The Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport is seeking applicants for one 4-year residency position for the 2024-2025 year. This position is available immediately.
Our program, located in Shreveport, Louisiana, is accredited as both a 4-year and 6-year Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency program. We accept one 4-year and two 6-year categorical residents per year. We operate within a high-volume, comprehensive setting recognized nationally for its breadth of cases. We are an incredibly busy level 1 trauma center and take facial trauma every other month of the year (rotating facial trauma each month with ENT). Our residents manage a diverse array of cases with a level of independence that distinguishes our program. Our trauma, pathology, reconstruction, and head and neck oncology experiences are outstanding. You will gain extensive experience in patient care, facial trauma, dentoalveolar surgery, and exposure to the full scope of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.
In this 4-year track program, you will begin as a categorical intern. This 1st year is spent completing off-service rotations, which include General Surgery, MICU, ED, and Anesthesiology. This is a unique opportunity that we offer here at LSU Shreveport that separates us from other programs. The subsequent 3 years are spent in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. - Must have passed Part 1, National Board of Dental Examiners (NBDE).
- Must be ranked academically at or above 90th percentile of class.
- Must submit undergraduate college transcripts through PASS.
- Must submit dental school transcripts through PASS.
- Must submit a CV/Resume through PASS.
- Must submit original Part 1, National Board of Dental Examiners (NBDE) score through PASS.
- Must submit National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) Comprehensive Basic Science Examination (CBSE) score through PASS.
- Must submit letters of evaluation through PASS.
- Must submit a 2" x 2" photo through PASS.
- Must be a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.
- Permanent residents must show proof of residency.
- Must be a graduate of a U.S. or Canadian dental school.
- Must have a limited permit.
- Must be proficient in the English language.
- Must have foreign transcripts evaluated by the program.
- Must have foreign transcripts submitted to the program.
(These requirements are mandatory for matriculation and must be completed prior to matriculation into the program):
- Must submit an original dental school diploma to the program.
- Must have passed Parts 1 and 2, National Board of Dental Examiners (NBDE).
- Must have earned a D.M.D./D.D.S. degree, or equivalent.
- Must be eligible for state dental license.
