OMG....I missed my exam today....

Yeah, I missed it. Overslept. 🙁 😡 A 7:30 am class, I havent missed a class all year, and magically today I oversleep. There goes my A, time to say hello to a C. This is math btw, but still, a C? If I make an A on the final, I will retain a B in the class, but DAMN IT. I would have made an A on this test, therefore pretty much solidifying my semester A for the class. I couldnt be more upset right now. This really, really SUCKS. I was so delirious this morning, waking up 30 min after class started, that I immeadiately put my sandals on and took off to class, without realizing I was 1) In PJs, 2)With no pencil or calculator.

And my prof is a pretty tough guy, hes serious, but he has displayed a sense of humor in the past. Should I go beg to see if I could take the test, or get what I deserve and just focus on the final?

I think you should definitely go talk to the prof and tell him everything. He may let you take a different version of the test. Sorry to hear this happened to you - I'm sure it was a sickening feeling.

definitely, definitely talk to your professor. he might take pity on you and let you retake. if he says no, you're still no worse off for at least talking to him about it.

Here's a good story. Overslept for a final in biostats once, waking up 30 minutes into the exam. Got halfway there when I also realized I forgot my calculator. You may be better off missing the exam entirely, because I showed up very late and the prof made me take the exam with only the time remaining. Coincidentally, my roommate overslept for a cell bio final on the same day, but he slept through the whole thing. He talked to the prof and she let him take the exam that evening with no penalty. Doh!

Just talk to your prof. If he knows you've been to class every day he will cut you some slack.

That happened to me once! I had a 9am exam, 😴 and I woke up at 9:25 😱 . I put on some jeans and sweatshirt over my pajamas, ran like I never thought I could to the science building, and got there at like 9:40am (10minutes before the time was up) . My professor just looked at me and asked what happened, so I told her I had overslept. She was actually pretty nice, didn't ask anything else and let me take it with her 1 o'clock class. I got to keep my A in the class! I was soooo thankful I could have hugged her!

Due to a crazy cold front in DFW one night, I was forced to stay in NC overnight after my Duke interview because all flights via DFW were cancelled. I flew out at 6 am Eastern the next day, getting in to LAX at 11:45 for a 12:30 parasitology exam and had to contend with getting a shuttle in midday 405 traffic to get to my exam. I walked in with my luggage and looking like hell 15 minutes late. That exam is 1/2 my grade & I have the final next week. BOO.

I think I did alright - I beat the avg. by a good chunk anyway, which is always encouraging.

I think it's hilarious when PJ's voice modulation goes crazy and she gets all loud all of a sudden. 😀 And g/l to you too!

It's somewhat disingenuous, but you can go to University Health Services, talk to a doc/nurse, say your stomach is not feeling well (diarrhea, vomiting, etc.)... then say you need a note for work, just casually and incidentally. Due to HIPAA, I don't think they're allowed to give notes that say exactly what's wrong, just that you were there. You can take this note to your prof and tell him what happened...

This is only to be used in the most urgent / direst of circumstances, as you'll only get one shot at it.

as for resolving your problem...go beg, plead, kiss some a$$, and see if you can't work out a deal with your professor. a make-up exam is unlikely. try something along the lines of: if you ace the final, that becomes your final grade. good luck 👍

i second this, unless you already know that your prof has a tendency to be very nice and understanding. whatever you do.... DON'T do both (ie. beg for mercy and then show up with a doctor's note). that'd be bad.

Ask your professor if he can make your final count for a greater % of your grade and just void this one test. This is the fairest way in my opinion assuming the final is cumulative and not designed to be easier than the regular exams.

YES! I emailed my prof, here is what I said,

Mr. Thompson,

I am a student in your 7:30am Math 1023 class. Unfortunately, the timing of this situation doesn't allow me to see you personally during your office hours, therefore I have composed this email. I missed Exam 6 this morning. I overslept inadvertently, and, in fact, it has been the only class I have missed during the semester. Therefore I am requesting an opportunity to retake or makeup the exam. I am fully aware of your drop exam policy, and realize it is clearly stated in the syllabus that there will be no makeups. However, I still would have regretted not contacting you about a makeup. I do not expect to be shown any sympathy regarding the makeup, as the blame falls entirely on my shoulders. However, as I previously stated, I would have been more upset with myself if I didn't at least contact you about a slight possibility of a makeup. Thanks for your time.

A few weeks ago, I had a paper due in my 11am class and an exam in my 12:30 class. I studied until 4:30am. 😱 I woke up without my alarm going off, feeling quite refreshed.....which was bad. It was 12:59! My roommate quickly drove me to class, right outside the building, and I raced in to take the exam. Fortunately, the prof showed the slides again for me at the end, and I got a passable grade.
