Did you guys save your biology and chemistry books from the classes you took or did you return them to make some money? Are the study guides and reviews out there enough for the DAT or should I save all my science books?

I saved all my bio/chem books that would help prepare me for the DAT. I def used them to prepare along with a lot of study guides, but you could proably do without them and find plenty of info in the study guides. I really used my books as reference stuff for when I needed to clarify something.

Your undergrad books are great for reference while you're studying for the DAT but definitely get rid of them after that. I found that they were pretty much useless for me my first year in dental school. Now my books are pretty much worthless as far as resale value. What a waste. 🙁

I've heard more than one med student say they would just keep their Campbell's Biology book, because it could be used quickly to brush up on something quickly (especially if you are going to school with a limited science background). I'd assume it could come in handy for dental students as well.

Oh yeah, and for freshmen/sophomores who want to sell their old books: don't sell them back to your campus bookstore! They will rip you off like nobodies business (although apparently it's their business). They'll give you about 25 bucks for a $150 physics textbook and sell it used for $100. Go onto amazon, you'll get a better price. I never buy/sell books at the campus store, it's a huge scam.👎thumbdown👎

I'll second that. I also like to go to the bookstore with my old books in my bag. I then watch for students that are about to buy one of those books and then offer to sell them mine for about $10 less than the bookstore price. That way I can benefit from the inflated bookstore cost. When I buy my books online and sell them like that, I make money off of my textbooks.

I recommend booksoncampus.com or the service through facebook

I try to sell my books on the first day of class to a fellow classmate. Selling my books on the first day of class gives me a big customer base, and frequently allows me to turn a profit.

I kept my books for the DAT, they are good for refrences. But now that I am all done I plan on lighting them on fire.

another great place to sell textbooks is textbooksrus.com ... free shipping

I sold six of my textbooks through half.com.😀 It's also where i bought my books. Even though they take away a lot for commision, it's way better selling them back to the bookstore.

How much do they take away?

depends on much the book is sold for. if its like a 5 dollar book - u lose like 70 cents or so.

if its a 50 dollar book, you prob lose like 5 or 6 dollars
