For the few applying to Oklahoma this year: Have y'all looked at the admittance statistics? The number of applications received vs. the number of eligible applicants is astounding! For OOS over half were not eligible. Does this mean that 178 OOSers didn't have all the required classes or something and applied/paid fees anyway? That is just bazaar. I would like to see other schools' stats of applied vs. eligible.

Here is a link to Oklahoma's statistics page for last year's applicants:

Pretty strange. I know of someone who didn't do their upper division courses at a 4 year university and so they were disqualified, but I find it hard to believe that could be the reason for all those...

I agree, it is bizarre. 😉

The BIO GRE dates are often after the VMCAS deadline. I belive thet dates are in October, November, and April only. Oklahoma requires you to be greater than the 50th percentile in every catagory (3 catogories-I forget what they are) So, if you wait to take them until your senior year-after you have taken the bio classes that would prepare you for it and after VMCAS was submitted-you may have not met the requirements if you, say, were in the 41st percentile in one catagory like me. So yeah I paid the money, etc months ago and can't go there.

Yeah we had Katrina Meinkoth (sp?) come talk to our pre-vet club. She is in charge of out of state admissions at OkSU.

She basically said all of those non-eligible were usually those that did not take the bio gre or the nutrition course.

But yeah, you wouldn't think that many people would apply without actually doing those things, but you never know.

She also said for OkSU IS, pretty much all eligible resident applicants will at least get an interview. Nothing is ever guaranteed of course, but she basically said it was (again for the ELIGIBLE)

Actually, I'm pretty sure there is no minimum for the Bio GRE. Here's a quote from the website
"No minimum score requirement has been established. Students should be aware that the Biology Subject Test includes subjects such as botany and ecology and study accordingly."

I'm one of the OOS who did not see that the Biology GRE was required until after they emailed me with a reminder! Still can't figure out how I missed that one.....

I couldn't get a seat at the test here last month so had to withdraw my app.🙁

yeah I didn't realize it either-It was on the OK website but not the AAVMC requirements page-and I took the exam standby. I was stressed because I might or might not have gotten a seat that day-that and the zero additional studying contributed to my not so hot score and an automatic and certain rejection from oklahoma...

I really think that the general knowledge of what is needed to get into vet school is low overall here at OSU. I mean, the vet club has Dr. Meinkoth come to speak about VMCAS and admissions during the 2nd or 3rd meeting, which is at the beginning of September. I'm sorry, but I had my VMCAS basically DONE by then. And the president of the club actually said, "So if you aren't applying this year, you might not come to that one because you'd be bored." Or something like that. Excuse me? I've met wayyyy to many people that are like, GRE? Huh? BIO GRE? You mean there are two? What do you mean we need letters from vets we worked for? WHAT'S VMCAS?

Also, as an undergraduate institution with a vet school right here, we should have pre-vet advisers. It's all well and good that they can just send us over to McElroy to talk to Robin Wilson or Dr. Meinkoth, but just as often they just give you some answer to your question that may or may not be correct. Or, they tell you that you need a 4.0 and should do something else instead.

Not *my* adviser, though - she's awesome. :d

Really, I just would think we should be a bit more organized...

It's even worse at OU.... luckily our advisor is amazing, but still, finding another pre-vet student here is like finding a needle in a haystack.

My favorite line: "you're pre-vet? So why didn't you go to OSU?" :smack:

aaaanyway, even though we are in-state it still feels like out-of-state sometimes. God bless SDN and my ability to stalk threads or else I'd be so terribly uninformed.

Haha. It's tough. Whatever, I guess we have the advantage of not being completely clueless!

Lemme know if you need any help finding your way around come interview time. 🙂

Another Sooner??? yaaaay!!!

haha it's gonna be painful surrounded by orange if I end up going to okstate

70s - i am an OU fan by default. in my former life, i was a corp pilot for a man born and bred in OK. He and his wife donated so much, they named a freshman athletic dorm after him. I flew them to so many home (we lived in SC) and away games, i became a huge fan. We even had our airplane painted white with crimson stripes and a new call number......14OU.....lol

looks like twelve has a point.....that sux big time....ouch...that orange is LOUD...haha

Even though I'm in N. TX there is plenty of orange running around south of the Red River. I was passed by a gorgeous Porsche Boxter convertible on the highway last week. It had a custom orange paint job, orange rims, black top and a huge OSU logo on the rear window. I'm all for a sticker or a magnet but wow. Way to make a beautiful car hideous.

Whatdya bet the owner didn't even actually go to school there? It seems the hardcore UT/OU/OSU folks aren't even alumni.

oh wow....
well I must admit I prefer the traffic cone orange to the other orange that exists much further south of here. thank goodness no vet school exists at that school...

I apologize for turning this thread into me being an obnoxious football fan 😳

...hook 'em horns! 😉

They ARE doing remarkably well this year. Apparently.

I think it's funny that people here buy the horns logo just to put it on their vehicles... upside-down...

'Tuck Fexas,' right?

Does Oklahoma have an interview/when would be expect to hear about it (I am concerned as an out of state applicant)?

Oklahoma State does not interview out of state applicants. They only interview in state applicants and will get back to everyone around the same time in early to mid March about final decisions.

I was mistaken about the Bio GRE. It actually says that you need to be >50 percentile for each section of the GRE general test.

I don't think that's right, at least not for IS applicants... I don't think I managed those sorta of percentages two years ago, and I interviewed. I'll check when I get home, though.

That sounds rediculously high... I sure hope not, because there go my chances. Can you post a link?

ETA: All I see on their website is "No minimum score requirement has been established. Students should be aware that the Biology Subject Test includes subjects such as botany and ecology and study accordingly."

Alright dudes and dudettes, I made a 580. No shame here, just what I made. My percentiles were 29, 38, 13, 44. The average bio GRE last year was a 560, so I'm supposing those percentiles must have been even lower. I got an interview with this score last time, to boot.

So, minimum percentile = bunk.

Yes I was mistaken about the bio GRE. for the general GRE:

(2) Taken the General GRE
and Biology Subject Test
within the last four years;
scores must rank in the
top 50 percentile for each
section of the GRE.

From the admissions brochure

ER, just digging up an old thread to ask a new question... wasn't there interview feedback for Oklahoma State before? Where'd it go?

It does seem to be missing. I know I entered feedback for Ohio in December and there was no feedback for them when I looked earlier. I also know there was Oklahoma feedback at one time. I wonder why SDN would start such a vital tool over from scratch?!!

It's hard for them to go off of percentiles. GRE gives percentiles based on the people that took the test that time (nation wide) or in a given time range. Percentiles really mean nothing. Plus, the GRE is bunk anyways. I took the biology GRE as a sophomore and took it again last Nov (as a Zoology graduate student) and my scores overall decreased. In my opinion, the GRE is mostly just a hoop you need to jump through for most professional and post BS programs.

Uh, percentiles mean a whole lot more than a raw score does. It is a direct measure of how you compared to others taking the exam. How is that not a useful statistic?

The GRE is "bunk" because you did poorly the second time you took it?

Does OkSU require all your pre reqs to be completed when you apply? I am looking to apply in the fall but would not have completed the nutrition course and I want to see if I would just be wasting money with out that class completed.

It's so annoying that the interview feedback did not have a good transition from the old. That link was the old list with old Auburn and Oksu info, but in the last month is now the new page only. Oh well. I think I'll give up trying to be useful...

First, I think that the percentile is hard for them to use because it is not necessarily the same caliber of students taking the test each time. Also there are tests during the year that I'm guessing people spend more study time on...the earlier test...and then when it comes to crunch time those students who did poorly overall may have studied their butts off. I'm just not a fan of standardized testing.

Secondly, not necessarily just that fact, but that I had only 1 biology class the first time I took the subject test (my knowledge was limited) and the second time I took the test, there was much less ecology and more molecular/genentics types of questions...I also think 'standardized tests' are not very useful to show how 'ready' you are for professional or graduate programs in some cases. I'm in grad school now and some people did very well on the test but are struggling with the program, others who did poorly on the test are flying thought the program with honors.
