Has anybody heard about UNC chappel hill, University of michigan, and montefiore ORAL SURGERY programs. any input will be appreciated

thanks

I can only comment on U mich since i externed there and it was my first choice (so it'll probably be a bit biased). The program has a very heavy head and neck oncology section, Dr. Helman who is chair and Dr. Ward who is director are both fellows of head and neck fellowships. The there is also great dent alv at the dental school which you rotate through and bascially run the OS clinic for the dental students, supervised by a part time faculty. The facailites at the dental school and the hospital are awesome and they have a great medical school. Some will say that it is too medical school oriented and that may be a plus or minus for you. The faculty are great, the opportunity for learning is outstanding and trauma schedule is not extremly bad. The residents do omfs call on a regular and ent, plastics and omfs share "head and neck call" which is a one week on, three week rotation between the departments. So if you enjoy free flaps, neck dessections and airway call its a great program, there is also a lot orthogn sx done by Dr. Upton and Dr. Betts. The program dosen't have cosmetic training, but has a professor of microsx that trains all surgical residents (ent, plastics etc.) in microvascular sx.
Hope its not too baised, maybe if you ask me in a year my opinion will change, but for now i think its a kick a$$ program.

UNC is one of the best orthognathic programs in the country and is also very well rounded. I heard that Fonseca is now associated with the program, any know if that is true?
