just curious, what would happen to you guys if you failed step 1? in other words, do you get a 2nd chance? 3rd chance? not that i would wish this on any oms residents, just wondering 😉

Depends on where you are. Some places only give you 2 strikes and you are out because your schedule gets so messed up if you fail and have to study again and retake.

Don't worry hun, you'll have plenty of hoops to jump through if you wan't to do ortho or endo

I've heard this stat will become increasingly critical as boards go to Pass/Fail and already is an important component to acceptance into some of the more hard-core OMFS programs...


Thanks for the feedback, I guess I'll just have to enjoy my light class/clinic schedule this summer instead of cramming for another exam. Maybe next near I guess...🙄

Just got my step I score so I figured I'd post suggestions for OMFS people here. Got a 93 on NBDE I, 91 on NBDE II, 28 on MCAT (took it prior to entering dental school), 232 on Step 1.

The key in my opinion is doing practice tests. I did NBME 5,6,7, USMLE World 1,2 under real world simulated conditions. My score went from 192 with the first practice test to 232 with the last practice test I took. Also be sure to check out the 2009 free 150 questions from NBME as well as the 2010 free 143 questions. Wiki test prep has explanations for the 2009 free 150. Also, I did all of Goljan Audio once (great resource), used some wiki test prep, 1000 usmle world questions, and of course the first aid book. Goljan blue margin notes also helped me out - studied them in the last 1-2 days. MedStudentAmnesia from UIC AOA is also a decent last minute resource.

Now on to becoming a full time med student. 😉

👍 Concur with above. MSA is a good, quick last minute review. As for my score -> PASS 😀
