Hey all,

I need some advice about my future in making it to OMFS. I am a D2 at a school with about 100 students in my class. I have done my absolute best these last two years but fear my class rank is too low. I have made it through UW almost entirely and have been doing anki every single day the past 4 months. Plan on taking the CBSE in July.

Although my gpa is a 3.92, I am in the bottom half of my class. I haven’t asked my class rank yet (doing that next week), but I know for a fact that 35% of the class had a 4.0 going into last semester. I just don’t know how I can compete with these people lol.

To make it to OMFS, how should I get there? I couldn’t see myself doing anything else in life and want to do whatever it takes to get there, but I also don’t want to waste these next 3 years applying if I don’t have a chance. I’m doing everything I can to crush the CBSE, but I obviously wont know that until it’s over. Also have 2 externships this year and plan on doing at least 4 by the time d3 year is over. Thanks!

I was in dental school not that long ago. My school was nothing like this holy cow. A 3.7 put you near the top of my class.
D1 here. My school has also just become way more competitive and students are smarter than in years past. My teachers haven't changed the difficulty of exams but my class averages significantly higher than even just the previous year. Our class average DAT and GPA also set a historical high for the school as well and multiple people in admissions/deans have commented on it. No handing down of exams or stuff like that here (they write new exams and don't recycle), but it definitely feels a bit more cutthroat and competitive than I expected when it comes to grades. Not sure if that's a nationwide phenomenon or just my school though.

At this point, just go pass/fail

That's what I'm telling predents who think they want to specialize haha, unfortunately I'm here stuck in it :/. I have buddies at P/F schools who have way more time to study for the CBSE without worrying about class rank. The grind to maintain perfection with a smart and competitive class is draining af.
