 'mid-march'. Only a few weeks away. Argh!

I applied to OK.
What is oklahoma's rep amongst vet schools? Just curious, since it seems like not that many people apply there. Is it because of the GRE Bio or because Stillwater is a small town compared to others and not much to do besides drink beer. :p

Dr. Meinkoth told me we should expect to get the letters late March to early April...they love to make us wait don't they?

Biology haikus? I have to hear one of those! :D

I have no idea what OkSU's rep is in the vet world, but Stillwater is a cool place and the vet school environment seems really laid back and friendly. And my brother went to undergrad there and said all the other students hold the vet school in high regard.

I am a resident of Delaware, who has a contract with Oklahoma. I received my letter today (3/23/07) to say I am on the alternate list. :)

Wow, that is a truly great story!

I also hope she gets to become a veterinarian! What a lucky girl to get such a behind the scenes look at their facilities. :)

Hopefully they will move right through the alternate list and I'll get a behind the scenes look at their facilities too! :D

No letter for me at all today, I'm in FL so I'm sure i'll hear from them soon. I'm kinda glad I didn't get a letter today, it allows me to focus on my UF interview tomorrow. Congrats to who were accepted/alt'ed !!:)

BTW, what was the postmark date on your letters??

I totally wish I could. With school and my research (which needs to be done by this summer if I expect to go to vet school... if someone contacts me!), I just can't. I have done some research on the town/school in general. I think I would really like it there if I were to get a call.

Here's to hoping!

Congrats to those who have gotten accepted. And for those who are on the alt list, there's a lot of people who get accepted from the alt list. So good luck and keep your hopes up!

I'll be manning one of the booths for a couple hours on Friday for Open House and probably hanging around some for the rest of the time since I have nothing better to do like study for exams or sleeping. :p Be sure to come by and get your face painted and check out the teddy bear surgery too. :D

Thanks for the encouragement HeartSong.:D

I was kind of glad to hear that I am an alternate for all out-of-state students rather than just for Delaware. I'd rather be an alternate for multiple spots in the class rather than just one spot! Does not matter to me if I am admitted and have to pay out-of-state tuition, I'll still go! Just have to patiently sit here for only a couple more weeks (HOPEFULLY :) )

I really wish I could go this weekend to the open house. Oh well, nothing I can change about that now.

So, are you alternates going to stalk your cell phones starting on the 16th?

If I get in, I'm going! FL weather's too hot anyways :)

Of course, I'll have my cell phone on me ;) I always have it in my pocket in the lab anyways. No real classes this semester, just researching and working in the lab, so as soon as it rings I'll answer... I'll have to try to be as casual as possible if I get a call and not jump up and down

After a LOT of reflecting.....

yes, going to OK will cost 2x as much as instate

yes, OK has an AWESOME laser research facility

yes, as the "Southwest commercials" state...."wanna get away" I deep down feel OK may actually be OK for me.

Anyone on the edge of their seat for next week???

Even if I have to reapply next year, I think I would go to OK regardless.

Dear God, is it April 16th yet????

I think the reason they have such fewer applicants than other schools is the location. The school is awesome, so that's the only reason I can come up with.

Texas A&M is in a good location, and it only receives like 400 apps. a year. I heard it's because it's so hard to get into so people out of state don't spend their time applying? Who knows.

I was rejected from Oklahoma State. I guess I should have retaken the GRE Bio. My score really sucked Lol.

Yes, I was shocked that in the US News rankings that OSU was near the bottom. From what I can tell, the OSU facilities are just as good as those at Missouri, which really impressed me. I think Oklahoma is one of the schools to go to for large animal medicine. Besides location, the only thing I think may have placed them so low in the rankings was the size of their budget compared to other schools. To quote Dean Lorenz from the 2006 Vet Certa:

"We achieve more with less. Even though we receive the third smallest state appropriation in the nation, when comparing sponsored research per unit of state appropriation, we rank fifth of 28 nationally and first in the Big 12."

Everybody in Arkansas thinks OSU hung the moon. When I told my local vet I was accepted at OSU he flipped with excitement. What's funny is he's an LSU grad! He calls OSU for all his large animal questions.

Yeah! Good luck to everyone on the list! Hoping I get a call sooner rather than later... but whenever it comes, I'll take it!! :)

Nothing else we can do now is just sit and wait
