How many of you are Omicron Kappa Upsilon? It's funny that you don't get inducted/selected until the end of D4 year, you figure it would be a great CV item and a pre-interview screening tool for Ortho and OMFS. Many competitive medical residencies require their applicants to be a Honor Society members, AOA.

Any of you current residents a OKU?

I received a few awards 4th year but I don't remember any of them. The only honor I cared about was the one that MATCH "awarded" at the end of January... I still can't really remembered those "societies" nor "awards". I don't really plan on putting that stuff on my CV. I think the "meat" is where you received your education/training and what you are boarded in...I think my wife tossed my awards/certificates in the trash when we moved and started "boot camp" for the Navy seals, I mean OMFS residency....I haven't missed them or thought about them one time until your post....

I'm a member of OKU, and I would love to be AOA, but I don't think this will happen.

At NSU-CDM, top 20% of the graduating class is eligible to be nominees for OKU, but only 12% of the top 20% will be chosen and inducted. I heard that a lot of other attributes aside from grades will be evaluated to be chosen to be a member of OKU.

Being an advance standing medical student, it would be difficult to get up in there in the top of your medical class and be chosen to be an AOA! Shoot, passing the Step 1, I'm sure is pain enough.

BTW, nice see you on here! How are thing back in OH? 🙂

Doing OB/GYN currently, enjoying my 12 months vacation away from OMFS. Best of luck next monday.

I'm OKU. It doesn't mean anything as far as your OMFS future. What esclavo said is correct. During your 4th year of dental school, all that really matters is matching first and getting out on time next.

I know that, I'm just saying that dental schools should select their OKU members early in our senior year prior to Ortho and OMFS match so residencies can use that as another screening tool, much like some of the competitive medical residencies do with AOA!

Things are now, you are only selected as a OKU member at the end of your senior year, you've already match by the time you were voted to be an OKU member, right?

BTW, I'm not OKU and I don't think I'll qualify.
