I just checked the mail today to find a nice little piece of mail from Temple Dental.... I was shaking so bad I could barely open the darn thing and after finally getting it open I must have screamed so loud my neighbors called the police!!! I just want to say to everyone that if dentistry is really what you want in life.. Don’t give up... I have worked to obtain this letter for the past 3 years since college doing various work in grad school. I have sacrificed so much that my story is one for the ages. So don't give up if this is something you really want even if people say it is not obtainable... because I just proved my critics wrong and you can too!!!!! Good Luck to the rest of you and I hope all your dreams come true!! Here I come Temple class of 2010!!!!

Congratulations! Now go get some booze 🙂

hey tugs... when did you interview... what are your stats... please let me know
p.s. i am jealous.... CONGRATS

Ok.. I'm a little drunk now after going out for the celebration... but here is the short of it. Graduated in 2001 with a bio degree... terrible GPA for dental school (below 3.0) took some time off to really decide if dental is something I really wanted in my life, during this time I worked as a lab assistant for an oncologist and during the time I met so many people fighting a disease they were probably going to lose too. After getting to know many of them I remember all the things they said about living life to the fullest and not letting your dreams go.. so after a couple years or so I decided to begin the uphill battle of getting my grades up. I attended a year long intensive program at a local philly medical school. It was a thirty credit grad program in Biomedicine which was geared toward kids trying to get into medical and dental school but didnt have the grades or test scores to make it.... I took medical biochem, micro, gross anatomy, histo, pharmacology, neuroanatomy, and medical phys, all in 1 year. Finished with a 3.7 gpa...(anyone going to Temple.. you want to be in my gross anatomy group... I've done it all already.. and it sucks!!!), was told that wasnt enough... went to another grad school and finished the past semester with a 3.8. FINALLY IT WAS ENOUGH TO GET AN INTERVIEW!!!!! Only after numerous nagging phone calls etc... etc... So here I stand after all the fighting... finally getting my shot to live my dream. I know the story is kinda ******ed but I must say it is true. That is why I say that if this is something you really want.. don't give up... during the last few years I have seen more rejection letters than you could ever believe... but it only takes that one letter of acceptance.
DAT: 18/18/19 ( I HATE STANDARDIZED TESTS!!!!)
B.S. Biology
Grad certificate Biomedicine
M.S. Biology (by the end of the summer if I want to finish)
sorry for any typos... beer is really kicking in now

Dreams DO come true!! you have a very inspiring story. CONGRATS!!

Congrats, you worked hard for it. Now continue persevering in dental school, it isn't going to get easier.

SDN should have a database for some of these life stories, it can act as well needed inspiration and motivation for those amongst us.

congrats for finally getting accepted, and great story! something to share with your kids.....i wonder if i will ever have one similar to tell mine. thanx.

Congrats!!!

I was wondering if you could tell me about the program you attended at PCOM. I live around philly and am looking to get into dental school in the fall of 2007. I am doing research now, but I wanted to increase my science gpa to make me a better applicant and to make me more prepared for school. Also, I think it sounds like the year at PCOM could prepare you for any future in the sciences or research. Is this true?

Ok, here are the many questions....When did you apply? How much did it cost? What courses did you take? How competitive was it? Were you able to work or is it full time? Please let me know. I am taking the DAT in a couple weeks. Wish me luck!!!

Congratulations! Best of luck at Temple!

That's awesome. I have almost the exact same story, which made it kind of weird to read yours. I graduated in 2002 with a BS in Biology and a GPA below a 3.0, worked for 6 months as a nurse's aid in a large hospital on the cardiac floor while i was trying to get into Med school. I had lots of fun administering catheters. :scared: Working in the hospital changed my mind, and even though I was accepted to 1 DO school, I decided not to go because I was pursuing an interest in dentistry. I had to enroll in a Graduate Medical Sciences program, which was also geared towards students trying gain acceptance into a professional school or get involved in research, to boost my GPA. I'm also going to finish that this spring/summer. Finally after 3 years of trying, I finally got accepted yesterday to University of Detroit Mercy. Unfortunately I can't celebrate because I have a huge pharm exam tomorrow.
Anyways, I enjoyed your story, because it reminded me of my own, and I'm happy someone else experienced the struggle, frustration, and eventually the exhilaration of success. Congratulations.

Congratulations tug1625 and Beta Blocker - all that hard work paid off!

Hey, CONGRATZ!! I am happy for you man. Good luck at Temple.

Judging from the ratio of acceptance and rejection, for every dream comes true story there is more than one dream comes broken story. Interestingly rarely do people post Damn My Life Sucks Ass!!!
