You shouldn't have to ask this on an internet forum, especially as a future potential OMFS, who are often the best and brightest in the dental field. There are so many posts about what to do, and its really not very difficult to figure out, as its all common sense. Not to mention, there's the accessomfs site that has answers to pretty much all questions. Go study for the CBSE, its offered twice a year, take it at the latest Feb of your D3 year. ADEA PASS opens in mid May of every year, so that's ideally when you would apply. As for being a good applicant, get good grades and rank if you have them, do some research or find some way to get to know your OMFS faculty. You need at least 3 OMFS letters. Also, get to know your clinic faculty (non-OMFS) for your Dean's letter. Do externships at institutes other than your home one. You should have at least 1, but the more the better, so you can show that you know what you're getting yourself into and what OMFS involves. Finish all of this by May of your D3 year, apply, and then you interview and hopefully match by Jan of your D4 year.
