  1. Pre-Dental
Starting school in July, have shadowed a bunch of different specialties, both corp, and pp. Can definitely tell OMFS is my goal so I figured why not start studying for CBSE now? Is this crazy? I will not be attending a P/F school so maybe starting before D1 is stupid. I do have some free time now though and if it gives me an advantage now, I would definitely start.
I also understand and appreciate the difficulty in matching and maybe because of how long and demanding it is, thought why not start now.
I also understand I may just be dumb and naive

Please don’t do this. You will not even know what you’re looking at. Just enjoy yourself now while you have time.

If you really feel like you must do something, getting a head start on anatomy could be helpful (not for cbse, just for dental school).

Haha okay thank you for this - this is exactly what I needed.
I thought of all resources beginning to look at Pathoma and like you said use it as a head start on school as well but if even that is dumb then I will try to forget about it.

IMO it's hard to learn pathology without anatomy and biochem, which usually come first in the curriculum. Pathoma doesn't take that long to get through and I personally don't see a benefit to going through it so early.

Don't underestimate burnout because it's definitely real and will hit you hard if you start doing all of this now.

Again, I would just keep it to anatomy if anything.

Ah okay.
Yeah, I guess I was looking to avoid burnout because I know I'm not a 3-month crammer.
Okay, I guess I will start with some anatomy. Any resources in particular?

Netters is a popular one. Whatever works really

Don’t study at all before dental school. Just enjoy your time before you get busy. I took the CBSE in august after D1, you can kinda be ready to start studying after your first semester depending on your course schedules.

Just out of curiosity, did your program have an integrated med school curriculum, or did you manage study from scratch on top of getting used to the course load? Also, did you end up needing to re-take?

My school had no med school combo curriculum and everyone manages to study from scratch on top of d school classes. This is the rule amongst applicants with very few exceptions. Search the forums and you’ll see plenty of tried and true ways to prepare for the cbse. None of them involve preparing before dental school starts.

To answer your other question, I had to re take the exam. All the people I personally know also re took it. Not every has to, but there is no shame in it.

I know of some people who completed Sketchy micro and pharm anki decks before starting dental school, then completed the organ systems at their own pace. I understand you should enjoy yourself before dental school, but I think by doing this you can make studying for the CBSE a lot more manageable. Averages for CBSE are only going up.
