This is a public service thread

So, in light of recent events, the forum has seen quite a bit of threads with similar titles. "Am I too late?"
Are you too late? This thread will help you answer that question without making a new thread!

After researching this over the internet, asking a few adcom members, asking applicants from last year, I've compiled the following time frame for the application. Remember, these are mere estimates, and also, this is just for the Primary Application

Month of June-If you've sent your application in early this month (or later this month), you're damn early. The real advantage of sending it in this time frame is that AMCAS is kinda empty, since applications are only trickling in. As a result, you get verified fairly quickly, if everything else is good and checks out.

1st week of July to 3rd- Things are picking up a bit at AMCAS, but you're in good shape. You're still in the early window, however you may have to wait a bit longer to get yourself verified compared to those who applied early June. You will still get your secondaries at a reasonable time.

3rd Week of July to Mid August-Did you notice the dramatic color change from green to yellow? This is the neutral color. The color in between stuff. As you can guess, you're probably neither early nor late. This is the time when most people (and their grand moms) normally send their applications, anyways.

Mid August to End of September- DUN DUN DUN!!!😱 Another dramatic change in color (Your eyes do not deceive you). The longer you wait, the more you're gonna be late. Applying around this time will really hurt your chances if you're an average or borderline applicant and you're applying to schools with rolling admissions.

After September-:scared:(The color. Notice the color. Comment on it too)

(Just try not to be here even if you're the best applicant. Its not worth the hassle and tension if you can get your primary out early on.)

[Color change to a less dramatic color to indicate a different flow of thought]

Keep in mind that if you apply in the very first category and sit on your ass for secondaries until October, you've practically destroyed your advantage. Make sure you get your primary out early and your secondaries out by, as some people recommend, within one week of receiving it.

Also, I quote an expert:
You can still be early if you really work hard to turn around your secondaries as soon as they are received. Applications (including secondaries) that are in hand by August 1 are all in the same pile.

idk if that's JUST for LizzyM's school or all schools, but just live by this mantra: "The earlier the better." Except for when it comes to dieing, becoming a parent, or getting herpes.

Sorry, but whats your point???

The early we apply, the better it is and more quickly the Primaries get verified. Everybody knows it. 🙄

And everybody posting "Am I too late" are jks, because they know the answer and are just panicking.

Anyways, Good Job

Or... well, you know...

You should change the yellow to a darker shade. Otherwise, I hope it deters a few threads every month. Thanks!

Well, of course the earlier your send out your application the better. But "early" is a gray area. What's defined as early and what is not? Is there going to be a difference in sending the application in the first week of June vs the third week of June? How about the second week of July vs the first week of August?
I just compiled what I had learned to give people an idea of the time frame for applications.

Thank you for not buying into the SDN sensationalism about submitting June 1 or killing your chances everywhere.

I'd be really really interested in seeing graphs of certain indicators (AMCAS submit date, average time to complete secondaries, number of schools applied to, any measure of extracurricular quality and quantity) of SDN vs. the general population of medical school applicants. I do not think SDN is representative of all applicants in any respect. I'd guess that if you pick any issue, for example when you submit AMCAS, if you're average or a little bit behind compared to the majority of people on SDN, you are still in very good shape compared to the broader population of all applicants.

Cool, so you narrowed it down to give a more accurate picture, 👍 👍 👍
