OMFS Chances - High CBSE, Low Rank

Hello,

I got an 82 EPC on the CBSE, but bottom third rank and no externships done yet. Honest thoughts about the chance of getting into OMFS, and particularly without a noncat year.

Applied right of dschool with a similar situation a few years back but with a little lower CBSE (75 EPC). Key factor is to apply broadly (to an extent, definitely extern and mostly apply to the programs that have the scope you’re interested in) and see who bites. I applied to 40 programs and got 12 interview invites and attended all of them, ended up matching at my top choice. I think you’ll be okay and won’t have to do a non-cat if you apply broadly and do a couple externships at the places you want to attend etc.

start doing externships asap and get connected with your home OMFS program. Your score is really competitive, rank really doesnt matter that much imo. Unlikely that you will have to do a noncat
