😍😍😍

WOOOHOOO!!! CONGRATS PHILOMYCUS!! :soexcited:

HELL YES:biglove::woot::claps::banana::banana::claps: :woot::biglove:PHILOMYCUS!!!!!

WAY TO GO!

Thanks guys!!! 😍

I do, however have a question. In my letter, it has this in bold:

However, please be advised that we are initially extending more offers than there are positions available for nonresidents and will, if necessary, give preference to those applicant who first submit the attached acceptance form and the nonrefundable deposit of $500.

Does this mean literally that if enough OOS's accept and put in $500 ahead of me and I am here waiting for UF, and then don't get into UF, then I'm out?? Even if this happens 2 weeks before the April 15th deadline????

So do I put in a deposit this week??? Then does UF even know I've done that, and then think, oh well, no invite for her??? I don't mind losing $500, heck I'd pay that in application fees next year anyway, but I don't want my intentions to look misconstrued in anyway possible. But I would hate to wait for UF, then find out I'm going to OK and then they say there is no room for you.

I don't think they're allowed to do that!! But it seems like it'd be worth it to call and ask and maybe send in the $ anyway to not risk it. How unfair, though!

If I were you Id messenger over that $500 check on monday. UF is not going to know you've been accepted to OKSU and what if they do. Come on, you know that doesnt affect their decision, you'll be accepted based on your merit not on whether or not you've commited yourself to another school. Perhaps Im naive or whatever. But Im also biased for us multi-timers. I would not take a chance on loosing your OKSU seat without a firm UF offer. JMO

Pay the deposit ASAP, and if they try to take your acceptance away from you still, complain to VMCAS. I am pretty sure what they are doing is illegal according to the rules all the schools agreed to (no untoward pressure to make anyone accept before the April 15th deadline, a rule made in order not to hinder schools that decide late like UF).

I think it is reprehensible that OK is preying on all ya'll's fears in order to make some money, because they know full well that a bunch of people will do as we are suggesting, and pay up immediately in order not to lose a spot. Then when a quarter of them get into their state school, they are out the deposit (and OK is 500$ richer).

Total crap. But then again, they finally saw what a great candidate you were and let you in, so I can't hate them too much! 😍

PS: Don't say a word to OK about waiting for UF. Just pay the $500, and see how UF shakes out. No one is going to be hurt by you "taking" a spot at OK with your deposit, because you know there are people waiting on the lists for the spot if you decide to give it up.

FINALLY!!! I KNEW YOU'D GET IN PHILO!!!😍😍😍

I called them today. They said they honored the dealine, but it's a first come, first serve situation. I overnighted my deposit. I'm probably biting on their scare tactic.

I really, really am hoping for UF and will be happy to lose that $500. I asked them if other schools would know I pu in a deopist, and they said no, it's confidentail. They also said that they used to know all he schools you applied to- but this year they didn't. Apparatenly, none of the school his year knew of the other schools in which you applied.... anyone hear anything about this?

At least I'm in somewhere. I am excited about the new parasitology center though....I love parasites (explains my first marriage...) 😀

😕😕 That doesn't seem internally consistent. They honor the deadline but if all the spots have been claimed by the deadline, then you're SOL...which sounds an awful lot like setting up conditions where they're not honoring the deadline.

My letter never came so I called them and they emailed it to me. I got waitlisted-again. I was on the waitlist last year also so I hope this year I will actually make it into the class. We will see. Have to wait until June now. 🙁

Sorry biomajir. That stinks. I was an alternate 1st year, rejected last year, but accepted this round. Persistence sometimes is key- I have learned that this year. Are you waiting on any more schools??

I keep hearing about people who got in off the wait list, but I am not sure if I will or not. I was also on the list last year... and here I am again lol. I can only hope that I am near the top. Guess I will start looking for ways to improve me GPA and apply again.

...can't fly out on open house afterall....

Hey Tree Rat...

Be a dear and get into UF so Biomajir's spot will be freed up, mkay? 😉

'Bout time you got in, ya old fart:hardy:

Congrats, Philo 🙂

I had an extremely vivid dream last night that I got into UF. I remember every detail of it....weird. So I'm trying loo,

BTW loo, it takes one to know one 😛

Yes, please go to UF lol. In fact, everyone who can please go somewhere else. It would really help me move up the alt. list and we would both get to go to vet school. I really don't want to wait another year and do this all over again lol. 😀

I know you're kidding to an extent, Biomjr, but I haven't gotten into UF yet. 2 more weeks to wait. Besides, tigers is probably very right- separate lists.

Yeah, I knew even if you did go somewhere else it would not affect my standing, but it is nice to pretend that it may lol. There is still hope, I am glad to know I am not the only one that will maybe have to try a third time.

okay folks, just took the GRE today (ugh)

be honest, cause I don't want to take it again if I don't have to

quantitative -780 (not worried about that) 😀
verbal - 530 (sorta worried about that) 😕

keep it or try again?

btw, my gpa is 3.95 but my experience is not very competitive hours-wise
i will take the bio test in april

You're above the average for both, I think. The GRE average is lower for OKSU than for a lot of the other schools. You can try again if you like, but remember they only take your best overall score.

See how you do on the bio GRE before you decide - if you do really well there, I would just leave your scores and work on experience as much as you can.

I wouldn't worry about your scores at all, they look really good. From what I have learned from my own scores (verbal 580, quant far too low to write about, Biology 650 or so) they seem to really care about quant more than verbal. They told me I really need to get my quant score up to be considered. You can also look up the averages for each of the previous classes on the OKSU website. I think those are really good scores though.

I guess I should point out that OKSU factors in the writing section's score as well. Some schools ignore that, but they have a formula they use (that is beyond me) to convert it into a score on a similar scale as the other two sections. So, if you do well on that section, it helps.

I think I'm going to get to attend the open house. I really hope it works out because I want to show my husband, son and sister the school and teaching hospital. Also, I want to go to the bookstore and buy some OSU gear!! 😀

Let me know if you need any help finding your way around!

The OSU apparel store is in the union on main campus - not sure about Saturday hours, might want to check that. There will be CVM gear at the open house, though.

Or, if you don't want to spend big moneys (no hoodies under $35, the nice ones closer to $50) there's a good selection of OSU stuff at Wal-mart here. Just a thought. They don't sell CVM stuff though. 😉

Oh Cool! I want the CVM stuff! I'm excited. 😀

Does anyone know ::cough twelvetigers cough:: how many people were taken off the alternate list last year? Also, do they usually offer positions to more people than they have space for, or is this the first year they have done that?

Vista, I know you are anxious. I was on the OOS alt list 2 years ago. I am flying out tomorrow and camping out with tigers. As soon as I decide, I'll post. I have pros and cons list set, now it's about taking a peek......

Yay, campout! Wooh!

I have no idea how many people end up on the OOS waitlist. I think they usually overaccept a little, but not as much as some school. Purely speculation though - wish I could tell you more. I WILL say that I bet the OOS list moves more than the IS list...

thanks guys.. philo, feel like sharing what is on your pro/con list? Hope your campout goes well guys 🙂

Open House was cool (except my whole little family group was too tired and too hungry to get the full effect)

I think the tour I took after my interview was better than the tour we went on but we were in a huge group and had a stroller. That made it really hard for my husband and sister to see many of the cool displays and demos. I saw them but that's because I'm not shy about getting to the front to check things out.

All and all it was fun and I got a cool T-shirt and a coffee mug 😀

I LOVED Oklahoma. I loved the new parasitology lab. I loved the people, the professors, the students, the cost of living - at least in my short 3 days there, I loved everything about it.

I ended up choosing UF for 3 reasons, listed in order.

1. I can get two degrees (MPH/DVM) at UF and can't at OSU.
2. Cost- UF is slightly cheaper
3. Distance from my family

If I had not have been accepted to UF, I would have been honored to attend the school. I feel very bad about giving that spot up, but I know I'm making the right decision. If OSU had the MPH degree as well, it would be much harder to choose.

I also know this opens an OOS spot for someone, and that may be their only hope (it was my only hope 2 years ago, and I never got off the atl list). It stinks to turn down a spot, you feel gulity as heck, esp since I toured the school and they spent time with me. But I felt I owed it to myself to make an informed decision, at least go look.

Biology GRE .... 650

It feels weird only being in the 51st percentile....

But that's above average for OSU so I'll take it!

Great job with the 650! I got my Bio GRE scores in yesterday. I was really hoping not to have to take it again. With a 570, looks like I'm going through that joyous experience one final time. :bang:

Just to confirm- anyone know if OSU takes the best Bio score or most recent attempt?
