OMFS Externship from Pass/Fail School

So I'll be attending OHSU and I'm really interested in OMFS. OHSU is pass/fail. I have looked at some externships like UNC and know that they require your transcript and I assume your grades have an impact on landing the externship.

Can anyone speak to how my application to externships may be affected by this?

Externships aren't awfully competitive. They're usually first come, first served.

I don't know how clear they're making this, but almost every class has the opportunity to earn commendation letters for particularly high grades.

Yea this was made clear to me when I interviewed, but I'm not educated on how that process works. Or if it's common to include the letters in an externship application. Thanks!

I think most of us here have no idea how that works either. My impression has been that it's something they want indicated on transcripts and that they're trying to figure out with OHSU overall what is and is not possible with transcripts.

Its not a problem at all. To be honest, its a bit early to even be thinking about externships haha. Just find out the places you want to go, when you can go, and let them know. As others have said, its pretty much first come first serve.

Externships will be easy to get into. Your CBSE will be your ticket into residencies.
