I was accepted at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA and was just wondering if anyone on this board is from the area, and could let me know how expensive it is to live in Norfolk. I am from out of state so tuition for first year is ~$21,000. Would anyone know how hard it is to get Virginia residency? I don't plan to go back to my home state so Virginia is as good a place as any. I know for the first year I will have to pay non-resident tuition, but as a graduate student, (for undergrads, I understand everywhere it would be impossible, if your parents do not live in the state) and an independent student, would it be easier to qualify for resident tuition the second and third year? So I know this reply is a few months after you posted your questions, but hopefully it will help. I don't know the exact cost of living in Norfolk, though I would imagine it'd be less than most cities. I would use Craigslist.com as a good resource for what apartments cost and such.

As for getting a Virginia residency, I would imagine that you'd first change your permanent residence to your Virginia address, then apply for a Virginia drivers license.

I would imagine that tuition would be much cheaper as an in-state student.
