The application process for applying to OMFS programs.
1. Make sure your application is complete and you have sent all required material the program was requesting.
Most programs out there receive anywhere between 80 - 250 applications per year. A easy way for programs to eliminate your application is to discard all applications that are not complete. This is a easy way to eliminate roughly half of all the applications.
2. Know the cut offs
A lot of programs have hard cut offs. Weather that be GPA, Board Scores, etc. This is another way to eliminate a number of applications.
3. Post Graduate Work.
If you have done a internship in OMFS this can be a good way to work around some of the limitations. Some programs highly regard interns, and this can get you a interview at some programs even if you didnt meet the hard cut offs.
4. Ontime
Make sure your completed application is into the program on time. if its late it wont be considered.
5. Phone calls.
If you know a highly regarded OMFS have them make a call to the program to ensure your application is reviewed. If someone well regarded brings your name up prior to reviewing applications, its a good chance you will make it to the next round.
6. Apply to as many programs as you can.
Just know that your application is in a folder and the secretary is the one that organizes everything. So sometimes things go missing. A lot of good applicants are always missed. You have to apply and know it is a numbers game. The more programs you apply to the greater your chance of getting in.
